  1. Most obvious question first, is your CD/DVD/BD drive D:? If not search and replace D: with E: or F: or whatever. Second, Master_Xan is right, it's much too easy just to do a VM of XP 32-bit these days without all this hassle. Just do that.
  2. If you get bored and want to try a web based multiplayer game then give planetarion a try. You can apply for my game alliance in #dlr on irc.netgamers.org where I should be op'd if I am idling or pm another op and tell them budious sent you from swrebellion to apply to the DLR alliance. Note: You need to register an account at netgamers and be logged in to it to be able to join #dlr (registered user enforced) and to apply for alliance membership.
  3. http://www.indiedb.com/games/ensign-1/news/turrets-capital-ships-and-explosions Supports Mac, Windows, Linux. Game ships with a level editor. I thought it would make the excellent framework for a X-Wing / Tie Fighter clone with a Jedi Knight mash-up.
  4. You could try mirroring the installation from C:\Program Files (x86) to C:\Program FIles; just copy the directory after setup. Then apply the TC installer, then copy the patched install directory back to (x86). I did not test the TC extensively and probably just on 32-bit if I had, so I may have overlooked that.
  5. Unless you modified the executable, then you should be able to upgrade with the official patch, or drop in one of my executable replacements and the mod should load nomrally, well may require some additional work, I did this all a while back so I'm kind of fuzzy to what the hell I was doing at the time too, lol. At the most you may need to offload the complete installation to install directory and tweak the registry slightly. Doesn't hurt to try. Anyways, my vanilla fix is just install VirtualBox (free) and install Windows XP 32-bit (*cough*) and install Rebellion (*cough cough*) the traditional way with no hacks. Then you can scale up the game resolution using VirtualBox's virtual machine scaling mode to fit the destkop as you desire. Easier than pie and less bothersome than my old work arounds... but I digress. Just see the pic. http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4869/swrebellion.png
  6. viewtopic.php?p=546514&sid=4a941128ef10665354a07d6b1ac99857#p546514 I had posted this previously, but I prefer to use Virtualbox. You can install XP 32-bit and install Rebellion normally, then simply use the scaling mode of the virtual machine to size it up to resolution you desire. http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4869/swrebellion.png
  7. If you want to skip the bs and learn to use Virtualbox you can go that route. Virtualbox is a free download, you will need a copy of 32-bit Windows XP though. Consult the many guides through google on how to setup Virtualbox and a guest os. Once you have it installed you can run rebellion inside the virtual os, the upside to this approach is you can run the virtual os in scaling mode. Result looks like this: http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4869/swrebellion.png
  8. Daemon tools works great if you have a properly ripped .iso, if your cd was scratched beforehand, well... consult the dark corners of the Internet. You can also follow the setup directions in the Windows Vista/7 Compatibility thread and offload all the cd contents to hard drive, merge the custom registry file, and use my custom 1.02 rebellion executable. The game will then be playable without the CD, but you will need a CD to install the game. The game actually seems far more stable will all contents on hard drive, fewer rebexe.exe so it is the way to go imo.
  9. It is in the most recent archive file you download in the x64 installer package thread. Extract archive, follow directions, right-click on the *.reg file type and Windows will recognize it and the "merge" option will appear in the standard right-click menu operations.
  10. In semi-related and seemingly more interesting news... Carrie Fisher admits to snorting cocaine on the set of The Empire Strikes Back. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.656da7e054abfd32af35ccd9e46c1fc5.221&show_article=1
  11. Are you using the Reloaded mod for Rebellion, or original game? Read the directions carefully and ensure you've copied all files to the right directories and merged the correct registry entries. Problems with the movie data files may indicate lack of a decoder in the application path, check for smack32.dll to be in \Program Files(x86)\Star Wars Rebellion\ or for Reloaded, in \Program Files(x86)\Star Wars Reloaded\ ...

  13. So I had never heard of the previous installment of this series until reading about the upcoming release of Red Harvest... from what I gather these books have been deemed expanded universe canon worthy and feature a virus with zombie like qualities... Yes, you read right, zombie Star Wars is now canon... WTF?! http://www.toplessrobot.com/2010/09/topic_discussion_zombie_jedi.php http://www.starwars.com/vault/books/redharvest/index.html http://www.starwars.com/vault/books/news20091016/index.html http://www.starwars.com/vault/books/redharvest/redharvest_img.jpg
  14. People actually watch this show? It's not as cringe worthy as Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman reading original George Lucas dialog but it's pretty bad. Though to its credit, it sometimes looks a bit more realistic than even EPII or EPIII. I was watching bits of EPI/II/III on Spike HD a while back and noticed how so many more scenes of EPI used partially real elements, my mouth was hung opening remembering what footprints or the pods crashing into sand looked like... mind you compare any of the EPII or EPIII droid battles and see how flat the surface is and nothing is ever disturbed, footprints, tracks, dreary boring mono tone textures.
  15. I haven't looked at that new editor closely but if it relies on .Net framework to operate, then you may need to update your machine to the newest versions which are 3.5 & 4 as I recall. Typically, those types of unhandled exceptions are frequent when an application calling a .Net component cannot find it.
  16. So you running it on host system and/or Virtual PC? For host Vista, you might want to try updating to latest vendor drivers. Also, try disabling Aero interface. The performance is laggy in Vista primarily to relying on older d3drm.dll that was deprecated so no native version exists. Combine a weak graphics subsystem (your specs? Intel IGP?), crap drivers, Areo rendering, and API calls through deprecated DLLs something is bound to be amiss. Also, try replacing Virtual PC with Virtualbox (virtualbox.org) as it has better hardware acceleration options. Note to install proper 3d support you must boot the guest OS to safe mode and install virtualbox guest additions (w/ experimental 3d support option checked), then reboot guest to normal operation, and configure 3d enabled support in the machine profile in the Virtualbox settings on the host.
  17. Video game villain? He's not even a half decent movie villain unless the Star Wars universe starts and ends solely within the confines of A New Hope. He's a total badass in ANH with no Emperor to show him up, but in tESB we see his boss and learn he's working an angle to get back in touch with his estranged son. He concocts an elaborate scheme that could contend with greatest of bond villains to lure Luke to cloud city, where Vader reveals himself as an evil gypsy conman looking to overthrow his boss with Luke's help. By the time RotJ has ended he's come full circle and redeemed himself, and then let's just forget even mentioning the prequels which took our beloved ANH badass and turned him forever into a whinny sissy brat boy.
  18. http://store.steampowered.com/sub/4593/ Unfortunately it doesn't include Rebellion, but a nice package of old Star Wars titles for a low price. Today only (Sept. 17), Star Wars Battlefront II is 75% off at $5 > http://store.steampowered.com/app/6060/
  19. I'm fairly certain it works from time to time for outer rim planets as well. You will notice the planet icon change color to indicate the loyalty but have solid resource bars and no specific data, follow that up with a scout ship visit or espionage/recon mission to the planet.
  20. Espionage missions... occasionally they return intelligence from other systems as a bonus, so leave a nearby enemy system unconquered and spam characters or special units on espionage missions. You will have accurate positioning on characters, units, fleets in a short time.
  21. They work better in pairs, put them on a joint mission by selecting both characters then mission, assign both as agents with no decoys. Research will be slightly faster.

  23. Well anything to simplify the process. I was thinking of having a primary system finder menu, varying options on how to sort, alphabetical by system name, sort by sector then by name, or custom sort (drag system name icon to order systems to preference in menu). From there, when you hover a particular system name, a submenu rolls out to the side, this menu would quickly collapse back to the main system finder menu when the mouse focus leaves the panel. Within the submenu, provide a row of tabs at the top for characters, troops, ships, structures, production. This type of system would bring all the available system windows into a single menu system for faster logical access. For navigating the submenu, support for mouse button 4/5 and left/right arrows on keyboard could also allow faster system scrolling. I borrow this design concept from Birth of the Federation which is the equivalent of Rebellion from the Star Trek gaming catalog.

  25. I kind of like the free floating window design, of course I would have to actually try his implementation of it for a proper assessment. If the right quick minimize features, drag to smart dock on screen, or turn mouse wheel on window title bar to collapse window (*nix) and leave bar on screen. I'd like the idea of the dockable menus so that the interface could be customized to users preference and display resolution. This design route would have to functionally superior to classic Rebellion though because that GUI did suck. Ex. A dockable main menu system for Build Dialog that would list systems controlled by player, click or hover desired system and either (1) a scrollout submenu that so long as remained focus of the mouse actions would remain expanded and then collapse back into main dock, or (2) open a separate window with a quick minimize feature such as an action by clicking the mouse again outside of the window's focus. The main menu could then hide an optional auto-hide feature similar to ones in many applications, when you move the mouse near the trigger area of the screen, it reappears again. Also, preferable that these menus could be freely docked for player's preference. Style wise, your current system is top-notch, coming from a LXDE desktop environment it feels very familiar already. I prefer the simplistic approach and do not waste precious development time on GUI aesthetics that only you or a few people may end up liking. Focus on the content and have the main body of the game application be the star backdrop and galactic map functioning more as a dynamic wallpaper than a game, then if you customize a plug-in interface to the application to allow external applications, or a bash terminal so I can run irssi during multiplayer... or at least supported windowed application mode, or that would be preferred default for me at least... I did get out on a rambling tangent again, you're probably not even making this for Linux but be nice if it was OpenGL and cross platform... but one can dream! Oh Rebellion II, Where oust you!
