Seee EAW: Warlord Mod "Zaarin" from here:

At least I managed to add a new one (a third) in my last mod and I suspect that we will have at least 4-5 factions in the official game. the good thing is that a Warlords Mod is 100% possible.

The EAW coding is super cool and the engine super stabile. It only crashes when you are missing files and usually not when you make errors. If you make an error that segment will just vanish from the game. Damage a unit line ? No more unit on that planet ;) but no cTD (crash to desktop)

the big question is if we can get this working in muiltplayer

a 3 or 4 way ffa for the galaxy seems so sexy

This is something that allot of people would like, especially modders with more than 2 factions in their selected stories.  Unfortunately, the way that multiplayer communication is handled and the way that the galaxy is set up, this may prove to be impossible.

This is something that I really wish Petroglyph could look into as far as whether there is anything that modders can do to enable at least 1 more multiplayer presence in the galactic mode.  In my mind, I don't see this happening as the game doesn't seem to have an observer mode for skirmish that you could assign to players in the galactic mode that aren't directly involved in a battle.

That will not go over too well.  I wish there was an observer spot in the skirmish for this use as well as judging, but I guess that is not needed if you can record the skirmish.

The better solution would be to have an option to let galactic time pass as battles as battles are ensuing, that way multiple people can all have a battle or at least build-up during other battles.

I still think the way I mentioned a while ago would be interesting

I can see something like this work for a star wars game. It might not be feasible now in this game, but in a couple years I can definitely see it.

If two players go to battle you have the option to either go to their battle cam and watch the battle unfold. Two, you can go about what you are doing. or Three, if you are in close proximity to the battle you launch into hyperspace and go help as reinforcements (distance would affect time it takes to get there, by the time you get there the battle may be over and you may find yourself coming out of hyperspace on the enemy fleet).

I agree, this would take a lot for a current game to handle, but eventually some game will do it and probably withen the next couple years.
