Planets With A Deathwish

Hello everyone! This is my first post, and im very pleased with what I have seen on these forums. Lots of great questions and difinative answers. I think Empire at War is going to be a great game, and I can't wait to finally command the best sci-fi ship ever concieved, the all- mighty Imperial Star Destroyer! I hope to fight along side (or against) you all online someday!

Alright, now lets say you have just constructed a shiny new toy. It's big, round and and has a giant metal crater in the center made for destroying planets. Let's call it, the Deathticle . The Deathticle is now the ultimate power in the galaxy. Now, what pitiful planet to destroy first, Admiral?

Lets see, those wookiees are wreaking havok on that forest world of Kashyyyk, but those tuskens and smugglers are just so darn annoying on Tatooine! You could wipe out the center of organized crime in the galaxy buy turning Nal Hutta into chunky soup. Or, you could just go to the backbone of the pitiful Rebel Alliance itself, and destroy Mon Calamari!

Of course, some of you would be more conservative and chose to just conquer all these worlds instead, but you've gotta do at least one "im just so fed up with you im not even going to bother!" scenario! Im actually a bit on the conservative side myself (not politically speaking), but it would be fun to experiment, right?

You now know all of my top pics. Now, how about yours?

Welcome to the forums. Well I would destroy the planet that had the most annoying race and no its not the Gungans. Watch it I might end up destroying a race someone might be in love with so who knows what race they have until the game comes out. Normally I would conquer what I can and then destroy the ones I cant.

yeah but its more fun to blow up the planets although as i'm going to be the rebels first, im limited to conquer them as the rebels dont have any superweapons because they arent stupid. the empire faced everythreat with a superweapon then cocked up by failing to screw down an exhast port and some hotspot enemy pilot would blow it up!

muhahahahahaha(*cough)

Usually I can figure out the *'s, but I'm confused on this one.

I think that conquering planets is great because then I gain the planet and the rebellion loses it which means I have gained a 2 planet advantage from the rebels (assuming they had it to begin with).

I think that this is the best way to gain power over the enemy. I may build the Death Star just for intimidation, but I probably wouldn't use it unless there was no way my armies could take out a rebel planet. And I'll probably use it to destroy the last nasty rebel planet every game. D*** rebels.

As I support the rebels but will inevitably play as the Empire sometime along the game I will keep the DS at coruscant to ensure that the rebels can't surprise the Throneworld. I wouldn't destroy a planet as it can be used to further my army size and could hold a Hero that I don't know about. I mean I wouldn't destroy somewhere like Tatooine as Mara Jade could be there undercover as one of Jabba's Dancers.

Unless you are using the DS as a very expensive and likely to be lost trap, you probably aught to keep it on the move. In Coruscant you can't do anything with it, since it is the DS I.

As for myself, I probably wont build the DS unless I get alot of extra credits built up that I just want to blow for the heck of it.

If I do end up building one, I will probably use it on the Rebels' last planet left ftw.

the DS I think, is worth building when the situation is really hard, as if you have the resources to build a DS blowing up a planet to vaporize the rebellion is not a great loss

- I have you now!

- Obi-wan never told you what happened to your father...

- If you only knew the power of the Dark Side...

- Evacuate?In Our Moment of Triumph?*BOOM*

I'd build a death star and blow up a planet if that was where a bunch of the rebels units were and it would be too much trouble to take over. If you think about it, are those extra credits you get from that planet worth losing a lot of your units for? You could make the rebels lose tons while you lose nothing except a few credits and the units it takes to defend the death star for a couple seconds.

yeah true sorry about that last post its the forumns they s c r e w e d up the typing.

but as they said in the trap Fosh the DS doesnt have the ability to Blow up Capital Ship and as you cannot summon an Reinforcements you are Shafted if it gets trapped in system!

Well, we don't know what the cost will be for the units it would take to capture a planet. It may be more costly to destroy the planet than it would be to lose the units in the process of taking it. It will probably depend on the planet resource production as well, but if it is a high producer, you will most likely have a hard fight to take it over anyway.

I still do not see the Death Star as a viable resource expenditure when the general populace is not swayed by its existence/proximity. It was primarily designed as a fear weapon. Even the Empire knew that it could not destroy planets willy-nilly. The destruction of Alderaan was a very political message about the resolve to use the Death Star. The only other purposeful use to destroy a planet/moon was the swift annihilation of the Rebels, a cost well worth it to the Empire.

The Death Star in this game is a gimick, pure and simple.

I will get to work on the Map Editor and make myself an Earth, then ill set it to start on the Rebellions side and blow it into an astroid field. Then ill set up some shipyards there and begin building another Death Star (If it allows it) and put a puny fleet around it while hiding my big fleet near its Nebula so they will not see it. Then the Rebels come to squash my fleet and destoy the 2nd DS they destroy my puny fleet, then my big fleet rushes out from the Nebula and begins crushing them while my DS begins deploying its TIE Defenders (Legacy of War). I will effectivly destroy the Rebellion "with one swift strike"

We don't know that. We know that planets are capable of rebelling, and that popular support will play some sort of role. Didn't Delphi somewhat hint towards diplomacy being an option in the game? In any case, I'm sure that there will be a political benefit to the Death Star being constructed. Maybe several neutral planets will join the Empire simply out of fear.

Ok, let me rephrase my question. Ahem, if you HAD to blow up a planet, what would it be and why? Good responses and all though

P.S. Forgive the randomness of this question, but does anyone know what the song is thats blayed on the intro to the EAW Flash site? I think its from Episode I, but I just want to be sure. (Huge John Williams fan!)

I would blow up Corusant. Why? Because it would be awesome to watch the most populated planet, the center of the Galactic Empire and first Republic, be turned into an asteroid field. Think of the irony too... The Empire's ultimate weapon... Blowing up the Empire's home.

Yavin IV, why wait to go around the planet just blow it up u'd probaly do enough damage to the moons to get that rebel base. Maybe the superlaser isn't powerful enough to destroy a gas giant but come on they could atleast try, maybe the energy from the superlaser would have some unexpected effect like turning it into a star so instead of vaporizing the rebels you insinerate them.

Or, perhaps the shields wasn't designed to withstand that kind of force such a planet would create when exploding? ;)

Does anyone know if a laser could penetrate the superhot fires and reach the super-superhot cores and destroy it, im thinking of a small supernova. Which would destroy the Death Star and pretty much the entire solar system
