Avaris Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 We haven't been given any good "significant" news since "a demo in decemeber" and "no SSD, but you get the Venator!", unless you want to count the fixing of the planetary shields issue.... Isn't part of marketing keeping a steady stream of good exciting news flowing leading up to launch? Rather than.... "not the timeline we had lead you to believe" .... "gamespy isn't THAT bad if you aren't playing with more than 2 players" ..... "Oh yeah, it is mod friendly...but you won't have the tools at launch" .... "Demo in Dec? We never said that. Sorry we let you think that for 5 months" .... sigh
Guest Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I think LA and PG are on the brink of being at each other's throats
Guest Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Actually I have no Idea why I said that. I don't know much about the communication that goes on between them but PG is creative right? and how would you feel is someone is purposefully stifleing your creativity? I can only imagine that PG might feel a bit resentfull towards lucasarts or maybe just down right hostility.
Avaris Posted January 5, 2006 Author Posted January 5, 2006 Ehh...I highly doubt that Beowulf. I suspect that right now they are paying very little attenetion to us, because the combined money on these forums is less that a couple thousand. And right now they think their game is a solid product for the larger market. The little attention they are paying to us results in them thinking "These fans are foolish, don't understand the industry, and are starwar geeks who will complain about any minor unimportant detail". I fear that the issues on their end will not arise until 4 months after release. And we are left without any new patches or support because the game didn't impress the larger audience whom they feel will not be worried about the game lacking most units from the movies. But in reality, most people are starwars fans. (It is the most watched series of all time) Not to the extent as those on these forums perhaps. But worse, the "casual" starwars fan only knows starwars from the movies. And that fan will be far more turned off by the lack of movie vehicals and the addition of units that are neither from the movies or the books.
Naja Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I think it's more to the effect that the people that LucasArts are marketing this game to are going to forget all about it once the next big thing comes. Granted, you have to consider the (fickle) mainstream when trying to release a mainstream game, but if it's too much at the expense of your core, long-term audience, then the game will fall into limbo in a very short while, like a year and a half (look at Battle for Middle Earth).
DarthMaulUK Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 BFME was left alone by EA because it sucked. And when you have something like Rome Total War to challenge against...well, there is no challenge! With Battlefront 2 well behind, the marketing push can begin for EaW. naturally the budget wont be as huge as BF2 because this title is only for the PC. And its our jobs as fans, to spread the word as well to the massives and judging by the latest pre-release figures, its looking good DMUK The Lucasfan Networkwww.lfnetwork.com Empire At War - the new RTSwww.empireatwar.net Star Wars Battlefront. Naja Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 BFME was pretty fun, in my own experience. Just struck me as a game that had loads of potential, but got rushed out and sorely neglected after its release.

That's about it tho'.
