Quite correct, I used to do this often. Easiest way to demonstrate a ship hold is, by your example, place the two ISDs into a taskforce. Set the taskforce formation to surround (as opposed to standoff) and target the corvette. The ISDs will position themselves equally off each side of the corvette catching in between and you'll see a blue tractor bubble engulf the ship. It will be froze in place and the ISDs will pummel it into space dust.

I haven't tested the game myself in Windows 7, perhaps if I get an account on my university's MSDNAA again sometime soon. I have a copy of 2008 R2 from dreamspark so I could give it a try on that. However, it's quite possible the old d3drm.dll import is not going to work natively under Windows 7 anymore. You may have to try XP mode or running the game in a separate virtual machine with an older client OS such as XP. Technically speaking, much changed below the hood with Windows 7. The legacy .dll names that originally held many of the API call methods now only contain pointers to new files containing the actual code. This should be transparent to the application making the API call in theory, but older APIs may have been deprecated further. Such was the case with d3drm.dll support being removed completely from Vista, though at the time, importing the file from XP still appeared to be a viable option with exception to being a bit buggy and slow at times. Of course, according to Mithious, everything still works fine so I'll take his work on it for now. viewtopic.php?p=542563#p542563

Select the Maximum option. - Open the Star Wars Rebellion cd in explorer and copy the Rebellion\MData folder to C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion\MDATA - Open the Star Wars Rebellion cd in explorer and copy all Rebellio\*.dll files to C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion - Copy REBEXE.EXE to C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion, Click Yes to replace. - (Vista users only) Copy the d3drm.dll to C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion - Update your Rebellion desktop icon properties to use the new icon included in REBEXE.EXE (1.02) - Copy the following text into notepad and save the file as Rebellion_x86.reg, right-click the file icon and perform Merge. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The text of the registry files is now quoted and can be easily copied to notepad. However, you need my executable if you decide to use the redirected data caches from CD to Hard Drive. To use the original game executables, reverse the changes to following lines from the files above. The changes are noted below, you can simply edit the provided code for the registry keys to their original values and then merge and use the original game executables if you wish. [-] denotes change away from original registry key value to [+] denotes updated registry key value to redirect game caches. -

Rebellion Refreshed and Reloaded Ultimate Package (x86/x64)
budious replied to budious's topic in Rebellion Reloaded
I will take a look but it never worked as intended anyways so big no loss. Just noticed a minor oversight which explains why most of you who tried this never got it working properly. In the two registry merges for Reloaded (Reloaded_x86.reg and Reloaded_x64.reg) there was a slight typo I forgot to swap out. As highlighted in bold from the above extract of Reloaded_x86.reg, simply open the file in text editor and change the following "[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Star Wars Rebellion]" to "[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Star Wars Reloaded]", save the file and merge as per the rest of the instructions. Sorry! -
This Game Can't Repel a DVD Drive of That Magnitude!
budious replied to BentonGrey's question in Questions from Newbies
I assume you mean by installing from desktop you ran the installer from your local drive, in which case the registry entry generated for the path to the CDROM points to your hard drive. A dive into the registry will fix this. I don't have the keys off hand but search for the x64 installation thread in these forums and you'll find the registry information you are looking for. The above code is for modifying the registry to take files normally found on the CDROM even during a regular full installation and to copy them to the local hard drive and modify the pointer to the hard drive locations (BOLD). To use the code above you need a cd crack. However, your system has probably already done something similar to point to your desktop or from wherever you launched the "ripped" installer. Change the two highlighted registry keys to reflect the path of your CDROM. "EncyLocation"="D:\\EData" "TooBigLocation"="D:\\" -

Yeah, I forgot to mention that step that you need to create an empty folder named "SaveGame" in the Rebellion installation directory. -
Changing the size of the game in Virtual Pc...
budious replied to southgadawg74's question in Questions from Newbies
You can try changing the desktop resolution of the virtual client to 640x480 as that is the only supported rendering mode for Rebellion. When you make the virtual desktop full screen it does not take up your full monitor on your host client's desktop resolution, there is not a way to upscale the video output that I know of (yet). -
Star Wars Rebellion Data Editor (swrde) -ready for release?
budious replied to errantone's topic in Rebellion Editing
Orginal editor probably limits values to 65k due to the form of variable used in the original coding of the game? The developers of the time probably didn't see the need for anything beyond unsigned 16 bit integers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integer_(computer_science) -
The secret is that if Emperor is on Coruscant then all Imperials have 50% leadership bonus, use it to incite uprising missions in same galaxy where your agents are trying to turn neutral or strengthen Imperial loyal planets. The two missions both influence diplomacy and planets within the same galaxy likewise influence each other, you can easy chain a few missions together across planets which eventually create a chain reaction in which several planets change faction on a single turn. Diplomacy requires a high diplomacy and incite uprising requires high leadership, both mission types will influence diplomacy, just think of the other as negative diplomacy.

Cool news... thanks for the feedback. The old work around still works for Windows 7 x64 will be noted. Whats that supposed to mean? You know what I meant... :/

New Zone Multiplayer Client To Play Rebellion Online!
budious replied to VooblyNSG's topic in Rebellion Multiplayer
Holy crap... the Zone is back! I never thought I'd see the day. -
Some time ago, I was wanting to hex edit the RebEd utility to look utilize a different set of registry keys to make a standalone installation of the Reloaded mod. In order to do this I had to find the appropriate tool to reverse the executable compression. When this was done (I think it was Delphi Studio 5 or something like that) the executable goes from 250KB to 1.25MB (if I remember correctly) and the file can now be read and edited clearly using a hex editor. This is in no way a reverse engineering of the original application in itself, however, it does get you beyond the first obstacle. If you have lots of spare time and a willingness to learn (more than I do) you can read the following link: http://hackerschool.org/DefconCTF/17/B300.html May the force be with you! Think I have the uncompressed .exe form on a drive somewhere, just a matter of me finding it and uploading it again, or you can try and do it yourself. Good luck.

Star Wars Rebellion - x64 Installer (Beta 4)
budious replied to budious's topic in General Discussion
I'll keep it in mind if there is anything useful still in my possession or if I take the initiative to salvage any of my past work. That aside, most of my findings appear to be well documented in swrebellion wiki and throughout posts on these forums. -
Never played Ogame but looking at the website it actually has graphics or an interface of some type (flash?)... planetarion is just like playing with an spreadsheet calculator but making a game out of it. Your ships are imaginary and represented by stats, I guess you could draw your own interpretive pictures on napkins if you're bored...
-
www.planetarion.com purely html, turn based mmo strategy... basically just a reason to hang out on irc and talk about other shit between turns...

Star Wars Rebellion - x64 Installer (Beta 4)
budious replied to budious's topic in General Discussion
For future reference, it does appear to work under Windows 7's XP compatibility as documented by the following thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27606 Enjoy your second lease on life Rebellion! -
Wow, I'm glad you could follow that. I know that I wrote it at some point but I'm blowing my own mind here reading it again.
-
Just make sure when your done to drag rebellion over to the trash where it belongs... Good to see that there is at least a workaround on Microsoft's part for Windows 7 and older application compatibility, though not a proper one.

Rebellion 2008: Remake of a new Source Engine.
budious replied to Slocket's topic in Rebellion Editing
Good initiative to take on this project and your work looks promising. I would hope that you will take under consideration of making the project open source to the community at some point in the future. Keep up the good work! -
Bought the PS3 version but it was rather bland and not what was promised during the technology demo videos posted boasting about the level of interactivity with the game enviornment and the revoluntionary physics at work. Artwork was sloppy, controls and level design were sloppy, got bored and stopped playing around mission 7... haven't touched in since.

Rebellion Refreshed and Reloaded Ultimate Package (x86/x64)
budious replied to budious's topic in Rebellion Reloaded
Is ReloadED available to be downloaded anywhere because the file is not on myfreefilehosting.com anymore. Thanks. I didn't test it thoroughly, I had some problems with it and some unexpected behaviors, If I find a copy I backed up somewhere I may reload it but it was nothing more than RebEd.exe which had been unpacked to unobfuscate the internal structure and hex edited to change the resource paths. Someone else may be able to do what I did with better success, I just promptly reverse engineered it at the time with little testing. -
Star Wars Rebellion - x64 Installer (Beta 4)
budious replied to budious's topic in General Discussion
I seem to have lost the last builds of this I was working on, I had an earlier broken build around but not nearly as functional as the deemed "Beta 4" but I believe the manual hacking of the registry and keys is posted throughout numerous threads I've made on these forums over the years. Think perhaps if you look in the Reloaded forum by posts started by budious you might find what you are looking for if you are adventurous. Playing in the registry is like playing in a minefield so follow the directions. If you have Windows 7, for the love of God, just install XP compatibility mode! - I haven't actually tested that yet but if you do please post back your findings. -
Clydes_Dale, I challenge you to Star Wars Rebellion!
budious replied to The Crazy Psychopath's topic in General Discussion
Hmm... visit #zoners on irc.netgamers.org and we can perhaps put you in touch with him. I'd have to go dig out some old MSN contacts. -
This game was really a masterpiece as far as original balancing goes. I played hundreds, if not thousands, of multiplayer games at the height of it's popularity. A skilled player had no favorite side because he knew the advantages and drawbacks of each. The mods are merely to keep some parties interested in playing the game, it's quite old obviously If you're going to play multiplayer though, I'd have no other way than to play the original content, any other form would be a disservice to the game... kind like making a special edition out of a child hood classic like Star Wars... We've all come to expect crappy balance in modern game releases because of the availability of consumers to conveniently download massive patches at the developers convenience after capitalizing on cashflow, and if they even bother to release a patch, it's often based on maintaining that cashflow and as no duty or service to the gamer.
