Re: 1.3 Patch and Existing Mod Compatability
smellymummy replied to MistenTH's topic in EAW Mods General Workshop
it has plenty of singleplayer changes. and use the script above ^ to see what they changed exactly in the xmls from 1.02 to 1.03 in case there's new values or changes you would like to consider as for the securerom thing, it is dissapointing, but just wait a little while and there will be a fix from the net community. until then play 1.02.. or make the xml changes yourself by comparing the two versions (limited by what 1.02 can handle of course) -

but in the balancing improvement section, theres several changes there, aren't those tweaks in the xml files? like the health of vaders unit, or recharge times of this and that unit, etc. i recently downloaded the kyle/mara enabled for galactic conquest mod, and that one includes ALL the xml files instead of just the xml files that got changed. kinda difficult to figure out if that mod is going to conflict with anything or not, there is 300+ files afterall and to figuring out what files changed, you can use a program like ultraedit that compares files.. and go through each one at a time edit: or use the attached perl script i just made. run it in dos like this: perl script directory1 director2 it will show the differences file by file. you can also add > output.txt at the end to get the output written to a file (btw you will need perl for windows installed, like activestate perl) -

actually, all it would need is a search of the source code files. it's really easy, all they have to do is use something like grep. i've seen mistakes like this in other games too, and i mean obvious and rediculous typos that make it through production. it's sloppy coding, bad methodology, using coders that aren't familiar with what they are programming (non die hard fans :) and well a result of being rushed. in contrast, find a superb game that mods great, and you'll find it to be impeccable. now that's good game making -
is it possible to have the AI move their leader? it seems the emperor or mon mothma are always staying put in their original location. as it is, you just need to rush to coruscant or hoth, and you win. i looked at the lua files, and they dont seem to be plain editable text. any ideas?

both are listed in the herocompanies.xml file. i'm just not sure what tags to edit and what values to enter to enable them, if that's enough to get them to work that is. even then, what function should they get?

Observations after the first max sized Galactic Conquest
smellymummy replied to ShockMeSane's topic in EAW General Discussion
i just finished a galactic conquest as rebels on medium, on the 21 planet map. i'd say it took me a good 6 hours, thats only because the first four i would play out the very long land battles. after a while, i started auto resolving all the land battles and accept the losses, because i could replenish them really quickly anyway, not mentioning all the free units i was getting. besides, with some Y wings in orbit it seemed i lost less units (probably due to the bombardment). there was one or two defensive land battle that i played out which were really satisfying though this was my first run at the game, i did the tutorials and didnt even touch campaign or skirmish (i was looking for a rebellion 2 game), and at the begining i thought it was hard, although once i read about hiting the hangars, space battles became extremely easy. if anything, hangars need more defense! i can't really think of any scenes in the movies where hangars got obliterated, not counting parts where an entire ship went down of course. the turning point was when the empire cleared out a pirate system, i was then able to move onto the empire's newly acquired non reinforced planet. another factor was how fast it is to tech up and then get all those free hero units (ackbar, etc). by the time i conquered mon cal, the AI couldnt stop me. the empire didnt build a death star, and at the end when i auto resolved the land battle on coruscant it showed the AI's loss as only being the emperor. I don't know if this means the AI only had the emperor guarissoned on corsucant or if the battle auto ends when the emperor is killed -
Your thoughts on Empire at War and Star Wars Rebellion!!!
smellymummy replied to Flashman22's topic in Empire at War
so scale wise, EaW is no comparison to rebellion? what about solving the rebellion fix, can this game do that? or am i just going to find myself clicking around like crazy rushing to move units here and there a la aoe/ee/c&c/etc ? -

Welcome to the #3 Edition of 60 Standard Minutes.

thanks makes perfect sense. actually i was just assuming the years were being counted ahead (183, 184, etc) and not towards the point of the empires birth -

PE means Pre-Empire? That would make sense, if the years are in reverse. Otherwise how can you count from point 0, if point 0 is before the event? I can see Post Empire as a designation, although it's more than certain that it doesn't mean that -
this makes me want to load up an empire save game

wow these we're great. I had no idea of the extent of chewie's service a few questions though: how old can wookie live? what is the designation PE mean (in chewbacca's birthday), and people actually take vacations to Kessel? -
whenever you want

typical spy-power-politco-hungry type of character i think

a little cgi and shockwave could get a quick prototype up and ready on the web for anyone to see it's really not so far fetched after all...

storyline accurate industrial complexes can easily be implemented. established shipyards for example, can be generated during map generation. as long as it can be kept balanced and fun. this kind of stuff gets tested once there's a working program that can flesh out a galactic map, map out the hyperspace lanes, generate the characters, load up the trading... and all that stuff

i see you are a fellow earthling! oooh (where is) Canada?

good article. I enjoyed the borsk one, since i never really knew what he did. you need to add more paragraphs and line breaks in your posts. it makes reading much more easier! so the next one in han solo? a good followup to solo would be calrissian. smuggling stories should be fun
