Thanks, dude!

Actually, I always felt that's exactly when the game started (well, okay, maybe like the next day or something). Plans, eh? Intriguing... I've been working on my own remapping. It's all on paper so far, but I've got about 3/4 of the sectors and systems worked out. I was going to wait until I had the chance to get into RebEd to see what I could do on my own (also still testing my other changes in game), but since you updated... I wanted to ask if you could possibly please post a (fairly) detailed explanation of the steps you are using to plot new locations for systems, after the sectors have been relocated. I've worked with RebEd a lot and have general skills, but there's a lot about computers and Windows that I just don't know. Like how to do a screen capture. I'm basically a noob who happens to be pretty tenacious and obsessive, otherwise I'd have given up even trying to mod anything a long time ago. Glad to hear that you decided to go ahead and do encyclopedeia entries and all that. I guess it just pleases me to know that there are a few out there just as obsessed as I am. Great work, and thanks for all the help Tex.

Toldja Budious had the good stuff. That's it, I'm gettin' a copy of "This Honky's Nuts and lighting candles to it any time I have a problem with Windows.
-
Meh. I don't spend a lot of time surfing Youtube, but the local rock station talks about weird things in the morning. That's the only reason I knew anything about it.
-
I actually heard it played on the radio first. Sadly, I now have the visual to go long with the audio. Off topic: did I really type glaxay in that last post?! I must be slipping in my old age!
-
Thought I'd try one more time to see if anyone has used this model successfully. I loaded it into the .dll, unless its texture conflicts with something I don't know about, then that's not it. It plays normally in tactical battles, then the game crashes after. Through process of elimination I've found it's definitely THIS model that's the issue. Has anyone gotten it to work?
-
This is what I mean when I say that whiny Anakin is totally believable. Seriously, imagine THIS guy with all the power of the dark side and Ani's midichlorian count... He would've made Vader seem like a model of stoic restraint. The whole glaxay would've been sobbing right along with him.
-
Not much to add, but apart from removing EVERYTHING, doing a full reinstall of Rebellion (like Tex said), starting a brand new game (no previous saves) after making any changes in RebEd...I dunno. Budious seems to be something of a Windows deity, maybe he could help with anything Vista-specific. Resource Hacker would do it, but it would take forever to change out more than a few things. Whatever you try, it's always a good idea to document it all so that you can be as detailed as possible when troubleshooting with someone else's help over the forums. (I know it's a huge pain, but though it's inefficient the folks here know as much about this as anybody). Don't give up. I've come up against some nasty obstacles while trying to mod this game, but so far I've eventually gotten around them all, with a little help.

Hey, Shushoni, I'm glad that helped. Say, you didn't happen to use the YT-3000 model, did you? I'm having trouble with it and I don't know if the model's just broken or if I've done something wrong. Thanks.
-
Thought I'd update this before starting a new thread. After further testing I've definitely narrowed it down to the YT-3000 model. Has anyone at all used this model in game successfully? Does Mask have any knowledge of a problem with the model? It's either something with th model itself, or there's a very slight chance I missed some texture issue when importing - but it would be a conflict with one of a handful of Imperial models. I'm still in the middle of testing my own TC as a whole, so I don't want to back out to dig into Resource Hacker just yet, but if anyone has managed to get this model to work, I'd love to know about it. Thanks, and sorry for the double-post.

I liked seeing Yoda and Palpatine fight in the prequels. Well, Yoda anyway. I didn't like Palpatine's fighting style much. Yoda's made perfect sense to me. The thing I hated in AOTC, like I said before, was how Dooku and Yoda trade force powers and THEN fight with sabers. In the OT Palpatine only ever had the opportunity to fight at Endor, and he chose to let Vader and Luke do the slugging. No matter what happened, Palpy would win. Luke kills Vader and turns, becoming the new apprentice. Vader kills Luke and earns the right to stay. Vader turns Luke, THEN Palpy has Luke kill Vader or something equally evil. The only thing he didn't expect was for Luke to turn VADER... At any rate, not fighting was totally in character for him. His fight with Mace was all staged to turn Anakin in the first place... As for Yoda in the OT, we have to assume that he trained Luke with the saber on Dagobah. Why we don't see it is obvious: because he's a puppet. I for one ALWAYS thought Yoda was the ultimate badass. It goes back to that archetype of the unlikely looking old master who secretly is capable of amazing skill. I don't think Yoda would let old age or depression get him down, he just had a different focus in the OT. He knew his time as a hero was done and his role at that point was to train the next in line to take down the Emperor and to pass on the Jedi way. I'm betting he could still hand out the beat-downs, it just wasn't what the Force had in store for him anymore.

Uh, I don't know how to link to it, but check in the Modelling forum (i think it's stickied) for the VSD texture problem. It seems to get a lot of people. Either way, it's most likely something to do with the way you imported the models. Hope that helps.

Few questions about Reloaded and gameplay generally
RenegadeMax replied to Faello's topic in Rebellion Reloaded
Yah, RebEd's good for making the game easier for the AI - by reducing maintenance cost for the units on the AI's side it makes it easier for them to build more cheaper faster. Reloaded was obviously designed to be balanced for two players, so playing it SP it's gonna be pretty easy. There's now way to make the AI make better decisions, sadly. If you want to try tweaking the game with RebEd, be warned: it takes a lot of work to put together a new set of numbers that's playable. As flawed as the original game is, I gotta give the developers props for balancing it remarkably well. I haven't tried any of the other total conversions in the downloads section, but I gather that some of them present a decent challenge, so you might try there. -
Just wondering if anyone has encountered any inherent problems with any of the models from the download section. I know about the problem with using the same texture for two different models and was very careful about that when I imported. Specifically I'm wondering about the YT-3000 model; has anyone else used it and had it work ok? I'm running on an old Celeron machine with Windows 98. Maybe I'm just asking too much of the hardware or software? I've been playing for about 1700 days and have had a couple of crashes, always following a tactical encounter, but so far was able to reload from a save and run the battle again and it worked ok. This time there's a lot of ships (about 30 per side) including a couple of models I haven't tested yet (the first time those particular models have been in battle). I still have some troubleshooting to try, but I wondered if anybody had any ideas? Thanks.

Problem with that is... where do you think they get their supply from? I'm no lawyer, but I think that thinkgeek and the two or three other Han Shot First desgins out there are not officially liscensed. Maybe the phrase is just cryptic enough to be safe? I could be wrong. As for the more general discussion, those of us who are old enough can remember seeing Star Wars at a time when nobody knew who Han Solo was. We didn't know what a Jedi was, where Vader came from, nothin'. Try watching the un(re)edited cut (where Han shoots first and last) with new eyes. Pretend this is the first time you've ever seen or herad of this guy. We meet a pilot who's supercool and tough and has been around. Our heroes hire him after he extorts extra cash from them because they're desperate. His co-pilot is this huge, scary gorilla-dog. As soon as the heroes leave, they're excited because all this money is gonna save their skins. Next thing we know, some buggy alien dude with a gun is backing him into the booth and talking tough, threatening him over some guy named Jabba's money. Then Solo shoots him. And tosses the bartender some coins on the way out, quipping about being sorry for the mess. That's HARDCORE. See, we didn't know who this Han guy was. It wasn't at all clear until the very end of the movie that he was even a good guy, and even then there was money involved. I was five when Star Wars came out. For little kids at that time there weren't many anti-heroes out there. Today there's Wolverine, Jack Sparrow, that mutant turtle with the sai, the purple teletubby, all kinds of dangerous, bad-ass good guys. I can remember thinking "whoa, who IS this guy?" when I first saw that scene. He was a smuggler, a rogue, a scoundrel, a dangerous dude. And he was awesome. When Lucas changed it, it just took the edge out of the scene and out of Han's character. The mystery and danger were gone. And it didn't need to be changed, as others have pointed out, it was clearly self-defense. Call the dvd release of the ORIGINAL Original Trilogy money grubbing if you want, I take THAT as Lucas' acknowledgement of the demand for the old movies as they were. I'm just glad the classic cuts are still available for those of us that care. Heh, done ranting now. Gotta go order a replcement shirt as my first one has been worn and washed too many times.
-
I'm pretty sure that the version of the Han Shot First shirt Lucas has on is the one they're now selling on StarWars.com. Now, Lucas probably thought it was just a cute little joke that Ford might appreciate, or maybe they've even had private conversation about it. But as with all things Lucas, why just do something because it's cool when you can do something AND promote it in such a way as to make MO MONEY?! I hope that Lucas knows how lame his revision was and has had a change of heart...but whatever. P.S.: buy your Han Shot First shirts somewhere else like thinkgeek.com. Haven't we all given Lucas enough of our money? (at least until the next wave of action figures hits stores?, or the Force Unleashed comes out?)

Hey, Ive got no problem with well-written, well-acted romance. ESB is one of the most romantic movies EVER! Seriously, for me it's a close call between Empire and Casablanca, but Casablanca doesn't have the Falcon in it... And I actually liked the scenes where Yoda actually fought. I don't know that Dooku would have lasted ten seconds against him, but oh well. It was something that was, rightly, not even brought up in the OT, but you always wondered...I even liked the silly draamatic buildup to the fight. but the back and forth force attacks, followed by a sword fight, followed by a distraction, followed by Dooku escaping, it just all felt too staged. Then again (I JUST thought of this), given that Dooku is all formal old-school a formal duel might make sense. Do you suppose this could just be a Jedi tradition like take ten steps, turn and shoot? Maybe there's an unspoken agreement to keep the fight civilized? Still, Yoda should have whupped Dooku's ass... The fighting itself was cool, but then I like Kung Fu flicks, too. As for never using the force to attack, I think that's just one of those things a Master tells a student to help keep things simple. After all, Yoda and Obi-wan are basically grooming Luke to take down Vader and the Emperor. Not that it's a load of crap, just that with age and experience and wisdom comes the ability to decide for yourself when to use force properly. Early in your training, especially with the Dark Side such a temptation, it's good to have a black and white view of things.

You know, I could live with Jar Jar and little Ani (even most of his horrible acting) and Dexter and all that. I even accept the Ewoks and the battle on Endor (it would have been so much cooler with Wookiees). Some things drive me nuts, though. 1. Greedo shooting first. 2. Dark Empire. If the Emperor is resurrected then HOW exactly did Anakin bring balance? It makes the end of Jedi feel so weak. 3. The cheesy-ass romance scene in the meadow in AOTC. I actually felt ill in the theater. 4. Actually, most of AOTC bothered me. Definitely the weakest of the prequels IMO. Padme falls out of a gunship, lies there injured, then when the clones run up she just sort of grunts and jogs away. And Obi-wan is completely incapacitated by a little force lightning and a couple of minor lightsaber cuts? ("it's just a flesh wound!"). Yoda and Dooku's magic fight ("I see your Schwartz is as big as mine"). Real masters would have gone in with sabers AND force powers at once. Sifo-Dyas? WhoTF? 5. Vader's Frankenstein scene in ROTS. Another moment when I had to cover my face in embarassment. I mean, Lucas actually knew how to make movies once. Couldn't he SEE how stupid that looked? 6. Midichlorians. 7. Anakin building C-3PO. 8. Lucas' attention to themes over story. Sure, he was trying to make a modern myth, but the dudes that wrote the ACTUAL myths were storytellers first. The myth should fit into the story, not the other way around. Things I liked: Whiny Anakin. Kevin Smith NAILED it in that Legacy of Star Wars History Channel thing. That's EXACTLY the kind of kid who would end up wanting to rule the Galaxy. Also, after the third or so viewing I really started to LIKE Ep. 1. Sure, it's mostly a kid's movie. But it was a good, exciting kid's movie, and behind it all is Palpatine with his evil plan. The cheesy celebration at the end (the Gungans get a SHINY?) is a farce. The Good Guys didn't win, Palpatine did. Now that's storytelling. Also loved every frame of Empire, anything with the Falcon in it, Darth Maul, the final fight scene with Luke and Vader, Qui-Gon, the music, puppet Yoda, the Rebel fleet, that first magical shot in Episdoe IV...

Arrrrgh!! I just stopped by the randomsabers site and read that they are taking no new orders for at least two years, possibly no new customer designs to be done ever! I feel like crying... I've had my personal saber design ready to go for a year, but have put off ordering it for monetary reasons, even though their stunt hilts are (were) really quite reasonable. I figured, as long as I'm gonna shell out for my own real saber, just the way I want it, I might as well go all the way and get an LED, probably figure out how to fit sound compnents in, etc. Now I may never get a chance to have MY hilt made... Anybody know of anywhere else you can get someone to build a custom saber of your own design? Anybody have experience actually lathing and building their own saber? Maybe someone else will step in and fill the void left by the best saber builder out there... sigh... I'm really kinda bummed now.

So how much of this was done in RebEd? I know you had to use ResHack for the names (& descriptions, if you wanted to), but, though I haven't messed with it yet, I was under the impression that you could move everything around, switch planet images, etc. all in RebEd. I'm still playtesting my own conversion, mostly looking at unit stats, etc. but I'm interested in reconfiguring the galaxy as well. I've actually started compiling some info from the various maps available, plus info from Wookieepedeia. I'm not trying for perfect canonosity, but I do want to have all the "big" systems in the right places, with others being relatively in the ball park, plus a few of my own systems thrown in. Obviously, laying it all out takes a lot of time. Then to actually go in and deal with 20 sectors, 200 systems... sigh. I guess I'm wondering just how complicated the whole process gets. Could you maybe post a brief and general outline of your process? Again, kudos for the impressive effort. It looks great.

WOW, Tex, Beautiful job. I've been toying with the idea of doing this myself. It's a huge undertaking. Any thoughts on posting this as a .reb file? Also, I was wondering how many of the worlds are canon? I recognized most of them, but a few were new to me. Admittedly, I'm not thoroughly up on all EU sources; I haven't read most of the comics and don't play the RPG. Love the Unknown Regions! Most of the references I get, but how about a guide to these new worlds? (I'm not familiar with Othana(?) and a couple of others.) Great work, dude!

Yah, schools vary. A LOT. It is definitely worth the effort to shop around, ask to watch some classes, and ask lots of questions about pricing or contracts. It all comes down to what you want to do with it. I love learning all the forms (kata), and fitness is definitely part of it. I also wanted to learn the practical application of all those cool moves. I'm not interested in competitions or trophies, but I do like to spar for practice. Luckily where I train is a perfect fit for all of that. In the end, the chances are very slim that I'll ever have to use ANY of my training for actual self-defense, let alone the vast majority of the more exotic material (drunken boxing, animal styles). On the street, your basic groin kick, side-thrust to the knee, etc. is all you'd probably ever need. Still, it's nice to know that you're prepared! In the meatime, I get to have fun with new material and play with (as my wife puts it) "spinning implements of death"!
-
Sorry for the double-post, and sorry too Tex! I just went to check the mechanics thread again and of course there you were! I really should check things like that before asking silly questions... So did you ever get anywhere with the Golan behavior thing?
-
Just bumping a worthy thread. Anyone have anything new?
