I know alot of people don't know how the DS works so i hope this helps clear things up for you.

edit: sorry it did not come out as large as i had hoped,

to see it full sized go here:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/starwarsrts/screenindex.html

pretty much what i wanted to show was that the DS has a count-down timer, as seen at the top of the pic, and on the control bar there is a leaver, when the DS is within range, you click (and maybe drag) the leaver down for it to fire. Some one asked before if it would be on the map with the ships and fighters, as that it is clearly shown with fighters and cap ships that answer is a yes.

I think there's other threads that address the DS in great detail, but there are still a lot of questions that picture doesn't answer. Just a few are can it fight capital ships with turbolaser fire? Can it carry troops and equipment? One bit of information the new preview on Gamespot gives is that the DS moves really, really slow. I think its still early to judge too harshly, but the DS is looking like a big liability to the Imperial player.

The shaky cam video shows that you just wait for it to get into range and drag n drop the icon onto the planet, then BOOM

but if it can't carry troops and fighters, it is just a waste of money

i mean, how many planets would you blow up? really? with just over 40, in the largest campaign, we cannot afford to blow many up, we need to the income, especially after building the massively expensive Death Star, which if it does not come with troops and fighters, is of no use to securing new income to pay for new fleets/armies that can actually do the job that needs to be done.

until i read that the Death Star is the ultimate planetary assault platform, that can blow the planet up if need be, loaded to the brim with troops, walkers, tanks, fighters etc. then it is just a gimic :?

if it is a gimic (i hope not) i really want the choice to:

A. Not build it

B. Not have to pay for the first one

but if you blow up a planet with the DS with a bunch of the enemy's units on the planet protecting it, you can get rid of a lot of your enemy's units.

I think that you can actually choose between blowing up a planet or to use the DS as an hangar for units

- I have you now!

- Obi-wan never told you what happened to your father...

- If you only knew the power of the Dark Side...

- Evacuate?In Our Moment of Triumph?*BOOM*

At least you should be able to. Discussion about the DS's uselessness has raged here, and without the unit carrying ability, the DS actually slides a little in to the useless-area. Delphi?

Even if it has unit carrying capabilities it would still be much cheaper to buy a ton of carriers and troop carriers

I thought the stuff was suppose to be in scale, the DS looks about as big as a star destroyer.

Remember that there's a lot of scaling involved in the game meaning that you can zoom really close in and out. Also, in a lot of the screens it's rather hard to tell exactly how close the DS is to other ships. It may look close, but there it is a 3D environment, so it could be really far away. Of course there's also the fact that we don't want the whole screen taken up be planets and the Death Star. Some scale has to be sacificed due to the fact that its a game.

Yea but that picture makes it look kind of rediculous. I want to see a picture of a ISD flying right past it.

Scale shouldn't cause havoc with the gameplay will it? If it does then you can change it personally but to a casual player it shouldn't interferre right? Even if the scale is off its still interesting. Take Rise of Nations, the units were bigger then the buildings they got produced from.

the death star is fired when it is in range you just hit a button on the interface screen (i will edit a link to where the button is seen but it may be in a trailer) it resembles a lever and you just 'pull' it, and boom! but the death Star is kept in check by its recharge time which willresemble 24 hours as that has been stated some where it also cannot beuse against any capital ships.

Yes, I have seen this in action at E3(I watched as they played a few battles for us, and then blew up tatooine). From what I remember, if the DS is in range and charged up, all you had to do was hit a button(I seem to remember a big red button, not a lever). There was a confirmation(Do you really want to blow up tatooine?) Then a cinema of the planet getting vaped.

So I guess the trick is to destroy the death star before it gets into range or gets charged.

Welcome to the Forums. Psycho Mantis. and ok so i thought it was a Lever.

Thanks!

It might be now. The last time I saw the game was about 6 months ago, so it might be completely different by now.
