Team colors

I was thinking, unless there is another way, other than chewie, to steal/capture enemy vehicles, why all the team color?

I mean, only an unintelligent person would not be able to tell the difference between a Rebel vehicle/ship and that of the Imperials.

Maybe its a skirmish map with more then one Imperials? Well they did skip from one map to another but maybe i'm wrong and its just Campaing stuff. Well i'm confuzzled right now.

It is much quicker to tell which units are yours based upon unit color, even if it isn't hard to just 'see' which side. And also some of the units aren't shown (or aren't very prominate) in the movies, so until you get used to the game they might not be very obvious until you have played the game a little.

Plus you probably need team coloring for the team battles (2v2, 4v4, etc).

Zing!

Becuase the game is being marketed to people who have no RTS expereince and therefore need to be shown in bring colors what units are theirs.

If you don't believe me then ask yourself "Why doesn't the Galactic map continue to go when you enter Tactical Combat". Becuase the game is for first time RTS players and they wouldn't be able to handle it.

Sorry I'm just pissed about what i'm seeing i nthe game.

I'd agree except that I know of only one game which has a map and combat and that actually *doesn't* pause when you enter combat (but only if you are in Hard difficulty). So the better answer is that they didn't program their game to easily have the option to let the galactic map continue. I wouldn't gripe about that IMO.

Now the colors.. I hope there's an option to disable that in campaign/scenario modes.

that game would be knights of honor correct Igor?

Correct :). Decent game, I really liked how it was real-time and battles wouldn't instantly auto-resolve. I was disappointed once you left a battle you couldn't resume it (and that you couldn't tab between map/battle real quick, so as not to get your ass kicked by the other armies), but apart from that a pretty fun game. I kinda wish they would make Total War in real time, Knights of Honor proved it can be done :).

But after all, KoH probably started with real-time in mind, since everything was real-time :).

I'm pretty sure that team colours are disabled in campaign/scenario mode. In about 99% of the videos/screenshots we saw until today there were no coloured units (all Games Convention pictures were taken in Skirmish mode). In my opinion those few screenshots which have team colours are taken from the skirmish mode where team colours are extremely usefull (imagine eight rebel players fighting each other...).

*edit

And it's good this way. If the game would be created only for hatrcore RTS gamers it would be dead right from the begining (eg: Earth 2160. Never heared of it? See!)

And here I'm pretty sure even most hardcore RTS players wont be able to handle this. I don't know anybody who could defend three planets/fight three battles at the same time. And including a feature that would force players to loose does not make much sense imho.

Seems the game is being marketed towards only to those with no RTS experience. I wish they would try to bring a balance between stuff hardcore gamers would like and new ones.

No doubt the game will be fun at start, but how long can you go from planet to planet using the same techniques, same units, same heros (who keep coming back), with only the landscapes changing. It needs some sort of complexity to keep you coming back for more than one go through. I think they are trying to baby us to much, don't worry LEC and Petro, we can handle a little bit complexity in strategy games!

also the campaign doesn't sound that diverse, the way this video made it sounds, no matter what you do, you end up at the death star with the rebels attacking it. Doesn't sound like you get to change the star wars galaxy that much if you end up at the same point as the movie.

Why are people calling it an RTS? It's not an RTS anymore. It stopped being an RTS when they stopped having workers harvesting resources. It's grand strategy now.

In terms of the campaign, I hope you can win it as the Rebels/Imperials *before* the Death Star is complete before you are good enough. But Nevets brings up a point, if the game is too simple, even the best modding won't help it because all of the people who wouldn't even bother trying the game.

Well about the game being targeted at newcomers to RTS I slightly disagree. I myself(and some others I know) don't have too much experience with RTS's(mainly played the demos) and even I am being apprehensive the game is going to have no depth at all.

About the campaign how I see it is that you either finish the game by doing all the missions and sub-plots or by taking everything over. The reason why the Deather Star scene is so focused is because that is where ANH ended so it will most likely be the end of the rebellion campaign. With the empire it most likely will be the destruction of Yavin and then either you win or you must take out what little rebellion there is left on other planets.

you guys just think it's too simple becuase you've only seen little battles so far. You haven't seen the stratagies that are there but you haven't seen becuase the EAW people haven't had time to show us a full length game.
