Shields

some questions about shields.

can enemy units go into enemies' shielded base and start shotting?

(like when droids entered the gungan shields and start pwning them)

and if power generators can only be built outside of the shield, why would anyone want to build it?

Finally, can units inside your shield attack the enemy outside of your shield?

1) yes since we saw AT-ATs enter a Rebel base that was shield protected

2) Dont know whats going on there but maybe there will be more then 1 shield type?

3) Yup since I thought I saw it in the 47 min video. If not my mistake.

Bombers cant destroy whats inside and neither can artillery. You'll have to get in and sacrifice some/most of your army. I have a feeling i'm wrong and Delphi will be mad at me and correct me :|

Myself and a few others designers just got done fixing this. Originally this was lore, but it was not fun. Now it depends on the map, some are in the shields some are out. The terrain will be tactical different based on layout. Enjoy!

In that scenario I guess we'll just have to sit back and blast against the shield for awhile...

Supposably Particle shields can be penetrated by "Grounded" vehicles, like walkers. Thats how the Imperials were able to take down the shields at Hoth, deploying walkers outside the shield radius and marching them under it.

is it possible to bring enough firepower onto the shield to take it down, or do you HAVE to take out the generator?

logically, if you pump enough energy into the shield it should come down, like a starship shield

in another star wars strategy game "something Commander", the shield was a sort of additional life bar that stayed until you exit the range of the shield generator.

Yes! Keep in mind Shields are designed to block energy based weapons not projectiles (lore). Of course for aprice, we have an upgrade that can do both.

There are generally 2 types of shields in Star Wars: Ray shields which is the one you speak off, and partical shields which stop objects, such as projectiles.

The Upgrade is probably a mixture of Particle and Ray shielding. IE Partical Shielding and then Ray shielding ala ANH when the Falcon goes into the DS and Han goes. Entering the Particle Shields

all the enemy has to do is go into the shield, and the battle would be exactly the same, just that its close range....

Which is exactly what happens 90% of the time in SW. You need ground vehicles (tracked, wheeled or legged) to push through the shield and deactivate its generator(s).

Well, I'm glad to see this brain-bug is partially discarded. I've never heard of the "generator outside the shield" other than in one of two EU stories. The movies and other stories had them safely inside the shields, so this is an improvement. :)

Judging from the dialogue in ESB, "It is strong enough to deflect any bombardement", even projectiles cannot enter. The only indication we've had of shield-entry in the movies, is through slow-moving ground vehicles.

There's also the rebel fighter passing through the DS I's magnetic field, but that may have been due to the shield being aimed at stopping larger vessels.

Either way, sounds good.

I am confused. Has the design been changed from an energy shield and a particle shield to a tier 1 (energy) and a tier 2 (both) shield?

Wasn't a particle shield one that could block ships and units? Why did the fleet have to pull away from their attack on the Death Star II when they notice the shield wasn't down? The fighters at least could have passed through if it was the same type of shield that the Death Star I had.

Remember also, that even if a shield can block everything you throw at it, it is still using power and you will eventually overload it. This sounds like the only option with the new shield types in EAW now. Unless they are going to have units passing through the particle shield too, which is silly IMO.

Those shields were probably a mixture of particle and ray shields. Meaning they deflect both physical and energy matter. Note how Delphi said you can purchase a costly upgrade to get both.

that would be good although if they had shields by EPi III why didnt they have them on the Venator.

I'm not sure which scene you're talking about, are you referring to the one where a Munificent frigate explodes and one of the red pieces of shrapnel crashes against a Venator's hull? It could have had its shields down while firing the blue beam and not get them up before the shrapnel hit. Either way, the Venator's hull was more than enough to withstand it.

Or are you referring to the scene where another Venator and the Invisible Hand fire at point-blank range and the bolts hit each hull? Could be the same thing here, the cannons on each need free room to fire, otherwise the bolts/projectiles will hit their own ship's shield.

Partical shielding (deflects objects) works only a few centimeters above the hull, aswell as strengthening the molecular bond of the hull.
