  1. about the strength of fleet vs comm strength, well it would just come down to a competition of whom can build the strongest communication and planet defense vs who can build the strongest fleet with the best jamming power. it doesnt leave much room for choice: it's either do or die, or, do or never conquer. at first it can be really fun ie "woohoo look at my amazing fleet it can conquer anything!" or "haha my planet is impregnable!!" those kinds of things get dull quickly instead what if it was left more to a random element, or to other parts of the game. without expanding too much on communication, leaving it as a simple element: a planet can communicate unless jammed/sabotaged/etc. now suppose a player fleet enters a system, the player can then decide to blow up or jam the communications, although there's the risk of being attacked by planetary guns, and then theres always a chance where the defending player would launch a counter offensive. without giving either side a certainty of victory, and still leave room for either side to win, with technology being considered of course (gungans vs trade federation for example) i think would keep planetary engagements fresher and more prone to skill, as long as everything else is in check in any case there has to be a better way than just a simple 'the biggest stack will win' decision. communication lines would be really neat to have. there could be some simple governor orders we can place on planets 'in case of blockade', or imagine if its the capital planet that's blockaded. then you lose control of the entire empire?
  2. that would be interesting if control of systems would sometimes be greyed out, either due to communication jamming, sabotage, assassination, coups, etc. thing is, how to properly implement it. it would be fun if it happens from time to time, although what if it happening all the time! and how could it affect the AI without considerably restraining the AI's ability to play against a player? And in MP? would it be used all the time and just turn into an annoyance? this sort of tactic would need some sort of counter too
  3. thanks for the post, great read! i guess all those qui, zawuxi, quirby, and other weird names are part of the novels right? Obviously it's official, I just find most of the names don't flow so good. Correlian, Coruscant, Mon Calamari, these just seem to sound better. Having read only one novel (which was really good, yet not enough where I still remember the title) I guess I don't share some of the same electric fervor other fans do so don't take that too negativly maybe some other things you can do is add a few more paragraphs and line breaks, dividing the story in short summaries that tie in somewhat, like paragraph 2 ties in with 3, although not forgetting where something in paragraph 1 can tie in with something in the last part of the story. and of course, unless typing is really a big chore more content please! next article: Lando or Han!
  4. so you don't know if its supposed to be the galaxy at large, the inner core, a star, a nebula, another galaxy neighboring the one far far away, or ?
  5. the puppets are much more interesting to look at than the CG stuff. I'm not able to think of many movies where the CG actually looked real. I'd say the first one to come to mind would be the first jurassic park, and maybe that's because of the color tones and just how large the dinos are. seriously, the dinosaurs of jurassic park beat the aliens of ep 1 and 2 the flying yoda wasn't so bad though.. kind of like a green blur after a few beers btw, what is that space picture supposed to represent (the one following 'for the azzameen')? it's from ESB right?
  6. yeah film production and EU story, whole different things though they did do a good job in ep 4 (cantina) for a relatively long scene
  7. from what I can tell, the music files are the mdata.300 through 315, right? and the 15 other files are movies only? also, does anyone know off hand how the music plays? for some music it seems to be queued, while at other times the music selection seems pretty random. does anyone know if its 100% random or if it's queued, on event or just queued to 'play all'? I'll be listening some more now for sure.. I was thinking of using some music from the soundtracks, the full tracks or maybe just some parts of it
  8. notice that there's many more humans in ep 4-5-6, than in ep 1-2, where frankly, GL puts in lots of non humans. it's almost like being in the star wars cantina throughout the 2 movies. there is a reason to this. according to EU stuff, when the empire came into being it was believed that for the empire to survive it had to be dominated in all aspects by humans. Because it was the events of non humans (ie trade federation, others) that brought disorder to the 'republic', along with the idea that the hugely diverse senate brought about stagnation and corruption, and how it was only a brilliant human who kept the galaxy from entering a state of total chaos (palpatine), the majority of the human core worlds accepted this notion of human superiority and leadership. from what I've read, after the republic there was new laws that abolished slavery, imposed higher taxes and fares on non humans, restricted aliens from leaving their home worlds, and that sort of stuff. this is pretty much why in 4-5-6 theres not so many aliens, storywise anyway.
  9. so far so good don't stop writing this I'm looking forward to reading it through
  10. no, maybe if you google for it you could find it though
  11. well i downloaded it from somewhere. printed it and keep it as fun reading material. it's almost like an encyclopedia of SW EU stuff
  12. hello, this sounds like a really interesting project. I'd like to add: when designing everything, keep as much as possible modifiable. for example: names in the game: instead of 'luke' use 'luc'. same kind of variation for all names really, interchangable resources like that. strings like that could just be read from a plain text file really, and that's easy to edit. the same applies to pictures and other media resources. this makes the foundations of the game easily modifiable: encourages longevity of the game and helps with sequel sales. it also covers the game from any legal issues that might be faced because of using star wars only stuff. by not using star wars exclusive material, you don't have to worry about lucasarts. however having the game modiafiable from the ground up, it's a no brainer to port the non star wars game into a full star wars branded game. about the engine, of course you want to make one yourself! it's not like anyone here is willing to fund big dollars for a project like this open source and free? No way! Best to keep it private within a dedicated team that works on it. Dedicated team, not just anyone wanting to give it a go, get full access, and then depart a week later, because then things can get leaked. When it's done and done then it's time to consider releasing it, which brings me too... LucasArts publishing it. With a solid game, the work nearly cut out for them (short of QA and the distribution deals) and a good presentation, I fail to see how LucasArts wouldn't want to publish such a strategy game. There's a big market for strategy games, and imagine with the Star Wars name on it, it expands the market potential big time. Of course LucasArts will demand a percentage, although think of it this way: (not real numbers of course) without star wars name: 25,000 sales x 39.95, 100% goes to the swrebellion.com team with star wars name: 250,000 sales x 39.95, 30% goes to the swrebellion.com team cool huh?
  13. pen and paper RPG, I believe the book is called Star Wars Rebellion Era Sourcebook. published by wizards of the coast, and it has the 'Lucas Books' stamp of approval thing, along with the lucasfilm TM, just to say its official
  14. hi about hyperspace travel and humans, according to some star wars RPG material, historians of the 'old republic' believed that the Duros (non-humans from the planet of duros ) introduced the hyperdrive to the humans. however the material does mention that the duros introduced it to the humans of Coruscant and Corellia.
