ok you are the head of a small task force of 3 caps 5 corvettes and a handful of fighters you see a large fleet of isd heading to a peace full planet you know there going to invade do you attack them in hoping they will leave if so how would you do it

Depends on the situation, if heavily outnumber and outgunned then I'd just let the planet be and try to confront em later, it's silly to waste a taskforce when you know you're going to loose the fight...

tell the planet to sit tight put some recon fighters through the area and call in the closest reinforcements failing that i'd put some pressure on the nearby systems and try and get them to split the force up then hit it when they cant reinforce themselves the Empire was always over stretched during the big Assualts.

I would send a large fleet to help and build ground defences to thrash the oncoming fleet! :twisted:

i'd make it a "movie moment" and chance it. i'd make all of my 'vets fall back and defend the caps and when there is an opening i'd go for the heart of there approcing fleet and let the caps through destroying the opposition :twisted:

if the empire doesn't have interdictors, then I'd just do hit and runs with the fighters. Primary targets would be troop transports and tie fighters, if they are the computer's ships they probably will have the transports with them.

 

If the ISDs turned to try to attack my fleet, I'd go as long as possible, maybe do a couple of shield generator runs if I got the transports and get out of there.

 

 

Besides, most fleets, both rebel and Imperial will likely not have whole groups of ISDs. With ISDs and Cruisers being the top ships and thus very expensive, there will likely be more support ships than capital ships in any engagement. I think a fleet of ISDs vs a fleet of Cruisers is not likely to happen till way into the game, if you let your enemy build up that fleet.

you would have to be stupid to let the computers shipyards build that many SD's the first thing you do in a war is try and dampen productablity. (Which as the Rebels were this wasnt easy since they bought from Privateers and/or stole all material they used.

Depends on what the ships are. If they're Y-wings: go for the lasers and engines. X-wings: protect the 3 capital ships, and A-wings: protect the corvettes while they attack the Imperial Star Destroyers.

I think i would as someone said try to destroy the transports to crush their landing party and give myself some time to bring a fleet and destroy the outhers. Then i would go in and take the planet for mine and build some ground to space cannons and blast the bastards if they came back! muhahahahaha :twisted:

Pretty much that, but would attack even if I can't do that. After all, If I destroy a few ISD's in a hit and run, its worth losing some corvettes.

Yeah noian, but if attacking meant sacrificing those ships but not destroy them and you lost the planet would it be worth it?

I think it would, you would probably take down some enemy ships and wound them wile you can move one of your fleets back and kick but if that was a planet worth fighting for. like if the bonus that you get from it is good.

yeah but Hit'n'run needs the enemy to not be suspecting your attack if they see your approach then the tactic is screwed.

I'm emphasizing on the RUN part. As in after I damage them, or destroy a bit, I run before they can launch their fighters and counterattack.
