Avaris Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 And therefor the answer is YES! Silly peoples. So can you clarify to put this debate to an end?
WhiteSkull Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 In other words, the moddable properties will have been blocked off. no matter how much they block people will still find a way.
Delphi-PG Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 no matter how much they block people will still find a way. Of Course! This has always been the case with every C&C we released back in the day. Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com
WhiteSkull Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 LOL since your here why dont you give us some info on the pop cap? or are you not allowed?
Gen.Vader Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 i think everyone ( with a few being the exception) are bashing petro a little too hard for this, albeit we also are bashing lucasarts but its time to face facts. you guys are misquoting and jumping to conclusions on information that has been released before the game has been out. just give it a break, calm down, wait a second, then post your reply. and since these people are being kind to us and treating the fans with enough respect to tell us what is really going on, then we have to respect them too. this has been a reality check of sorts, they have outrightly denied or drastically changed little of thier info that they originally gave us, it has mostly been fan hype that has led to this unpleasentness. I've have you now - Lord Vader
Naja Posted December 20, 2005 Author Posted December 20, 2005 I agree, General Vader. We may be a little impatient, what with the waiting and all, but there is absolutely no excuse for bashing a decent guy like Delphi who is taking time out of his (undoubtedly grueling) work schedule developing this game to leak tidbits of info for our insatiable curiosities. You unsatisfied or impatient? Fine. Just articulate it clearly and non-derogatorily.
Teradyn_pff Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Well, I don't know who would be bashing Petroglyph. I haven't seen anyone do so, but Lucas Arts? Oh, yeah. We don't trust someone who will sit there and tell everyone that we can "play all of the planets in the Star Wars universe" when we know full well that the planet (and moon) count is less than 50. We have the past games (very recent ones too) to go off of and our past experiences with Lucas Arts. I think our fears of the game being non-moddable are very well grounded given what the answer to that question was. And another thing, many games have their XML files sitting in a data directory or somesuch, but the fact that you have to have a tool to extract them means one of two things probably. First, that the XML files are compressed, and stored in such a way as to be accessed more efficiently by the game engine. Or second, the XML files and other such modifiable elements were locked away at the behest of Lucas Arts to protect "their" intellectual property (read: the expansion or sequel). I fully trust that Petroglyph was planning on (and still hopes to) giving us all the tools they could to modify this game to our hearts content. I think that they realize the life that gives to a game. Lucas Arts on the other hand has no motivation to allow us the tools since they go off of the big Star Wars fan base to pump up their initial sales. I am even willing to bet that Petroglyph had been pressured to make this game portable to X-Box 360 or some such nonsense, which I hope has nothing to do with the low PC specs. The people that are being negative, I feel, have every reason to be. Every detail that has been released since I found out about the game in September 05 has been a let down from what the game looked like, and was touted to be then. I don't think I have to go through all of those pieces of news that were letdowns, I think we all know too well what they are. The biggest problem is the fact that with each announcement the game is getting more restrictive and dumbed down. I wish that we could work together as a group and spread word on the net and convince people who have placed pre-orders, deposits and the like (things that Lucas Arts tracks to determine initial sales) to pull out. It would be a phenominal success on the part of the consumer if we could pull that off. The problem is, as the poll I started shows, the people who already put in their orders or deposits are not likely to do this. Add to that the ones who are blindly buying anything that is Star Wars without demanding quality, you get the history of Star Wars RTSs. They haven't been good, because they haven't had to be! Anyway, we need to be vocal about these things that are negative for the game and what it is turning into. Not flaming, that does no good, but we need to be vocal. Let them know what you think! Try to rise above the noise of the cattle who will buy anything Star Wars and who by their blind acceptance, furthur encourage bad Star Wars games. Avaris Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Yes, bashing is not a solution. But there is a middle ground. If you go into a barber shop to get a haircut, and they aren't doing it as you wanted, what do you do? You politely tell them again what it was that you wanted, rather than thinking to yourself "Well, this guy is nice and he is trying real hard. I'll just live with it". What I mean by that analogy is simple: The game is being made for us(Granted, we only represent a 'sample' of all users. But generally our opinions can be universalized with a fair degree of margin of error). So, if its being made for us, we have a responsibility to make sure its understood what it is that we want. (Without bashing or flaming or anything of that sort). But we can't forget that we are the clients. Without us, they would have no point in making the game. And without them, there would be no game. Everybody here is therefore equal.
Delphi-PG Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 LOL since your here why dont you give us some info on the pop cap? What would you like to know other than it does not hinder the player in the way you guys are thinking? Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com
WhiteSkull Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 What would you like to know other than it does not hinder the player in the way you guys are thinking? basicly how many pop cap slots do cap ships like ISD and MC take and can we get the smaller ships like nebs and corvs in 2-3 per unit Also are fighters free since they are docked on cap ships? will x-wings be free since they can jump on there own? Stuff like that
Garbageben Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 LOL since your here why dont you give us some info on the pop cap? What would you like to know other than it does not hinder the player in the way you guys are thinking?I think that's all the info that we need Delphi. Thanks! I seriously don't think that you guys are being fair to the pop cap limit thing. Just look at the screens and see the battles there and watch the gameplay videos. I know that from just seeing those, that if that is the pop cap then I will not be hindered in the slightest. http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sh/type/0/garbageben.png
Teradyn_pff Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 The trouble is, that most of us thought that the engagements in the videos and screens were only part of the action and not the entire forces available to all sides in one small area! As for the request for pop cap values for the ships and stuff, submit that in the question thread for them to answer on Friday. I think there is already something in there on that, but check to be sure. Delphi-PG Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 As one of the 5 questions for this week, why don't you guys add a question about pop cap? We'll expose all the little secrets for ya. Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com
WhiteSkull Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 As one of the 5 questions for this week, why don't you guys add a question about pop cap? We'll expose all the little secrets for ya. meanie making us wait another day and i am sure there will be one on pop cap
Teradyn_pff Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 There is a topic that Delphi started for the Q&A round 2. Go post your questions in there or debate the ones that are already up. JanGaarni Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 He's not a meanie because we have to wait. He's a meanie cause he's making us use up one the 5 questions to ask about the unit cap, when he could just tell us alittle bit about it here. I keed, I keed!! All will be revealed in due time. http://www.lfnetwork.com/images/lfnlinker.gifStar Wars: Empire at War.Net Moderator&SWGalaxies Moderator Co-Leader of The Affiliates! -A-- What we do in life, echoes in eternity!- May the pants be with you!
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 yeah i dint think that you said never Delphi but some of the peopel here as we've said we don't trust Lucasarts anymore they annouch how great a game is then they limit the game by either Shortening the development time and releasing half finished games or they just order the developers to take out some of the stuff from the game. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Phantom_pff Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 i see one problem with all the people bashing the game and LA, they are [edited to: MOSTLY] working with this one word:probably it dose not mean yes, and it dose not mean no, but the problem is when you use it, people tend to go with whatever suites there wants, and when they don't get it they get mad and start bashing everything. For the record, I would like to thank Petro for putting there time into making this game, even if it dose not "live up to everyone's expectations" I appreciate the hard work you all are putting in to making the game.
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 i have to agree with Phantom about the Thanks but sometimes there is only one word that goes with what has not been confirmed or denied it is PROBABLY. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Teradyn_pff Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Probably? eh? I am pretty sure alot of people are posting what has actually happened in the past, not making blind conjectures on the future of LA's involvement in EAW based on no previous data. The post right above your didn't use the word probably anywhere in it. We have a valid reason to be worried, because as good as Petroglyph's intentions can be, they don't have complete control over this game. My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png
Phantom_pff Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 True, and i would like to reword my last to: MOST people (not all) are using the word probably in there posts.(sorry i should have chosen my words a bit better) As for control, it is LA who owns the copyright to EVERYTHING Star Wars, so them having control over most of the game is something that should be expected.
Teradyn_pff Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Expected, yes. Liked, no. How much they meddle in EAW is the only variable in question here, not whether or not they can.
