Rotation?

That would be a cool feature. Let me explain:

A SD and a fish stick (mon cal crusier) are side by side guns blasing at each other. I rotate my SD 90 degrees on it's horizantal axis and blow the crap out of the mon cal because it is now exposed to all 8 heavy turbolasers instead just 4.

Wouldn't the other person be trying to do the same thing too? What if reinforcements come and attack the back of your ISD?

There are too many variables mainly because, this strategy is too basic and doesn't need to be applied.

If they can't do something as simple as that I'm redoing the Ai, I won't care how long it takes. Also, I BELIEVE that Delphi stated that the revamped maps made it that the ai can and will go around you.

I hope that AI can do simple counters because some games i have played have serious AI prob;lems they are stupid as hell.

Agreed.

Stupid Ai. :D

Look at Bf2's. Though some chimpmunks(newbs) are just as bad. Easy kills for me.

It is better to be "broadsiding" someone that attacking them straight on. You really have more guns because not all guns can rotate and shoot that direction because they are in gun banks.

Um, why does C-3PO tell Han what the odds of surviving a direct frontal assault on a Star Destroyer are?

How exactly did we go from that, to having a Star Destroyer more powerful in a broadside?

Not true. One of the major improvements that came with the Imperator Class compared to the Venator was its remote control for turbolaser batteries which enabled the gun batteries to rotate much more. Almost every single gun on an ISD can shoot a target directly in front of the vessel, its won of the designs primary elements.

The Wedge shape was because it was easy to model and they thought it would strike fear into people hearts it has no real tactical value as they never had time to think about that sort of thing.

pointy triangular=cool

I don't reall think there is a hape that has tactival value, but I thinkt he only weakness to the general shape of the SD is the bridge that sticks out.

But SD's look sleek and sexy compared the hideous mon cal cruisers.

Think about it. What is better than a broadside? Two at once. The shape of the Star Destroyers allows them to bring all of their weapons to bear on a single target in front of them...

too basic?!?!?! that's a pretty lame excuse, if anything basic manuvers should be more valued than needlessly complex ones

Actually, attacking the Imperial ships from behind is a very valid tactic in the game.  If you can bring your Mon Cal behind the ISD and try to stay back there, you can inflict alot of damage while taking very little or none in return while the ISD tries to turn around.

ummm... I don't think rotating the SD 90 degrees on it's horizantal axis would expose it's back, the back (the area with all the engines) would be in the same place but up on it's side

so it could blast it with all the guns instead of on just one side

Has it been determined that the weapon batteries mounted along the edge "trench" of a Star Destroyer can fire directly "upward" or "downward"? If the firing point of the trench weapons is recessed, even a little bit, then the firing angle would likely be restricted such that rotating so the top of the Star Destroyer to face the target won't necessarily allow the side guns of both sides to fire on the target.

It seems reasonable that the weapon turrets located along the top of the body near the superstructure could fire directly "upwards", but then, as indicated above, the side weapon batteries would likely no longer be able to target the enemy, so it could result in less firepower overall. This tactic wasn't performed to my recollection in any movie space battle sequences which could be further evidence that this tactic doesn't work.

Playing EAW I fell the need of turning my ships 180' - It feels really needed to have such an option.

You can rotate by holding down the right mouse button and moving the mouse, it then shows you what direction the ship will face (If you do not understand that tell me and I will explain better)

Is it me or sometimes the ISD's left weapons fire almost to the oposite direction ?
