Don't you think that your words insult many of PFFs board members and moders around the world ? You don't even know anything about what "to mod" actualy means. Or was it just ironic? moders don't hack or crack a game. There is a big difference between people ilegaly cracking games (to make them playable from HD or copy), hackers (guys who find ways round security systems in networks, programms etc.) and moders who just change things that were meant to be changed by the programmers. Most game companys like petroglyph support moding communitys for their games, because mods help keeping a game alive. Moders work hard to give free game content to you that perhaps just wasn't in the game because of balancing issues or create totaly new units, maps, campaigns etc.

Re: Are You Still Planning on Buying Game After Demo/Mods

Didn't say that these 15% read PFF or much or less related boards I just think that perhaps 15% might get their information through lucas/star wars fan boards and/or are related to star wars communitys. As for the other 85% you will have to obtain a neutral position towards the game. They might not have played Rebellion or Battlegrounds, perhaps they didn't even see all SW Movies and most of them never have read a Star Wars related Book. I think it would be pointless to try to convince an average "non star wars fan boy" gamer that a game like Battlegrounds, Force Commander or Rebellion has some content that is possibly better than comparable game content in EaW. What I want to say with this : EaW is a great game with lots of good ideas, a exciting gameplay and graphics that are mostly much above average. But Petroglyph never tried to make the ultimate SW Fan Game. You can't make money with such an idea in the game industry because game development is to expensive to sell a well designed game just to a small group of hardcore fans. Additionaly there are so many different views of what is canon or non canon and even more opinions on "what is cool" in the SW universe (one likes darth maul, another one hates him. one thinks the Nebulon-G is a great ship, another one thinks its just non canon crap) that you won't ever manage to satisfy them all. Edit: keep spelling and gramma for yourself just fucking tired ATM -

Keep in mind that perhaps only 15% of the overall buyers of the game use star wars or petroglyph related forums at all... and I think many of the other 85% didn't play rebellion or aren't star wars fan boys. Everyone knows that the reaction of fanatic fans (no offense, I'm one of these fans myself) might differ from the common opinion about a game/movie/book... -

I've played rebellion thousands of times and still have it on my HD. But in all this time I never enjoyed the space battles and there are many things I hated about this game. It just was the only "playable" Star Wars strategy Game. I have to admit, yes, I enjoyed it for a long time, but it can't be compared to EaW... EaW is a state of the art game while rebellion was outdatet even when it was released. Rebellion was a game for the hardcore fan whereas EaW is going to become a overall-blockbuster. Btw:Rebellion never got good reviews from any Games magazine I know/knew -
I already ordered the EaW Collectors Edition last month when they anounced it. The "normal" EaW version isn't avaible for preordering here in germany, you can only buy it in the stores. But now they come up with a "deluxe collectors edition" ? Or is IGNs "deluxe collectors edition" the "collectors edition" and they just mixed things up ? Because the things that should be in the deluxe edition already are mentioned to be in the normal collectors edition.
-
Just think about one fact : We don't know what difference there is between skirmish and campaign buildings. Skirmish buildings are suposed to produce units. So if you modded them in a way that lets the game think these are the skirmish versions you are indeed able to build ships while in combat.
-
Uhm... whats up with the guys at lucas ? If this news is true i'm very disappointet by there marketing section. What the hell is a "deluxe collectors edition" ? Do I have to change my order at amazon just because they think it would be good for their wallets if they put out another collectors edition with even more maps and stuff ? I just hate it when they try to sell even more expensive versions of a game just because if you don't buy these you would miss some of the games content (like the 5 other maps). This just isn't fair, they should have told us this before everyone ordered the "collectors edition". But IMO they just changed their minds when they realized that this game would become a top seller...

If you manage to lure a fleet to one of your planets and have some heavy planetary defenses you wouldn't even need an interdictor to prevent their retreat. So you could have this valueable ship at another place of the galaxy.

Would the galactic map be better off turn based?
Samheyn replied to tFighterPilot's topic in EAW General Discussion
Realtime IMO it is much more challenging if you could be attacked every moment and not only at the end or the start of a turn. -
I'm playing the tutorials and right now I am at the last of the very very good tutorial missions. Can't remember that i've seen such a lovely tutorial before. It isn't boring but explains everything you need to know while playing around with all the games options. Ok.. finishing the mission and then i'll go for the conquest mode. By the way : Frank's work on the music is amazing. So many great tunes from the original movies arranged in a wonderfull way... and there is something very good to say about the game : 100 % star wars atmosphere. even without some of the most famous ships

Re: EAW Demo - Download Links Topic
Samheyn replied to Cain's topic in EAW/FOC Questions from New Members
I wouldn't be suprised if they granted the right to share the demo to only a few major sites... at least for the first hours and days -
Unless you've got a 800MB CDR
-
depends on the connection you've got. With a 256kbit DSL connection 750 MB are very much and the download my last several hours. But if you got a good cable modem with a 5mbit connection it might be a little more than 15 minutes. (personaly I use a 6mbit cable modem) but it all depends on the servers.. I think in the first hours after the demos release all main download servers and mirrors will be too busy to get a good connection speed...

looks great, but where to order it ? amazon.de doesn't have it listed yet...

It isn't only a problem of RTS games. I think there is no SW or ST game that used exact sizes. Even the Combat Simulator ones like ST Bitch... uhm sorry Bridge Commander or the X-Wing Series never used exact sizes. I remember Nebulon-Bs beeing almost half the size of an ISD and Star Bases only 2 or 3 Times bigger than an Sovereign Class Vessel. By the way... wouldn't it be great to do another SW vs. ST mod ? (veterans might remember the days of Star Trek Armada : STvsSW mod 1 and 2 by P90) EDIT: Just think of the battle where a whole fleet of federation ships attacked 1 single cube. Even the biggest ships looked like flees. But one thing should be mentioned : There are still different types of Cubes...

Thank you sooo much delphi! I think most of the people here are still very excited and can't wait getting their hands on this precious game. IMO you guys at petroglyph do an outstanding job
-
No, this is not true I've got this magazine right here by my side (I'm german) : German original version : "Die Nebulon-B Fregatte verliert viel von ihrem Schrecken, wenn der Antrieb in die Luft fliegt, mit einem zertrümmerten Hangar wartet der Super-Sternenzerstörer vergeblich auf die Tie-Fighter Verstärkung" "Super" in german has exactly the same meaning as in the english language 'cause its actualy a latin word and is meant to be a foreign word in both languages. Super Star Destroyer = Super-Sternzerstörer. Trust me, I was as suprised as you are now when I read this, it must be an error. Perhaps the writer of this article, Heiko Klinge doesn't know the difference between an Imperial Star Destroyer and an Executor-Class Star Destroyer.

IMO there is nothing to say against the broadside-cruisers design or the way it could be used in the game. But you (the majority in this case) are right to say that it destroys the original star wars flair in this game. I would be happy if they included this ship beside others like the venator, the carrack, the dreadnought, the lancer etc. Why didn't they take one of these and use it the same way the broadside is meant to be used now? This wont get into my head. Also the Strike Cruiser would have been much more fitting, even if it is a post EPIV design. To make one thing clear once again : The broadside is neither ugly nor would its design be useless.. but it doesn't support the star wars atmosphere...
-
Didn't petroglyph say that retreating your forces is a major part of the games tactics ? So IMO the last possibility you mention seems to be the most fitting. But as you said... it's not more than speculation...

Hayatus due to lack of useful info and quality discussions.
Samheyn replied to Teradyn_pff's topic in The Bar
Even on the PC BF2 is a very funny game.. and I don't think it is much worse compared to games like Battlefield 2.. you have to keep in mind that it's always harder to do a good job on graphics for a sci-fi or fantasy game than just doing a semi-realistic game based on modern combat. And concerning the games dynamics: Yes, there are some major flaws... some of the missions are rather frustrating because of the not-so-well balanced weaponry. But in the end it is still a lot of fun and worth playing -
Yeah I knew about these facts.. but as you said, it doesn't matter.. wait... uhm.. but if I think about it.. isn't it much better to die without any knowledge of the fact that something very bad has happened than in an imperial interrogation cell ? ... an interesting question I think...

moons: I think there will be moons... but you will have them just as a background near the planet you are attacking... as it is no real 3D enviroment a 3D moon wouldn't give you any tactical advantages at all. gravit wells: Only thing natural gravity wells in star wars do is preventing ships from reaching light speed.. and wouldn't be able to fight a battle near a black hole or something similar comets and meteores: As far as I know meteors are actualy comets that hit a planet But the chance that one of your vessels will ever be hit by a comet is very very low... perhaps it's more likely that you win all the jackpots in las vegas in one night than beeing hit by a big comet while in space. (ok.. one thing to mention : I only talk about comets with a size greater than a fighter ) radiation busts: would affect all ships taking part in the battle... would only shorten the battles because of failing shields or radiated crew
-
You should be thankfull that they even tell you there is going to be a demo... think about other publishers out there.. some of them wouldn't even inform their community if the game was released early... thats a fact (just take a look at EA...)

The discovery of the Katana Fleet is a post-EPIV event. Timeline goes from the end of EPIII to the end of EPIV... so there is no room for a "katana-discovery-event" or something similar because the Katana Fleet recently disappeared in that time. @vader89 Old doesn't always mean that these ships aren't worth using them. The Dreadnoughts have some design flaws ( weak power generators, massive need for crew ) but even if a dreadnought might not be able to go head-on-head with a mon cal or even a star destroyer it might be able to crush a nebulon-b or some other frigate-class vessels

There is no evidence that the MPTL-2a won't have a counterpart on the imperial side. So far we haven't got any unit lists or sort of this. So we shouldn't guess around what units might be overpowered.. we can't even tell which units will actually be in the game and remember that even petro is still balancing around + the trailer is obviously obsolete
