Mad78 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 A small attempt to revive this part of the forum. What online games do you play and what type do you prefer. I don't really play MMORPGs, don't have the patience.I've been playing Battlefield 2 for quite some time but recently I picked up the free game Battlefield Heroes which I must say is highly entertaining and recommendable. My main question actually is, has anyone ever played Eve Online. I have always been intrigued by that game and was wonder how it is- http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
Master_Xan Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Back in the day, I used to play a free MMORPG called Tibia. It was thence that I discovered: I am not allowed to play MMORPGs. After much toil and many years, I finally broke my addiction to that game. Ironic, considering it has terrible graphics (even in it's day!) and no sound... I've played Guild Wars as well, and found it a good alternative to the monthly costs. Unfortunately, it has a different focus than my play style; I prefer my MMORPG experience to have the option of solo play with group interaction when I want, which just isn't possible in Guild Wars once you advance beyond a certain point (the game's difficulty continues to increase, even after the player reaches the level cap of 20). Eve online also seems interesting to me, but I haven't gotten it out of fear that I would like it... too much. Similarly, I've never played World of Warcraft, even when my roommate last year offered to let me use his account. I don't play many other games online. The only one recently has been Call of Duty 4 (Modern Warfare). Very fun. I do play various games in LANs with friends and roommates though... Supreme Commander, SWBattlefront 2, Sword of the Stars, CoD 4, Battle for Middle Earth 2, Starcraft, Age of Empires 2, Civ 4... Star Wars: Rebellion, A Field Manual"O be wise, what can I say more?"
SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted September 17, 2009 SWR Staff - Executive Posted September 17, 2009 On MMOs: From what I hear, Eve Online is a lot of grinding (though you could say any MMO is the same, they want you to get addicted). I am interested in Jumpgate Evolution - seems to be focused more on the combat. Also looking into Aion - which is another Korean MMORPG in the vein of Lineage II. The graphics look amazinghttp://www.aiononline.com/I don't know whether I want to suck a $15 monthly subscription into it though. Of course, SW:TOR (The Old Republic) from Bioware looks really exciting. I really hope the rumors are true and they go with a micro-transactions to fund the game. But I'm pretty sure they will stick with a standard subscription model SW:TOR is the one I'll suck money into if given 1 choice. ----------- I don't really play much online otherwise. I hope Starcraft 2 ends up being good, but I play more for the single-player story than any kind of competitive multiplayer. Starcraft 1 is still fun for the occasional LAN party. DarthTofu Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 No MMORPGs for me; I don' want to get addicted. Freaking Runescape came far too close to hooking me back in the day; I'm not going to risk something like WoW. I play TF2 and L4D online. I might break out the Civ IV at some point, but not until I get a whole lot better at it. I have Age of Empires 2, but I haven't actually played it- somebody gave me a free copy a while back during Fast Track Calculus, and I haven't had time/the desire to test it out. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Master_Xan Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Strategy games, for me, go in this order of awesomeness:3) Age of Empires 22) Starcraft1) Supreme Commander FA (this game is good, but the expansion is amazing)I have really high hopes for Starcraft 2 though... Civ 4 is pretty fun with people, trick is finding somebody to play with you. Friends work way better than online because then you can put it down and pick it back up later. It is, after all, a super-long game. Runescape! I remember that game... some of my buddies played it religiously for awhile. I was much too busy with Tibia at the time to care though. Mad78 Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 The main things which have stopped me really getting into MMORPGs are as follows: 1) Monthly Subscriptions: I thoroughly hate the concept. I don't want to buy a game and then have to continue paying to play. Especially if I end up not liking it. 2) The time it takes to get up in levels. Too many times have i tried a free MMORPG only to get quickly bored because I was constantly asked to kill so many monsters of a certain kind. I get the fact that you can't expect to have level ups all the time and that these games aren't for the casual player but still. In the end its that. The games aren't for a casual player. Its rather hard to pick one up and play it for a bit and then give it up. They expect you to play it ALL THE FREAKING TIME! Still I hope that SW:TOR will take an approach similar to Guild Wars in which case I may pick it up and play it for a bit. Otherwise for non-MMORPGs, I repicked up BF2 today but realised that I've gotten a little rusty and just remember how long it took me to be able to survive long enough to score a frag. Though I must say Battlefield Heroes is much better for that kind of thing and actually, in the end, nearly more fun to play. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
budious Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 www.planetarion.com purely html, turn based mmo strategy... basically just a reason to hang out on irc and talk about other shit between turns... Mad78 Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 Is it pretty much like Ogame? http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
budious Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Never played Ogame but looking at the website it actually has graphics or an interface of some type (flash?)... planetarion is just like playing with an spreadsheet calculator but making a game out of it. Your ships are imaginary and represented by stats, I guess you could draw your own interpretive pictures on napkins if you're bored... Krytos Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I'm not a fan of pay to play either. I get why they do it, but it's still a pain in the arse. I hope someone comes up with a better idea for such games. 'Till then I only really play FPS multiplayer so I can play a short game or a long one. Use to play CSS, but havnt for a while, and even when I did it was only fun when you found a good server without 12 year old annoyances. TF2 is pretty cool, but havnt had time to play it much. I've been tempted to play some Kane's Wrath multiplayer of recent, but you'd need a fair bit of time free for that one. http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif

But since they upgrade the interface quite often it may have passed to flash since the last time i played. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
DarthTex Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 My main question actually is, has anyone ever played Eve Online. I have always been intrigued by that game and was wonder how it is-Try contacting Def, he mentioned he was heavy into it (hence his "not" being here). Of course since he's "not" here, it could take some time for him to read this and answer . E-mail would be best. Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! What?? What do you mean "there's only two of us"?
