hellangel666 Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 (edited) this is two questions in one.... Q 1: lets say i sent in a fleet and wanted it to hold off the assault untill another fleet came.... is this possiable in the full version? Q 2: also lets say i damaged every ship on the other side, yet i die and leave the other fleet a crippled mess. even though i have another fleet as reinforcements just SECONDS away i lose the battle..... now with the enemy fleet crippled and baddly need of overhaule, my other full fleet comes in for the kill. my question is if i have damaged a ship... will somthing need to be done to repair it? or will it go to max health right after the battle..... if it does just go to full health then you'd think question one would be kinda vitial.... thanks in advance Edited February 1, 2006 by Cain

Darksythe Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Though if its Rebels your fighting and you destroyed thier fighters then you dont have to worry about thier fighters just thier ships, exept if its a station then stations can launch unlimited number of Z95 Headhunters iirc. But no its a shame youcant manouver two fleet into one system, i.e. fleet 1 thier and fleet 2 follows close behind, like in Rebellion/Supremacy, which is a shame but oh well. http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/nexeus.png
Necro Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 just finish it off, like desdtroy a vsd, retreat, get reinforcements, and again etc. i'm hoping a mod will make it so it takes galactic days to fix ships.
Teradyn_pff Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 This is something that we would like, but I suspect that there is nothing to support that in the engine. My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png
hellangel666 Posted January 31, 2006 Author Posted January 31, 2006 ya. if theres no way of repairing in game.... moding won't help.... there is a limit to mods ability sad to say i've hit that many times......
Necro Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 depends your talking about pure xml modding what if they release the source code ;p
Darthscharnhorst2 Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Or maybe in the Expansion. Persistant Damage + Diplomacy + Unit exp + a few more units and maps = 29.99 more from me! ;D
Teradyn_pff Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Release the source code? Um, that isn't happening. Remember, Petroglyph wouldn't do that until the game is older than say 10 years or so if ever. Also, LA would have a say in that probably and they would NEVER let source code out. Imagine asking Microsoft for the source code to Windows 95. Hah, they would probably lose a few boardmembers to heartattacks from laughing too hard at that.... hmmm, actually maybe we should ask them for it, in that case... hellangel666 Posted February 1, 2006 Author Posted February 1, 2006 lol, the EaW fund rasing begins HERE! we can buy it off them edit: did i mention this will not happen? edit 2: this will not happen

Zer_Teron Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I doubt they will ever release the Source Code, not even Force Commander or Rebellion has had it released http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/3488/zersigef1.jpg
Teradyn_pff Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I know that there have been several requests for the source code to Rebellion and they have all been denied. Teradyn_pff Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 EU? What is EU? European Union? Who the heck turned that down? My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png
Necro Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 because they were trying to bribe us? instead of fixing the problems theyre just give us the source
Teradyn_pff Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Should have taken the source code as they obviously haven't had to fix the problems. My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png
Jameswgm Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 I've just been thinking about this, stupidly after I ordered the game! Many people are saying autorepair does not affect gameplay, I am certainly not a rookie RTS gamer, and I can't believe that it can only have a negative effect on gameplay. Maybe against the AI it will be fairly unnoticably... maybe, but how bad will it be in MP when it gets going? Say your opponent has skilfully trapped your fleet with an interdictor, outgunning your fleet significantly? It's Petroglyph's cliche "What would you do?" Is there actually any point in fighting, you may destroy some weaker ships, as a sensible player will realise that damaged ships will be restored to full health after the engagement and protect them. Please don't state the obvious: destroy the Interdictor. Who would give their opponent the chance to retreat as opposed to destroying their whole fleet. At least in Rebellion I could take away some small satisfaction that I had heavily damaged large capital ships and unless they retreated for lengthy repairs I would have the advantage in the next engagement. Surely this is no different to restoring full hit-points to units that win skirmishes in any other RTS like AOE3 or C&C? How much would that benefit those games? It is my opinion that games are being dumbed down, with very little depth (eg. the lack of diplomacy), and becoming more "console-orientated". Not intended as a flame against consoles, after all I own one, but when I buy a PC game I have come to expect details like formation settings and combat stance indicators. I don't want to have to keep having to micromanage units to prevent them from blindly following their own suicide missions (cough BFME 2!) Any first hand experience/reassurance would be great! James
Darthscharnhorst2 Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Any first hand experience/reassurance would be great! James Your concerns were very much in line with mine. EAW is at heart an RTS in the same vain as Command and Conquer. It is by no stretch of the imagination a strategy game like rebellion or even a simpler one like Rome Total War. If you think you will enjoy the battles, I wouldn't worry much and simply take the game for what it is. However, if you are expecting a Rebellion experience you will be disappointed with the lack of strategic depth and options. No diplomacy, persistant damage, hero death, or unit experience. I to miss the ability to damage ships and than follow up with an attack. I remember once in Rebellion *over 5 years ago* an alliance fleet beat me badly, killing an SSD, but I managed to damage the hyper drives of several of their ships. With great satisfaction I converged the might of the empire on their stricken fleet and had my revenge. I doubt I'll have any memorable experiences like that in EAW as ISD's take a few days to build and while they have names, there is no player attachment as they are easy to replace. Instead of building on the good of Rebellion by adding more player immersion like experience and victory lists, they chose to go the typical RTS route for mass indistinguishable units *exempting immortal heroes*. Forget about about hit and run tactics as there is no benefit to be had. Additionally, Planets are just as happy to be ruled by the empire as they are to be liberated by the Rebels. I think the mods will address some of these concerns but I doubt they will be able to turn EAW into something its not. For one, I'm pretty much ok with this as I can still enjoy some good Star Wars space battles and a quick "strategy light" experience. However, I doubt I will be playing this game a month from now *especially with galatic civilizations II coming out* unless the mods can work wonders.

If not the mods then hopefully an expansion will address these issues. How the hell can you have hit and run tactics if there is no persistent damage?
Lord Pickle Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Will there be a persistent damage model in the expansion? I know its early to be asking but if someone like Delphi-PG or another of the devs could say wether or not its being planned please let me know. It seems like a rather large omission and I talked to the guys at legacy of war and apprently they can't mod the code to include persistent damage. So it looks like an expansion is the only way. A thousand thank yous and one odd shaped donkey at Chirstmas for Delphi when he answers this.
