Rebellion problem

Question

Well, I'm not a newbie, but this is seems to be the best place for my question.

I used to play rebellion alot, then I upgraded my system to win 2000. I wanted to play it again so i installed it, and got the message:

"The application of DLL f:\rebellion\textcomm.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

I'm guessing it doesn't like Win 2000, is this the problem and can I get around it?

btw - I already installed the patch thats listed on this site,

Thanks for any help you can give, Rob

oh yeah, after I hit ok on that message, it just loads to a black screen, and I must restart or log off and log back on, It's not listed in the task manager to end task it

Hi,

I ran Rebellion under 2k for almost a year without any problems. Try the original dll from your Rebellion cd and if that doesn't help, I'd try reinstalling the game, if you didn't do that already. Did you alter that dll in any way, for example editing it with Resource Hacker and then running RebED, or Rebellion, while the file was still open in Resource Hacker ?

Hope this helps ya :D

I guess that should have been the first thing i tried, but after reinstalling it i still get the same issue, i don't have any of the modifying programs set up, just a straight install. Oh and I made a typo with the error message, it should be "The application OR DLL file...."

From what I gather its telling me it doesn't like the file thats actually on the cd, (F: is my cd-rom).

Stupid comuter... I really wanted to play rebellion

Do you have the last drivers of your graphic card?. In win98, i had a problem playing Rebellion, until i installed the driver of my graphic card to play !Diablo 2!. After that all things go well. (but never play Diablo 2 if i have Rebellion :D )

I also have win2000 but is works fine don't have any problems with it.

It could be that win2000 isn't correctly installed or that are missing drive space.

If notting works reinstall your computer. It might work.

Perhaps your CD drive is just faulty.. or the CD itself is scratched.
