I bought it (pc) and I beat it

But if anyone is cheap about their money, I recommend you don't buy it.

For starters, they screwed up history in a few places (not as bad as episode 2 though) like moving the Mandalorian Wars 35 years after Exar Kun's Sith War, and then they made another "Great Sith War" two years after the Mandalorian Wars.

But they actually didn't change the GUI much at all either -- it plays pretty much like an Xbox port.

Did I mention it's very linear? Nothing at all like Morrowind.

p.s. can't believe we didn't have a KotOR forum before :D

haha I'm cheap with my money. /me goes to borrow it from a friend

I plan to play it for the storyline value, but I'm not a big RPG fan. So I doubt I'd play it more than once.

Borrowing it from a friend is a great idea (I'm exchanging it for another upcoming game myself) -- I would've done it if I could.

Once you play it you will be glad you didn't spend $50 on it -- there is only one playable race, all the characters look alike, and worst of all they don't even have Sabacc (they got some blackjack ripoff called Pazaak).

Also try not to get too mad at BioWare for ruining the continuity. They did have some nice excuses after all:

The reason people use melee weapons is because they cut through energy shields. Energy shields protect you from blaster fire (heh, you'd think a person would instantly die without one too, eh?). Interestingly enough, during this time all melee weapons are made with cortosis (and from this we can assume so is all the armor).

Here's a tip for anyone who plays it, concentrate on melee abilities, ignore the ranged and armor for your main character -- armor is worthless in the game as you can't cast most the force powers with it, and ranged is useless once you get a lightsaber (that incidentally can't chop people up).

Dunno, I got it after xmas and I just loved it :D

The story's great, like all the numerous side-quests. And I didn't mind, that they had another couple of Siths terrorizing the galaxy, about 35 years after Exar Kun's defeat. There were always dark jedi, who could travel to Korriban and learn a thing or two from the ghosts there

Ok, some things were a bit 'open to discussion', like when that one guy told Carth, that he'd just seen his boy on Korriban at the local Sith academy. I didn't think that such a smart move in terms of the storyline, but I can't complain about the graphics, or the way the planets were made.

Also I had to laugh when I tried out the different outcomings of the discussion with Bastila in the Ebon Hawk's crew cabin. One time it was the other time around and she told my character to shut up and kiss her

Also at the end I had to reload about 3 times before she could be turned from the dark side and didn't have to be slain ... women

Yeah, when the evidence about the shrouded past seemed to harden I thought "what, he was with the Sith before ?". I didn't really think of R. cause you see his body in the cutscenes.

True to Dune I wouldn't have counted him off, without seeing the "dead" body

The cortorsis weapons, armor, everything really cheesed me off.

They just didn't want to try to model your lightsaber ripping opponent's swords in half.

The combat system is.... clunky compared to Jedi Academy. It plays much more like a board game than a video game in this respect (some may like that... I had mixed feelings)

I found the energy shields to be useless.

Shooting down starfighters is just a pain... no fun there. A friend even got a cheat so he didn't have to do it (he also gave his character base 20 everything.... I guess he really likes to win big).

The most fun is the story line and the new creatures. Lots of new fishies in the sea ;)

So it has the replayability of -eh-. You know now the plot twist, and you've met all the fun fishies...

Anyone play as a dark jedi? I didn't have the heart the first time, and am curious what it's like.

Academy is FUN as a dark jedi, in case anyone hasn't tried that yet.

What are you talking about? Academy is the same either way! It really makes very little difference!

KOTOR is highly replayable! Did you get every quest perfect the first time round? Don't you want those extra force skills? Don't you want to try it with horror and lightning and all the funky dark side powers.

They tried to balance it with cortosis. And it worked. The game is just a glorified Star Wars version of D&D, so of course it'll play like a boardgame, that's what it is!

I loved it. I would go and play it now, except i'm at work and my Xbox is back in my room!

There are some differences in cut scenes, and the end is different (as te dark side you fight everybody... much fun).

>KOTOR is highly replayable! Did you get every quest perfect the first >time round?

Pretty much. I didn't complete the assassin quests, but that's because the game kicked in and started destroying planets.

I also didn't complete one task because the Wookies started revolting...

>Don't you want those extra force skills? Don't you want to try it with >horror and lightning and all the funky dark side powers.

I balanced my character with both light and dark, and you get to experience the other powers with your other characters (I had a lvl 2 soldier, lvl 18 jedi... forget which type. I just never level'd up unless I had to before becoming a jedi. I'm a Baldur's Gate vet ;) )

>They tried to balance it with cortosis. And it worked.

I dunno... they could have made opponents better fighters, better armored, or more numerous instead. Or at the very least, EXPLAIN why there was so much cortosis, and what happened to it... I was left thinking "well, maybe in 4000 years the Jedi confiscated it all..?"

>The game is just a glorified Star Wars version of D&D, so of course it'll >play like a boardgame, that's what it is!

My reflexes are not great, so I admit I appreciated not having to rely on them. However, fights could get to be a little dull as a result...

>I loved it. I would go and play it now, except i'm at work and my Xbox >is back in my room

I am happy I bought it, and enjoyed it the one time I played it. But I don't see myself going back to it for another month or so... It was definately not in my list of top 3 SW games.

Not advancing through the soldier levels ? 8O Doh ! I could've had a level 19 Jedi ...

Well, he was still deadly with his special gems in the double saber and force powers, like that shockwave thingy.

It did unsettle me, that I couldn't seem to win the pod race on that water planet, after I was king of the hill on all the others, but apart from that, the one Wookie quest and the assassination quests I also completed them all.

Elvis, what extra powers do you mean ? I didn't read of any, that could be "unlocked". Or do you mean those of the other Force-side ?

JI, I think they didn't screw up the time of the Mandolorian wars. The way I got it was, that they had been over a few years before the game starts. Even with the StarForge Revan and Malak would've needed some time to produce so many ships and take over the planets.

The second Sith war is definately non-canon, as far as the story's been written yet

Changing the game's timeframe to that of Exar Kun's Sith war would have been better in my opinion.

I loved it. By far the best SW game ever. And as far as continuity is concerned? Lucas has ruined the prequel trilogy and riddled it with errors and contradictions that who knows what took place when anymore. Any way, most SW games don't take continuity into account (Supremacy for example. You build Dark Troopers, but in Dark Forces, The Arc Hammer is destroyed. Rebel Assault is another good one, there definately not a Rebel Base down Beggars Canyon, need i go on?). Sure its Linear, but thats needed. RPGs suffer from this alot. The more Linear, the deeper and more complex a story will be (The player will be here at this time, and here the next). I think KotOR would have better been described as an Action\Adventure laced with heavy RPG elements, but not a through and through RPG.

Anyways, I recommend this to any true SW fan (you guys will already have it anyway) for the storyline on its on. Hardcore SW fans will be disappionted due to errors in the timeline, but theres worse things to worry about, like how George is gonna screw up EpIII (I wanna see what EpVII+ are gonna be like! Hopefully really dark...). RPG fans will either love it or hate it. Everyone else, try it. Its brilliant!!

Phew!!

Nothing to add here, except that, Rebellion starts right after the battle of Yavin, but the Arc Hammer is destroyed a bit later and as far as I can remember, the base in Rebel Assault 1 doesn't need to be in Beggar's Cannyon, although it is never explained where it is exactly.

Yeah I played as a Dark Jedi, but only after i discovered i was R. You got into loads of fights, really. And stole rather than be given. The ending was pretty cool though. Whats the light side like?? I didn't like the way you chose what to do at the end (light\dark side). It should have used the aura effect far more. If it was near-neutral, you chose, but if it was too far gone either way, it is automatic. Defined by your actions earlier on in the game.

Oh and on that fish planet, who finished that 'Secret Society of Assassins' (they had a weird name i cant remember). You had to kill four people. I couldn't find them all (killed two i think) One was ment to be out in the desert on tatooine but i couldnt find him. Just wanted to know what happened (the reward, the cutscene if any) PM me if you can

Well, on the light side, you first have to fight against Bastila. Although somewhere along you can stop her, by argumenting, that the light side would be the only way and also that your character loves her, based on if you had that little encounter on the Ebon Hawk before.

After you defeat/persuade her you battle Malak and he can be brought back to the light as well, just before he dies.

The end sequence was not bad either, but it could've been more. I have to see, what the dark side is like some day.

That Rodian on Manaan ? I haven't played this mission, cause I feared I would lose my light-side points and Bastila would get even pickier about my methods. But I read, that you can get special weapons and armor from them. At least they're in the game's item codes

Well, Dark Side, you bring Bastila over to you, as your student. You slaughter the two other Jedi in your party. On returning to the Ebon Hawk, whats his name (the Republican Soldier guy) runs off, and you kill the wookie and the twilek girl. So all thats left is you, the two droids, and Bastila. You then battle through, persuading some Jedi your on their side still, Bastila leaves you at the Control room, and uses her Battle Meditation for the Sith, NOT the Republic. You then go kill Malak, and before he dies he realises you are the real Sith Lord, and he should never have betrayed you.

Yeah, the Rodian. Thats the one. I think you got something for every kill, then you should recieve a big reward (as in a special weapon) at the end. You were right not to do it, you recieved Dark Side points for each kill.

Another thing: Whats peoples theories on what happened to Malaks jaw??
