Grey_Raven37 Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum so I just want to say hello and I've got a question about the gameplay in EAW. Now I've looked around the threads and haven't seen this discussed, and while the new FAQ touches on this, I wanted to see what you guys had to say about it. In this game I'm hoping for the ability to conquer the galaxy (using either side) making my own choices and not based on a mission system like traditional RTS games. Am I correct in assuming that that's what the scenario option (mentioned in the the FAQ) will let me do? This is the major reason (besides that it's Star Wars) that I want to get this game since lately I've become increasingly tired of linear mission-based games. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. Thanks. "I aim to misbehave."
Naja Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Even in the campaign, the galaxy will be largely free-style. The missions are there to advance the story, and it is always to your benefit to win a mission that's offered and gain a reward, but you're never compelled to -do- any of the missions, to my knowledge.
The Relentless Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 No, Naja, according to the new FAQ, I would say you do have to complete certain missions in the campaign. (Or at least try) The Scenario mode allows more freedom, like the Galactic conquest in SW: Battlefront 2. In the Scenario mode you choose which faction you want to play with and how big the galaxy will be. Then you just duke it out the way you see fit. Edit: Oh, I almost forgot, welcome to the forums, Grey_Raven, hope you enjoy your stay. I'll be looking forward to more good posts from you. I'd also like to warn you about the strict anti-spam policy in these forums. Spammers get banned easily, but your first post gives me the idea that you're not going to spam, am I right? Go Leafs go!

Darth Vader Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 I think gameplay will be very free... I'm worried about heroes... - I have you now! - Obi-wan never told you what happened to your father... - If you only knew the power of the Dark Side... - Evacuate? In Our Moment of Triumph?*BOOM*"Visit Spriters Resource at their new home!"
Foshjedi2004 Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Vader's Force Grip looks Painfull http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
The Relentless Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Vader's Force Grip looks Painfull Sure does, but his Force Crush looks even worse. Imagine yourself inside a tin can. Now imagine the tin can gets stepped on by a highly obese individual. Ouch. Go Leafs go!
Nevets Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 I hope they spend more time on scenario then campaign. Campaign you will play once, maybe twice, scenario seems like what most of us will bring us back to keep playing.

Im worried that there will just be two endings such as the Rebels killing the death star OR the imperials killing Yavin IV. Im hoping it isnt that set, and there can be other endings. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator

Darth Vader Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 that's right vader is so evil I liked him from the very first I saw him...but still I'm worried abuot heroes and experience: since they can't be resurrected, will experience make them stronger, or luckier or whatever? - I have you now! - Obi-wan never told you what happened to your father... - If you only knew the power of the Dark Side... - Evacuate? In Our Moment of Triumph?*BOOM*"Visit Spriters Resource at their new home!"

Matthujun Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 i would really like to see Rebels taking over Coruscant in the campaign. I know it's doesn't fit storyline, but it would be pretty cool to see the rebels and the imperials fighting to the last men

The campaign isnt a straight path, you decide what to do. So if you have the forces you will be able to attack Coruscant most likely. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
Dorkthehunter Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 I know I will be attacking Corusant. My Rebels armies will conquer and then head straight towards the heart of the Imperials! It will no longer be named Imperial Center, but Bob! Hahahaha! Protecting the world from those who have an IQ higher than 30! Huzzah! Trust me...I'm a professional. I bet us they will have a little difference of endings, like instead of that it will be Rebels destroy DS and Imps destroy [planet rebel base is at at the moment]
Grey_Raven37 Posted November 29, 2005 Author Posted November 29, 2005 So what happens in a campaign if you loose a mission? Do you continue playing with a loss or do you have to complete it to advance? P.S. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! "I aim to misbehave."
Dorkthehunter Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 So what happens in a campaign if you loose a mission? Do you continue playing with a loss or do you have to complete it to advance? Welcome to the forums if you already have not been welcomed! If you lose, you deal with it. You live to fight another day. You lose if all of the planets are conquered by the opposing side. So a good strategy: don't let them take your planets without a serious fight, and you can retreat, so send in a fast force, do some damage, and then leave! It adds a lot of strategy to the game! Protecting the world from those who have an IQ higher than 30! Huzzah! Trust me...I'm a professional. Some other members and I are trying to be superheroes and save the forums. The Relentless Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 So what happens in a campaign if you loose a mission? Do you continue playing with a loss or do you have to complete it to advance? P.S. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! Well, they've said that the campaign will be non-linear, so I don't think you have to complete every mission, if you lose, then you lose, and the campaign goes on. I still doubt that there will be much freedom in the campaign, so that's why (again) I prefer the Scenarios. Go Leafs go!

Isn't a part of the Star Wars philosophy that heroes cannot return?I think it was clearly stated that they're hard to kill, but if he dies, that's it. - I have you now! - Obi-wan never told you what happened to your father... - If you only knew the power of the Dark Side... - Evacuate? In Our Moment of Triumph?*BOOM*"Visit Spriters Resource at their new home!"

We wish, but it doesn't look that way. Delphi said it would be moddable but at start heros wont die

Grey_Raven37 Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 OK, I can't remember if I read something about hyperspace travel somewhere on the boards here, but has anything been released on how hyperspace travel works? Meaning can you only travel from one planet to the next adjacent planet (like checkers, I guess) or would you be able to jump farther to allow for things like hit & fade attacks inside enemy territory?
