Lightrunner Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I'm trying to get Rebellion to work on Windows 7. I am pretty sure I did everything that was needed to get it to run in Vista, but it's still not installing. Does anybody have any ideas why it's not working?
0 Slocket Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 http://www.swrebellion.com/wiki/Rebellion:Windows_Vista Have you seen this wiki? It is for Vista. There is a dll you must have, and other things. I wonder if you can install Virtual machine to emulate the old operating systems on Win7. I am pretty sure I did everything that was needed to get it to run in Vista, but it's still not installing. OK you mean you tried the above Vista fixes under Win 7 and they did not work? Then I seen this around the Web: Yes, it should be backwards compatible. Some games may require tweaks or adjustments here and there, and assumably anything more recent will release them in due time. If you do Professional or up, at the worst there's the XP Mode add-on you should be able to use. But in most scenarios people are pleased with games on Windows 7 and don't encounter big compatibility issues. Some people claim there is an addon for Win7 to make an Win XP mode, which many times will run Rebellion. I have native Win XP 32 and it works fine.
0 SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted August 2, 2009 SWR Staff - Executive Posted August 2, 2009 That's not just a claim - it is fact. There is an Windows XP mode you can use with Windows 7 Professional (and higher) to run Windows XP applications. I don't know how well it handles Rebellion, since I expect it would need some kind of DirectX support. But if you can get it to run in other virtual machines, XP mode should work too. 0 Master_Xan Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Is the Win7 RC currently out considered Ultimate, Professional, or Home Premium? i.e. does it contain the XP mode or not? Star Wars: Rebellion, A Field Manual"O be wise, what can I say more?"
0 SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted August 2, 2009 SWR Staff - Executive Posted August 2, 2009 The RC is the full Ultimate package. You'll need to download two packages from Microsoft to get it working on the RChttp://www.winsupersite.com/win7/xp_mode_beta.asp Evaders99http://swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif Webmasterhttp://swrebellion.com/images/banners/swcicuserbar.png Administrator Fighting is terrible, but not as terrible as losing the will to fight.- SW:Rebellion Network - Evaders Squadron Coding -The cake is a lie.

0 budious Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Just make sure when your done to drag rebellion over to the trash where it belongs... Good to see that there is at least a workaround on Microsoft's part for Windows 7 and older application compatibility, though not a proper one. 0 Mithious Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 (edited) I'm playing Rebellion (or in my case Supremacy) on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit RTM with no problems (and not using XP mode). What I did is as follows: 1. Copy everything from INSIDE the Rebellion (or Supremacy) folder on the CD to "C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion"Important: Do not copy the Rebellion folder itself, copy everything inside it. You will need to create the 'LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion' folders yourself. Make sure they are spelled correctly.2. Download the file in the first post at: http://www.swrebellion.com/forums/postt3937.html3. Extract the downloaded file.3. Right click the Rebellion_x64.reg file and click merge. (If your program files is on a different drive you'll need to edit this reg file)4. Copy the files d3drm.dll and REBEXE.exe to "C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion"5. Create a folder called "SaveGame"6. Run the game (REBEXE.exe) as an administrator. Everything worked for me first time. I have the problem where I can't skip the briefing but the space battles seem to work fine. Note that I've only played the game for a few minutes before posting this so I may run into problems later. 0 Mithious Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Update: I've played for about 5 hours or so and it's all working fine. I cannot run it in Windowed mode as the drop downs for selecting different missions or consturction options don't work (clicking the button does nothing). Fullscreen seems to be fine though.

0 Master_Xan Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 I get Win7 for free through my college. I even get to pick 32 or 64 bit (or both) Star Wars: Rebellion, A Field Manual"O be wise, what can I say more?"
0 SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted October 27, 2009 SWR Staff - Executive Posted October 27, 2009 MSNDAA is a beautiful thing... hey you already paid tuition, might as well get your money's worth.TechNet is even better - nearly every Microsoft product ever created... but it's a lot more costly and meant for developers Been running Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 beta, RC, RTM over the last year, no issues. 0 Master_Xan Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 I think we get just about everything for free that a fellow could ask for: Visual Basic, Win7, various development software... 0 armyofsephiroth Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Hi I am new to the site and just picked up playing Rebellion again after not playing it since a year or two after it orinially came out. I am having the same problem as bidou_95. After following the directions it loads a black screen right away and never changes. The computer is frozen but nothing happens with the Rebellion Program. T.T I am having a similar problem with trying to find a workaround for installing Tie Fighter again as well. Does anyone have any advise on a work around for installing these older but great games on 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate?
0 budious Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I haven't tested the game myself in Windows 7, perhaps if I get an account on my university's MSDNAA again sometime soon. I have a copy of 2008 R2 from dreamspark so I could give it a try on that. However, it's quite possible the old d3drm.dll import is not going to work natively under Windows 7 anymore. You may have to try XP mode or running the game in a separate virtual machine with an older client OS such as XP. Technically speaking, much changed below the hood with Windows 7. The legacy .dll names that originally held many of the API call methods now only contain pointers to new files containing the actual code. This should be transparent to the application making the API call in theory, but older APIs may have been deprecated further. Such was the case with d3drm.dll support being removed completely from Vista, though at the time, importing the file from XP still appeared to be a viable option with exception to being a bit buggy and slow at times. Of course, according to Mithious, everything still works fine so I'll take his work on it for now.viewtopic.php?p=542563#p542563 "In the future it will become easier for old negatives to become lost and be 'replaced' by new altered negatives. 0 diadevil Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 I have a problem with copying the files from the CD ("CD":\Rebellion). System Windows 7 64Bit When I copy the MDATA-folder my PC starts to copy and say this folder has a size of 12GB (???CD???).Mkay, now my PC starts to copy and copy and copy and copy... and after a while do nothing, but the copywindow is still open. When I stop the copying than, no file is in the new folder?! I can start the game, but then I get the errormessage that the MDATA.000 is missing and so on^^Has somebody a idea what I can do?
0 Slocket Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I seen some one else with that problem. You can get the files from a buddy, or just copy the Mdata.00* manually from the CD into your directory as if it is a full install. First, can you copy your Mdata.001 from your CD to your hard drive? I guess not . Else, use the *** off the net, it does not look at the Mdata files that reason and will play without the cutscenes. Third, make Smaker videos of the MDATA files from the AVI's off YouTube. Sometimes I think the program is looking for the MDATA files in the wrong place. It is an old game, and maybe it needs to be in the first drive letter of a cdrom attached to your machine.
0 plasmatic5 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Hi, i'm trying to get this to run on Windows 7, and I've done everything so far. But of course, i've run into a problem. When i try to run REBEXE, it tells me i'm missing smackw32.dll. Has anyone else had this problem?
