Fynbos Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 1) I remember a thread that said, that the names of the ships in the whatever_ship.txt's arent used in all gameplaymodes. They wouldnt be used in skirmish, but in GC, or vice versa...Anyone remember where they are used? 2) When I would want to add another unit to that list, a new textfiles so to speak, do I just have to put the unit_name in, same style like the existing ones?Or isnt it possible to add other unis? thanks, I am am away from my FoC PC (hotel), so I cannot check, but want to finish this coding here.Merci. to Bria Tharen! http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/7831/ueawsig4mu9.pnghttp://www.vereinte-nationen.de/german.gif Ich spreche auch Deutsch.

HK-47 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Look, I don't know if this will really help you, but in GameConstants.xml, I found the following code: <!-- Files for custom ship names --> <ShipNameTextFiles> Calamari_Cruiser, Data\Calamari_Cruiser.txt, Generic_Star_Destroyer, Data\Star_Destroyer.txt, Star_Destroyer, Data\Star_Destroyer.txt, Star_Destroyer_Tractor_Fighters, Data\Star_Destroyer.txt, Corellian_Corvette, Data\Corellian_Corvette.txt, Corellian_Gunboat, Data\Corellian_Gunboat.txt, Broadside_Class_Cruiser, Data\Broadside_Class_Cruiser.txt, Marauder_Missile_Cruiser, Data\Marauder_Missile_Cruiser.txt, Nebulon_B_Frigate, Data\Nebulon_B_Frigate.txt, Alliance_Assault_Frigate, Data\Alliance_Assault_Frigate.txt, Victory_Destroyer_No_Fighters, Data\Victory_Destroyer.txt, Victory_Destroyer, Data\Victory_Destroyer.txt, Acclamator_Assault_Ship, Data\Acclamator_Assault_Ship.txt, Interdictor_Cruiser, Data\Interdictor_Cruiser.txt, Tartan_Patrol_Cruiser, Data\Tartan_Patrol_Cruiser.txt </ShipNameTextFiles> If you use this as model, I think it will work... I'm trying to make my Tartan Strike Cruisers have name, just creating a text file in Data in the same style as the game's ones, and do an entry in GameConstants; but I didn't test it yet.
HK-47 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I tested now... It doesn't work: the name line appears but instead of the name (yes, I made one txt file with the unit's name on it and put a lot of names in alphabetical order) a lot of *squares* appears... ???
Avenger Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Open one of the existing .txt file with ship's names, highlight all text, write your names and save with different file name. Sounds weird but works. It's probably a problem with character encoding.

Sound like wrong text editor.What did you use? to Bria Tharen! http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/7831/ueawsig4mu9.pnghttp://www.vereinte-nationen.de/german.gif Ich spreche auch Deutsch.
HK-47 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Fynbos, you're probably right! I need to use the WordPad, right?
Fynbos Posted February 2, 2007 Author Posted February 2, 2007 U need a texteditor, that does not change the raw textformatting into some weird windows formatting. Try the regular Windows Editor (wordpad does add weird formats) or some better program like this one:http://www.textpad.com/ Its a good program. to Bria Tharen! http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/7831/ueawsig4mu9.pnghttp://www.vereinte-nationen.de/german.gif Ich spreche auch Deutsch.
HK-47 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I was mistaken, I used this one.Thanks, Avenger! I did what I said and it worked (the copy of the Tartan Cruiser text file with the MKII in the name and the custom ship names)! ;D
Droid803 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Ify ou just copy an existing one, then rename it, the open it with NOTEPAD and edit it, its fine... Don't make a new txt though. And who needs all that fancy stuff? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/kc1991/droid803sig.jpg"That was fun"
Avenger Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Don't make a new txt though. And who needs all that fancy stuff?Me, I and myself for example I like individual ship names. "Hey, I didn't lost one unimportant ISD, I lost 'Avenger' "
HK-47 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Me too (if I didn't liked or needed, I wouldn't made an entire new txt file with custom names... and I wouldn't ask help on that )...I agree with you, Avenger... ;D
Droid803 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 well...true, then I guess we should add names for all the new FoC Ships... poor FoC ships, no new names. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/kc1991/droid803sig.jpg"That was fun"
Fynbos Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 Shall we do it togehter? Everyone does 2 or 3 types, 10 names each?Post it here, share it. to Bria Tharen! http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/7831/ueawsig4mu9.pnghttp://www.vereinte-nationen.de/german.gif Ich spreche auch Deutsch.
Droid803 Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 here's the list I cam up with going through th dictionary... HK-47 Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Hmm good names... If I have some time, I'll work in the names for MC30's and post in Public Code Bank...
dw333 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 you also need to add the 'ship.txt' name to 'moniker column' or something like that under the unit file (spacecapital.xml, etc), just look under capital for one of the default cap ships that have a txt file.
