SOCL
Maybe it's not the right place, but I can't imagine where else it would go. Any how... I was looking at my profile (don't ask) and I noticed that I am subscribed to the SWR.Net (hmm...maybe the site should now be known as SWRN) newsletter. I sat there for a second...or two...or longer, and thought, "Mmm...pineapples--I mean, I am?" Okay, the point is, I'm sure most of us are subscribed to the newsletter, but we don't recieve one. Should maybe someone undertake that task, perhaps a committee be appoint/elected to due such? I mean, it would be interesting to recieve some news on the site via e-mail for those of us who don't visit the site everyday (though I'm sure anyone subscribed to the newsletter does). I mean, it would include what new downloads, some of the community events (like the TC projects and such), some news on our progress to get the sourcecode, and even some fan things. For example, the fan section could include fanfics, fanart, and even news from the forums that includes updates on important discussions and the RPG (our Zoot RPG, even). Well, I just thought I'd point out the newsletter thing, ask why we don't have one, and throw out a few suggestions. And, for the fun of it, let's have a poll! Trejiuvanat
Indeed, the Newsletter could serve to remind the users what's going on with the site, because most of the registered users just registered to download some cards and never checked the site again... With New models and the TC in progress an active SWR.N-NL (swrebellion.net Newsletter) would certainly help... http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif

Jahled
I think it's a brilliant idea, especially concerning the issues addressed by SOCL. We have just over 2000 members, but only a small few who get their paws gritty posting, discussing things, or just plain being wacky. The newsletter could be a very easy way to get alot more people actively involved in the site, or by simply renewing interest in comming back here and getting involved again. At it's most basic, it could be a simple summary of what's new, as SOCL said, cards, downloads, models, etc; suddenly hitting the inboxes of the 2000 members of swrebellion. I'm sure Evaders would be aware of the increase in hits to the site as folks make their return... which surely would enable Evaders and Igor to sell advertising space...and make some money! If anyone could be bothered, and i'm sure there certainly are people amongst us who could, from this basic newsletter, it could include what's going on in the forums; the currant hot topics, the RPGs, etc; and even general Star Wars stuff. I think it's a very good idea. I look forward to reading issue one very shortly, and seeing the return of lots of old faces. http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
Guest Scathane
Depends... It all sounds nice but issuing a newsletter means that we should have regular news to fill it with. This may sound easy but in reality isn't so. I must admit, though, that it sounds as a nice way to get more people involved in our community... SOCL
Depends... It all sounds nice but issuing a newsletter means that we should have regular news to fill it with. This may sound easy but in reality isn't so.A good point. I was thinking that the newsletter would only be sent out once a month...or so. Then, as the site (hopefully) gets larger, we'll get more news (while stealing some from other rival SW sites ). The only thing is that the newsletter would be time-consuming and someone or someones who have time would have to do it.... Jahled
Registered Jojo! Scathe, a summary of one month's activity hitting 2000 inboxes shouldn't be to hard, time-consuming, or far out for us to achieve! Think of the sudden influx of existing members suddenly remembering where their true souls lie...heck, even JediIgor! Given we have at least one hand raised to contribute, you web-site fiends should at least 'discuss this in the pit.' A brilliant way to draw back existing members at least... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif

BoShek
Newsletter ? Hmm, depends on what´s in it. It would be neat to get a rundown of the discussions happening in the forum or receive word that new downloads are available. Question is: Is it worth the effort to compile it when everyone can just go to the forums or download sections ? Here goes nothing! - Lando

Question is: Is it worth the effort to compile it when everyone can just go to the forums or download sections ? A very good point indeed. If we were to initiate a newsletter, it would have to provide a substantial benefit to registered members or a substantial added value to the website to be worth the effort... Trejiuvanat
A joint effort of the SWRNN and Hutt Illustrated, perhaps? A monthly Newsletter could provide info on new downloads, new cards, TC progress, and perhaps links to some of the discussions in the forums. The most popular of each months, etc. Out of our 2000+ members less than 5% is a regular user of the forums, I even dare to say that at most 10% will be checking the site regularly. The Newsletter doesn't have to be that flashy, it shouldn't be that hard to do one.. http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif
Guest Scathane
Which, I must admit, is a good point indeed as well. You're saying then, that on of the newsletter's initial purposes, could be to alert more registered members to the website?
the_mask
Mmhmm, cause right now the echo in here is pretty loud Btw, about the links you suggested to provide: has it happened to anyone else, that if you click on one such link that you just get a "need to login" page, even if you're already logged in ? I've had this with IE 6, NS 7.1 and Opera 7 http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Trejiuvanat
Yes, it has happened to me.. All of the Post replay reports, I get in my mail actually, that's why I shut them off. Jahled
Cool! So i'm not alone in being confused about this one. Guest Scathane
It happens to me every now and again but not a lot; all topic reply notifications I click in my mailbox normally take me right to the message in question.
