Your thoughts on Empire at War and Star Wars Rebellion!!!
Pierre replied to Flashman22's topic in Empire at War
If you don't have it, don't buy it. Except if, like me, you just cannot help buying any SW video game... I was bored with EAW like 4 days after I had it. I started the Empire campaign... The game is so repetitive that I started to auto-resolve the battles and then, of course, definitely quit it. -
I guess the market's geniuses that lead LucasArts think we're not numerous enough. I'm afraid they're right also.

It would be cool to have a "Rebellion" mod for EAW. That would include: - build times dramatically increased, - prices dramatically increased, - maintenance economy, - MORE (a lot more) characters and the ability for them to make missions... like sabotage installations. - Popular support feature, influencing the garrisons necessities... Ah... Forget it. Rebellion is so far ahead of EAW... Why is video games industry is going backward ? Don't answaer that, I know.

You're still thinking about building a strategy in this game ? I gave that up long time ago... My last mistake was trying to save ships from destruction by removing them from battle when they suffered heavy dommages (like no functionning canon left...). BIG ERROR ! Doing this prevents the arrival of reinforcements... so the ships have to die. Sadly, this game is nice and beautiful, but it has nothing to do with strategy. Not a scoop, strategy tends to be out of video games industry nowadays. < sigh >

My god ! You guys don't think that there is too much units bought too easily in EAW already ?
-
The MAIN advantage of Rebels in the long hand is that their worlds usually don't loose popular support with time. Empire planets have to constantly be under growing strong garrison guard.

I am in ! Yay !

I play with it everyday Cain, great job ! Thank you very much. Although the pirates units seem to surprisingly remain still both in space and on field.

Hey guys, How to make a XFire profile for Rebellion, to make sure the games is in the list of played games ? My XFire: djpif Thanks.

Hi, I would love to play a Rebellion game with anyone. Few things: - only huge galaxies, - only serious players willing to save games and get back to it untill the end (I mean until one of the players says: "it's the end"), - Europe compatible times. MSN & email : chouetteducourrier (/-\) pierrefrance.com ICQ: 1079722 See you in the galaxy !

Don't play it alone man, play it with a friend and you'll see if it's that easy...

Does anyone know how to add SW Rebellion to Xfiles installed games ?

Re: [ROR] A Taste of Rebellion (In Development)
Pierre replied to Stellar_Magic's topic in EAW - Modding Arts Inc.
Hence it has nothing to do with Star Wars Rebellion, the old game ? -

Is "a taste of Rebellion" a title in reference to SW Rebellion game ? I mean, does this mod will try to make EAW more like SW Rebellion ? -
Lucas won't come after you if you use the SW universe, unless you start making money out of it. So get on it dude ! I'll beta test.

If after six years, there are still a bunch of players loosingly still playing and remembering EAW, then I guess EAW is like SWR. But I doubt it. The unique intensity of SWR, coming from the outcomes of each decisions you take, the place of characters, is absent from EAW.
-
The most challenging part of Rebellion, the planning of offensives during like 100 turns, is completely absent from EAW. In Rebellion, when you finally get an ISD into a system, it shifts the balance of power in the area. In EAW, it's just another ISD... So to be short, all the cunning part, the smart part, the diplomacy part, the strategy part, the spying part... all that is GONE and is not in EAW. EAW is a nice and lovely RTS GAME, with a minimal campaign layer (like Rome TW) while Rebellion is a campaign game with a basic battle mode. I still have dreams about a possible Rebellion 2, but given the no-risk stance in game design currently, that will never happen. We'll have to do it ourselves and wait with kids' games like EAW meanwhile...

I think modders will pull out this game of nullity... If modders can handle prices and time to build ships, we can have a pretty decent strategy game. I play the demo, it's really beautiful...

A link to ready to use mods: http://www.eawhq.de/index.php?go=downloads&dl_id=10

I know but most of them are hard to use. What we (casual dumb gamers) need is an exe wich replace all files correctly so we can hit "play now" button...
-
The demo is already cracked, with the ability to turn on a lot of features... http://www.technical-difficulties.com/hacks/eaw/ If anyone gets what's being said here, can he make a zip so we can overwrite the stuff ? Thanks.

Agreed. All real strategy fans will be disappointed here... It's a really classic RTS, like C&C and nothing more. The campaign side of the game is well done and multiplayer games will be fun but... - in battles, units behave erratically. There is no "standing ground" behavior, even for big units like AT-ATs... so after a while trying to organise, you just grab all your units and send them as a whole to enemy units... - space battles are really pretty and *could* be a lot of fun, but the 2D modeling, the speedyness of them (a nebulon B frigate can die in seconds)... remove all the strategy out of it. It's lovely, it's probably fun for some people, it's Star Wars no doubt (cute sounds everywhere)... it's... a shame for real strategy lovers like us. We can only dream of a Rebellion 2 with those graphics...

I am thrilled to hear about this... I still play Rebellion versus a few friends. This game has unique features. I just want to know: - will Reb Reloaded be after the classic trilogy or during that time ? - will Reb Reloaded correct an annoying bug that prevents one player to act on a discovered mission that will take place upon arrival of the characters ?
