  1. sadly I dont own the manual I bought the game for $12 off a friend who, "Didn't really like it," the shmuck, and he had lost it long before that. That was back in 2003 (last comer, I know ) but anyway, thanks for the info. More and more everyday
  2. huzzah! I am remembered okay, so Commanders and Admirals, thanky
  3. hello, quick question For a fleet conducting an orbital bombardment (not assault, sorry for the OT) you're saying they use the bonus of a General and not an Admiral? Hmm
  4. Bulks, ugh! What are they good for? Absolutely nothing! Sorry, had to
  5. Incite Uprising is one of my favorite tactics. It works very well for Empire given the abundance of high leadership characters I too was confused at its use beforehand thinking it actually caused the enemy system to Uprise instead of simply lowering popular support for the enemy on their own system. I feel it works best to see it as Diplomacizing (did I make that word up?) an enemy planet, plain and simple
  6. that's my gripe with any MMO while I understand the need for monthly fees, it just doesnt fit my gaming style where I'll play a game, get bored or stuck so I'll load up Dark Forces II or Rebellion or Uncharted Waters for my SNES or Diablo II single player (ashamed) lol it requires alot of time (I was thinking of getting WoW) that I don't have
  7. hmm, never noticed that as Empire you can leave a squadron undeployed by not giving them orders I always thought they launched no matter what
  8. wow, I'm 19 now, and I first got that game when I was (thinking) like 10 maybe anyone still play? What side? I was thinking of picking it up again as the Empire but I was never really good at it. Especially getting the hang of the thrust (full power, least maneuverability/33% power full agility) what were your settings? How'd you control your wingmates and how the heck could you automagically select your Leader's target instead of setting him to a hotkey, and then scroll through all targets to find his? My curiosity is piqued, lol (again)
  9. this was on the first page so I don't consider spam-bumping ayway, I use WASD with 1-4 being my neutral force powers. I think 1 was Pull, 2 Sight, 3 Speed, 4 Jump. I used Q & E to change the other powers (Throw was the best, lol)
  10. well if you're playing against the comp (I dont normally play online, yet lol) then the enemy fighters run straight for your bombers, I'm almost certain so leaving them at the back isn't really useful I wish I could play right now to try out the "carracks early game, fighters later" thing though, my friggin new comp that I bought parts for and assembled doesn't work and it makes me wanna cry
  11. I'm not so sure anyone's going to reply to this. Perhaps if you standoff with Imperial capitals they will keep their nose to the target (bonus for their bow firing arc) and Surround would give you either broadside for use with rebel capitals as far as fighter surround/stanbdoff, I don't know
  12. lol, long live the Empire I say. However, I don't like this debating on whether the EU is correct or not, because as someone stated earlier, without the EU we would have very little. Imagine a Star Wars with no books, games, comics, merchandise, but only movies. You would have no answers to any questions that weren't specifically answered in dialogue during the movies. Because of this, you have to take liberties, and that has become the EU, which in part is our only source for all the little things that truly flesh out that galaxy far, far away On Pilots and Clones: You think anyone would turn down a volunteer? Ofcourse there were good ol' fashioned humans in the all walks of the Imperial military. Beside that point, I read in an interview that clone stock had sometimes gotten worse rather than better. Politcal deals are made for so-and-so's DNA to be made into clones for the Imperial military for this much money/influence/power, etc hence the differing voices and all around behavior of stormtroopers in the OT. And ofcourse one has to consider where all the regular humans that comprise the officers and pit crews and etc that are seen. There is also and Imperial Academy that puts out tons of volunteers from all kinds of planets from Corellia (Han) to Tatooine (Biggs and probably Luke, if only...) on Xenophobia and the Empire: Exactly, whatever the Emperor wants, he better sure as hell get. We cannot answer this question. We only have what the EU tells us. In the movies we see Palpatine (pre-Emperor) with Alien cohorts. Perhaps he's only using them for political gain and nothing more. The movie does not overtly make the point so we cannot imply anything without help of the EU. Having said that, one can only assume that the Empire was xenophobic because there's nothing stating otherwise in the movies, which take precedence over anything after. on Fighters: It's simply a design philosophy whether or not to use fighters more like the TIE or the X-Wing. The Empire's philosophy was one based on power, cost efficiency, and the ideal that, "You are expendable." In that sense, it fits them perfectly. About Wedge killing hundreds by himself: It's completely plausible if you figure there are billions of people in the New Republic. Thousands of them are pilots. Wedge has assembled himself and only 11 others as the best fighters in all the New Republic. as an aside: I wonder how the Empire would have fared against the Vong. They'd be losing scores of fighters, what with no shields and all. But then again, even the Imperial Remnant has established a new philosophy of fighter design by flying the Chiss clawcraft (seemingly, somehow) and SoroSuub Preybirds anyway, my train of thought derailed so more laters
  13. *sigh* piracy sucks I admit, the first time I saw it one of of my coworkers had it ripped to a DVD and we watched it on a laptop. I didn't feel so bad though since I already had advanced tickets for a showing that same evening (opening day!) in my wallet, but I was amazed how little respect it got from every passer-by who wanted a copy rather than tickets to see it in theatre ohwell
  14. i know I'd be eternally grateful for something like this I bought the game off of someone a year ago for $12. He hadn't played it in almost a year himself and definetly lost the manual. I had to scour tons of FAQs and walkthroughs (and especially this place, which I'm still doing) to learn to play
  15. Palpatine states in 2 different instances that: 1) His own mentor taught him all things about the Force 2) Darth Plaegius (sp) taught his apprentice everything he knew however, Palpatine says that the tale of Darth Plaegius is an old sith tale, and does not explicitly state that his master was the death-cheating Darth
  16. lol, I'm pretty sure I did. It was when I first got the game like a year ago I just remember the death star rotating and *KABLAMMO* lol, it was the sweetest thing
  17. I was playing a game as the Galactic Empire (ofcourse) and I found the Rebel base pretty early, maybe around 400-500 I sent a fleet over, beat the crap out of it, assaulted, bombarded, spit on it even. It was a headquarters battle and the battle didn't end. I searched the outlying secters with Assault Transports one by one for what seemed an eternity and I couldn't freagin find it did I somehow defeat the rebel base but caused a glitch where it was still technically alive, but not there ingame so to speak? Or did they just hide it somewhere really well? Anyway some favorite game moments: - When I assassinate Chewbacca - When I assassinate 3/4's of the Rebel personnel roster, infact - When I shoehorn, or incite uprising and eventually neutrality on 3-5 Rebel planets each game. More fun and effective than assaulting sometimes - When I tried to assassinate a character, failed but injured him, tried to abduct him and he was killed in the process. - The one headquarters game early in my Rebellion gaming where I blew up the rebel base with the Death Star more later
  18. I think a reasonable explanation of what Leia remembers are feelings conveyed through the force. Perhaps, she has more empathy with her than Luke does and thusly feels images and emotions. "Images mostly...she was very sad." She doesn't specify memories per se, so it fits About Yoda not intercepting Palpatine's lightning: Maybe he just wasn't ready for it. Alot of people understate Palpatine's power in the dark side and it could have just caught Yoda by suprise The creature Obi-Wan rides (I don't know the name, I don't own the visual dictionary yet) does make an interesting noise, but I felt it fit rather perfectly. It'd be cliche to give it some cool roar or make it yell like a Tyrannosaurus. It was given a nice 'yelp' that's almost reptillian and avian all at once. It's Lucas (and maybe Bret Burtt) giving the Star Wars a natural sounding feel about the Battle of Coruscant: It's importance is two-fold to Palpatine. It gives the Senate a credible "slap in the face", so to speak, about the war to drive the nail on more Emergency Powers for the good chancellor. Also, as my sig points out, it allows Anakin to further his destiny at the Emperor's side I thought the movie was well done, and I love it more each time I see it
  19. yea, independent fighter control would be cool, but not in Battle Mode. I like the way it is now, but imagine you're able to group fighters from one planet and send them on a mission Hit and Fade just the same way you group characters and select sabotage on ships in orbit, or individual shipyards it wouldn't be a battle, just a mission which success is based on the number of enemy fighters based at the target location and the presence of a Commander at said planet. It'd make them handy, and akin to needing a General to foil sabotage missions. Cool, huh? also: I take back my idea a couple posts up about neutral systems. Instead, I feel that they shouldn't be able to attack or be attacked, merely that they give you full resources. They way to control them would be with Diplomacy. It'd be a battle to keep their support up and would also give your diplomats something to in the later game
  20. Palpatine just threw that in to further influence young Skywalker to his side notice later when he says (roughly, I've only seen it thrice): "Only one has mastered the ability to cheat death, but perhaps together we can unlock the secrets..." Ugh, I know I butchered that, and I feel like a wannabe fan, I apologize anyway, he doesn't know ofcourse. He lies to Anakin to further drive the nail that is his servitude to the Emperor
  21. What's the difference between Surround and Standoff when in battle? What are the benefits of each? In what situations would you use either? also, does anyone have, or can anyone give me a concise explanations on the formations? eg: Hammer, Anvil, Left Hook, Right Hook how does one use them? Do you have to combine them with either Surround/Standoff to get a desired affect? thanks
  22. first of all, could someone comment on my "No fighters until Lancer -or- Escort carriers full of TIEs in early game" question? It would help immensely now to TIE Bombers: They have the same stats as standard TIEs, but do they secretly perform worse? I read somewhere on these forums that the AI will automagically target fighters more threatening to the fleet (Bombers, B-Wings), then from the most advanced fighters on down the consensus seems pretty split on whether Bombers are worth their maintenance points what are some ways to utilize them properly? Maybe dance them around with waypoints while your interceptors/carracks/lancers kill the enemy fighters and then smite the rebel fleet?
  23. so basically, the only factor is that Major characters cannot be assassinated? I dunno, I just seem to remember having trouble in one game whacking Mazer Rackus (the twi'lek rebel) and he just wouldn't die! Sometimes, I load up on like 3-5 characters sometimes trying to finish them off when they're injured, could I try lowering the number? Then again, it's not like they get foiled, it just says, "The mission to assassinate X rebel scum has failed." d'oh
  24. you know, that's funny because where I read up on Empire strategy it said the first ships to build should be Escort Carriers so you can add a good dose of fighter strength to your fleet (especially when paired with VSD's that only carry 2 squadrons) are you suggesting to concentrate instead on good antifighter capitols (like Carrack first, Lancer later) until you have Interceptors? Also, what are your thoughts on TIE Bombers? more later... Okay, it's later, now here's a few things I like to do when I play the Galactic Empire: - Ofcourse, all the basics. At the start of the game, switch your viewer to Idle Personnel and assign them all to jobs. - I set my construction yards to expand until each has 3, then to building up other facilities.I'll expand them later to include one contruction planet per sector - Use your fleets to blockade Rebel systems in your sector and then use high Leadership/low Diplomacy characters (like Screed, Grammel, Griff, etc) to Incite Uprisings on Rebel planets with over 25% Imperial support. Preferably, incite on worlds that will hurt the Rebellion the most like those with construction yards and especially shipyards. This is one of my favorite things to do. Alot of times you can use your Leadership guys to sabotage any army units that might be lying in wait as their combat rating is pretty high It's not too hard as Imperial characters have high leadership bonuses and I guess this is the Empire's answer to what the Rebellion does in their early game. Often you can find rebel sympathizing Imperial planets and simply sabotage the army units until they give the Empire the boot and join your pathetic little band without any need for diplomacy. more even later...I hate work
  25. here's the situation: I have a team of Espionage/Combat characters (Noval Garaint, Niles Ferrier, Labansat, etc) and a couple Leadership characters (Grammel, Screed, Grif, etc) who are doing hits on rebellious infidels who have not accepted the glory of the true Galactic Empire. I try assassinating them, and alot of times I succeed either first try or a couple. Every once in awhile I will have trouble executing Chewie (or Han or Madine or even Dodonna sometimes, scum is all the same, lol) and it just won't friggin work. What happens is I injure them and eventually I get tired of trying and I just have to abduct them, which ofcourse goes off without a hitch the first time. As an aside, I once was trying to liquidate a character and it failed, so I tried to abduct him and he was killed by accident. Anyway, what governs your chance to successfully pull off an assassination versus an abduction? I checked the lucasarts page on Rebellion and they list the chances of each as the same (something like combat rating of target minus combat of mission personnel) so what gives?
