Guest Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 The space battles are kinda fun but kinda lame in comparison to some other games. I was hoping it would be somewhat like HomeWorld where you cold adjust the elevation and angle of attack and do that neat alt+click on unit and watch the battle from their perspective. Note to the people who like to complain about complainers:This isn't complining so STFU
Teradyn_pff Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Hey, watch it. I don't think anyone on this forum doesn't know what that acronym stands for, and the compilation of letters has no meaning less than the intent. You can have a negative view of the game, and in this one you present what you don't like about it and why, which is good and an improvement over some of your other posts, but the last sentence was completely uncalled for. It might interest you to know that if you click on a unit and hit 'c' you can see the battle from its perspective. Also, if you hit 'c' again, you can move the mouse around with the unit you selected earlier as the focal point and even use the mousewheel to zoom in and out to a certain extent. Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 i'm going to try that Teradyn, (and Megajames look at the Light of the Empire Forum for a grade a arse hole!) but i think that the Hard point system is really cool. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!

Samheyn Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Whoa guys.. relax... no one needs to personaly offend other people on this board...but there is one thing I have to say : I'm absolutly tired of people complaining about everything on this board. It's ok to give arguments why something is realy bad and what should be corrected with patches or in add ons... but if you hate the concept behind this game then be quiet and just do not buy this game because obviously you had something other in mind, but do not whine and fill the boards with threads about what is soooo awful about this game
noian Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I think space battles are really good but does need some fixing(bugs and those uber strong transports) http://www.lucasforums.com/images/avatars/tiedefender.jpgMay the force be with you, always. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/susangillan/EDF-Avatar-X-Wing.jpg http://www.userbars.com/galerie/images/files/3/4/ffuser.jpghttp://www.pixelpwnage.com/sigs/grouptag.jpg.Check for Updates!...Imperial Assault II Mod for Empire at War!!.....Empire at War Nexus, Modding for a Galaxy Far Far Away!!!.......Use the Spell Check Feature People!!!!.........International Battlefront Clan!!!!!.....

Guest JediIgor Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Hard point system: Awesome. Everything else: Not so awesome. Particularly I don't like how the capital ships feel too weak compared to the fighters. I guess Warlords has spoiled me.

Particularly I don't like how the capital ships feel too weak compared to the fighters. I guess Warlords has spoiled me. Agreed again. ;D Though there is at least one unit on each side that is strong against fighters http://www.lucasforums.com/images/avatars/tiedefender.jpgMay the force be with you, always. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/susangillan/EDF-Avatar-X-Wing.jpg http://www.userbars.com/galerie/images/files/3/4/ffuser.jpghttp://www.pixelpwnage.com/sigs/grouptag.jpg.Check for Updates!...Imperial Assault II Mod for Empire at War!!.....Empire at War Nexus, Modding for a Galaxy Far Far Away!!!.......Use the Spell Check Feature People!!!!.........International Battlefront Clan!!!!!.....
Ghostly_Substance Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 One thing that bothers me the most about this game the most is to actually damage the hull of the ship and not the hardpoints. Common hardpoints are just hardpoints and if you blow a critical hardpoint such as the engine there should be a 20% percent chance of the ship going boom. But since this is a game and not a simulation I think it might be better if we could also attack the ship in general and not the hardpoints. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Guest Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I think the thing that sucks the most is the fact that the space battles are on a 2-D plane, I also hope that it would be a little more like HomeWorld and have it on a 3-D plane
Guest Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Agreed ;D the only thing negative in my post was the note to the people who complain about complaining, i was just saying that I wanted it to be like homeworld's
Otto von Bismark Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 It doesn't need to be like Homeworld's but it should be somewhat similar(boy that sentence was WEIRD!). "Revenge is a dish best served cold" - Old Klingon proverb. http://www.shearers.com/images/product/showcase/porkrinds_original2.jpg
Guest Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 they should have at least had it on a 3-D plane
noian Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Hey, i'm just agreeing to Jmaster. You do(or so in all the posts I've seen lately, which isn't alot) post negative(maybe minor but still...)It is in 3-d if you look at the cinematic viewpoint.(good example is solos craft, it goes up and down) There are x,y,and z planes http://www.lucasforums.com/images/avatars/tiedefender.jpgMay the force be with you, always. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/susangillan/EDF-Avatar-X-Wing.jpg http://www.userbars.com/galerie/images/files/3/4/ffuser.jpghttp://www.pixelpwnage.com/sigs/grouptag.jpg.Check for Updates!...Imperial Assault II Mod for Empire at War!!.....Empire at War Nexus, Modding for a Galaxy Far Far Away!!!.......Use the Spell Check Feature People!!!!.........International Battlefront Clan!!!!!.....
WhiteSkull Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 i am glad its not like hw lol hated that games map system , and no matter how much a small% of people wan that it wont happen, hw games are not huge hits there niche market games and had a loyal following of fans. Only thing about the space battles i dislike is there speed, i want the ships to take ALOT longer to die, i wana see the battles rage on for a good bit of time not be over in minutes.
vasuba_pff Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 My biggest complaint is Fighters missiles go right through the shields making shields worthless. dont even need capital ships to kill other capitals. Have all Bobmers and youll win
Delphi-PG Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I was hoping it would be somewhat like HomeWorld where you cold adjust the elevation and angle of attack and do that neat alt+click on unit and watch the battle from their perspective. I'm not knocking HM, but I think there are far more people who are much happier with the route we took. I do pose the question, if the perspective in HM was so great, how come more developers don't adopt it for there games? Hmm... Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com
Naja Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 the only thing negative in my post was the note to the people who complain about complaining, i was just saying that I wanted it to be like homeworld's Your complaints would have more relevance if this was something unexpected. We've known that space battles would not be 3D for almost as long as this game's been in production. Why you choose now to complain is beyond me. I personally find nothing wrong with the current "2.5D" setup. The only eyesore that gets to me for space battles is that "grid" type thing when you zoom out enough, and I think that's something only for the demo...right?
Stellar_Magic Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 The 2.5D is okay, but you didn't have to lock all the cap ships, frigates, and corvettes on their own layer. It would have worked so much better if you'd let all the units rise and fall of their own accord, as it is its very asteticly... unsound? Perhaps I should just say ugly. DarthCycle Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Beowulf, Actually, if you want a game like Homeworld but in the star wars universe, go get the sw mod for it. Homeworld is a complex 3D space RTS. Personnaly, too complex for me. I prefer the simplicity offered by SWEAW so far. Simple but with a few elements to offer tactical opportunity and flexibility. I like the design they used for fighters and capital ships. Fighter are faster, fragile but still carry some punch (especially the bombers). Capital ships are big, slow and powerfull. Things are not as they seem, nor are they otherwise
DarthCycle Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Noian, your scrolling text is .... hum, let's try to be diplomatic here .... annoying? Things are not as they seem, nor are they otherwise
DarthCycle Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Vasuba, You're absolutely right. A massive fleet of bomber is powerfull. However, extremelly vulnerable too. A balanced fleet with good anti-fighter elements will eat your bomber fleet very easily. This brings the single element of what makes a good game: it's all about interesting choices. You, as the player, have the choice of making a specialized fleet or a balanced fleet? It's a big gamble, it can pay off but it can also end in utter failure and make you lose the war. Things are not as they seem, nor are they otherwise
