  1. Some of these tips might be familiar to veteran players. But I've found less people are aware of them than I expected. At the beginning of the game you start out with a planet that is rebel supported but imperial held. Here's how to quickly return it to your favor as to avoid a domino effect. By domino effect I mean your troops being taken out therefore causing the majority of the system to fall into rebel hands. This happends when a planet is in rebel favor, but you hold it through a garrison. 1st. Move all but one or two troops off the planet. This will cuase the planet to go into uprising. 2nd. Assign a high leadership personnel to subdue the uprising. This can be any personnel. They don't have to even have high diplomacy, just high leadership. Limit it to one mission per person. 3rd. Because of the high leadership value of Imperial personnel, the uprising will be subdued within days. When Imperials subdue an uprising, it moves the support a few notches in Imperial favor. Subdue the uprising until the garrison requirement says 1 or 0. If you have two troops and the garrison requirement is 2, remove one troop as to make the planet go into uprising again. Subudue the uprising. Often times after that last uprising mission the planet will have a 0 garrison requirement. Meaning it supports you enough to where you do not need to station troops there, you may opt to remove the troop as needed. Most of the times it will subdue and the garrison requirement will be 1. Meaning you need that one troop to maintain control. Do not remove the troop if the requirement is 1! Simply have a diplomatic person "touch up" the planet through a successful diplomatic mission. Once the requirement is 0, the planet is firmly in your favor. The risk of a domino is averted, you may choose to remove the last troop from the planet without risk. In summary: -Remove troops until the planet goes into uprising -Assign high leadership personnel to subdue the uprising. The more the better. But each person on a seperate mission, not on the same mission! You do not need decoys. -Repeat until the garrison requirement is 0 or 1. If it is 1, touch up the planet by diplomatizing with a diplomatic character. If you have a transport in orbit with troops, land the troops as to avoid the risk of having the one troop sabotaged, therefore causing a domino. -Once the requirement is 0 and the planet largely favors you, it is safe to remove troops from the planet without risk. This strategy should also be used to quickly capture rebel planets in Sesswanna. You want to remove rebel presence from Sesswanna right at the very beginning. Note: The rebel characters have a harder time subdoing uprisings. And successful subdue uprising missions DO NOT move support in the rebel favor. Key difference. They just decrease the garrison requirement slightly. The best way for rebels to capture planets is to use six troops at once, then have a couple diplomatic characters quickly diplomatize the planet into your favor. You want to avoid uprisings as the rebel side unless you have troops you can quickly fly in from a nearby planet (early on you will have only a couple transports, so using six troops is not always possible.) Once there are enough troops to help the personnel subdue the uprising, quickly diplomatize the planet. Remember, its risky for the rebels early on, so assault only if you can hold the planet. Usually this means a minor rebel fighter presence. Recent multiplayer scenario: "In the Sluis sector a planet which I was controlling was largely sympathetic to the rebellion. The only personnel assigned to the planet was Veers. Veers has exceptional leadership capabilities. The planet had no batteries or shields, making it VERY vulnerable to early bombardment, and therefore, I was at high risk of losing the whole sector due to a domino effect. In fact I already noticed a small rebel fleet enroute to the planet! This one knows what he's doing for sure! I removed two of the army regiments, redeploying them all the way back to Coruscant. The planet went into uprising. I assigned Veers a mission to subdue the uprising. Within days the uprising was subdued and the support went slightly into my favor. I had two army regiments on the planet, and decided to take the risk and remove one, making the planet go into uprising once again. Veers was once again assigned to stamp out the rebel insurgency with an iron fist. Imperial style. Within five days of the rebel fleet arrival the uprising was subdued! To my surprise it no longer needed a garrison at all. Veers did an exceptional job to such extreme that I did not even need to send a diplomat to finish the job. I moved the only troop stationed there to Coruscant, as its presence was no longer required on the now imperial supported planet. The populace now knows better than to rebel against the might of the Empire. I reassigned Veers on another mission and denied the rebellion the control of the Sluis sector." Right now I am #1 on the Rebellion league. I'm always looking for more great opponents to play. Playing Rebellion multiplayer is THE WAY TO GO. You don't know what to expect from a human player and there is a bigger variety of strategies you can employ. Not to mention the fact that each game is different, makes each game interesting and unique. http://www.myleague.com/swrebellion1/ Join the league, and message one of the players through MSN anytime for a game. I'm at baron2100@msn.com if you ever want a game.
  2. By the way it still crashes, even with XP. Just not as common. Just save often.
  3. I got some good news. We will soon have a place to play Rebellion: Hi Dmitri, Thanks for the heads up, this has been passed along to the techies! If there's anything else we can do to help, please let us know. Karen "Cobby" Cobb GameSpy Customer Service IGN Entertainment kcobb@igngamespy.com -----Original Message----- From: baron2100@msn.com [mailto:baron2100@msn.com] Sent: Wednesday, December 29, 2004 12:51 AM To: suggestions@gamespyarcade.com Subject: [GameSpy Arcade Feature Suggestion] Importance: High Name: Dmitri Email: baron2100@msn.com Feature: You guys need to FIX THIS ASAP! I've heard numerous times people have tried to play Star Wars Rebellion on here, only to fail. Seems they found out version 1.01 does not work with GameSpy Arcade. 1.01 is kind of important, as it addressed compatibilities between U.S. and International versions. Topic: You know why Star Wars Rebellion room is empty! Arcade doesen't work with 1.01! You all need to fix this ASAP! Do some testing, hell I'll even volunteer to test this out for you to get it to work. The small but existant Star Wars Rebellion community now matches up through instant message contacts so on and so forth, since the Zone dropped Rebellion. If GameSpy Arcade were to work with 1.01, we would finally have a place to go to play Rebellion. I hope you all listen. If you do, I'll definetly be subscribing to this service.
  4. Definetly "A Christmas Story." Gotta be the funniest Christmas movie out there still.
  5. Go here: http://webpages.charter.net/multiplayer/ Theres a list of players who actively play. We use MSN messanger because it has a great little feature allowing you to set up a game with only the click of a button. No IP addresses needed or anything, it uses "DirectPlay" to launch the game and connect both players together. My msn email address is above if you ever want a game.
  6. I can safely say since I've started playing Rebellion with Windows XP I have not had a single crash. Works pretty well with it.
  7. I was Praetor_Pyro if any of you remember. Got to 2nd place on the origional ladder at one point. I could never beat Clydes_Dale though, he was good, real good.
  8. Whoa I'm still in the hall of fame I just signed up for the one you all are running. Someone challenge me! I'm itching to play!
  9. Hands down, multiplayer is the best way to play Rebellion. For me, its the only way. Its fun and exciting, with each game turning out differently from the last. -You can't taunt the computer -AI is very very predictable, and easy to defeat. You don't know what to expect from human players -Human players use a bigger variety of strategies -Its way more fun, and more "social" than playing the computer -Each game is totally different. The majority of games tides can shift very quickly. There is something going on at all times. Against the computer you don't expect an aggressive style of play, so games aren't all that exciting. Vs human players, you can expect anything to happen. What I'm saying is, play more MULTIPLAYER. Its the BEST way to play Star Wars Rebellion. This game is like StarCraft in a sense that it has a good single play campaign, but it TRULY shines multiplayer. You can message me on MSN at baron2100@msn.com anytime you want to play a game, and check the multiplayer forums.
  10. Yes, you would occasionally crash at the start of a battle. I remember that from playing on the Zone. The best way to deal with it at the time was to save every 20 or so days. There is, however, another way: I used a crash recovery program, but I am not sure whether this program will function with Windows XP. I have not had the chance to play Rebellion multiplayer with Windows XP yet, but at the time the program worked quite well, surprisingly. I was running Windows 98 and used Norton Crash Recovery. When a crash occurs, it actually let you select an option "recover". It actually worked, and it would allow you to resume the game without any crashes. Like I said, since I haven't played Rebellion with Windows XP (noone seems to be around to play, if you play, PLEASE add me to your list: baron2100@msn.com, I'll be around all day Friday). For now, until there is another solution, save the game every 20 or so days. The crashes don't occur very often when they do occur. Another good suggestion would be to close off anything unecessary.
  11. I've had the same CD for the longest time. Thats part of the problem. Its all scratched up and the game often freezes and does weird stuff during cut-scene playback. Anyone have a difinitive suggestion?
  12. Thats correct. Seems like an oversight by them. 1.0 works but not 1.01.
  13. Hey all, Because SW:Rebellion has somewhat of a clunky in-game chat system, I'd like to introduce a dedicated Ventrillo Server for use during games. It is a simple more efficient way to communicate. Hold down a button, and speak into the microphone. If you don't have Ventrilo, go to: http://www.ventrilo.com and download the CLIENT VERSION. Its very simple and easy to use. Just be sure to have your microphone plugged in. If you don't have a microphone you can buy one for like 5-10 bucks, they're pretty cheap. Page me on MSN at baron2100@msn.com for a game sometime, and I'll give you the server address.
  14. Naturally, my disc is pretty scratched up, and it gives me problems when I play an in-game cutscene. Back when I played on the Zone, I used to use a little gem of a program with Windows 98. "CD Copier Gamer's Edition". Great little program. I'd get the CD image straight to the hard drive, and play away. Problem is it does not function with Windows XP. Is there any other way to go about playing Rebellion completely from the hard drive?
  15. Don't be silly. What other way is there to play Rebellion, vs the ludicrously silly and easy AI?
  16. http://www.forumplanet.com/gamespyarcade/forum.asp?fid=1561 Go on here and make a suggestion. Use your gamespy arcade log in to post, if you don't have one, make one, it's free. I already made a post of course: http://www.forumplanet.com/gamespyarcade/topic.asp?fid=1561&tid=1566576 I suggest making a unique post! Lets get us all a place to play Star Wars Rebellion!
  17. http://www.forumplanet.com/gamespyarcade/forum.asp?fid=1561 Post the suggestion. Use your GameSpy account to log in, and POST. The more vocal we are the better.
  18. Aha! I figured it out. I will stick a sunflower seedling through my alt key as to hold it down permanately throughout the game.
  19. Lets see, some of the more commoner ones I use are ALT - and ALT + slow down and speed up the game ALT S - Show stats (character, etc) ALM M - Send on a mission ALT 5 - IDLE PERSONNEL There are many more. But this is just off the top of my head.
  20. Hey all, Before I say who I played so many many months ago, I'd like to see if there are any familiar names on here from the zone. The guilds GL and VE seem to come to mind the most. They still around?
  21. That was probably my biggest beef. Like to send a guy on a mission you have to hit ALT M, etc. There was no one hit shortcut for any action. Is there anyway to reassign the shortcut keys to this game? That would also speed up multiplayer play. Yeah I remember I used to use a Strategic Commander for Star Wars Rebellion. Worked like a charm. I broke it.
