Rebels overpowered?

It could be just me, but it seems like the rebels are overpowered. We see screens of rebel tanks wasting ATATs and star destroyers blowing up by a few corellian corvetts. Now on the new site a group of infrantry wastes a couple ATSTs and not one of the troopers die. It seems that once again the Rebels are overpowered........just like in almost every Star Wars game......

I think the footage you're referring to is more of a marketing decision than anything else. Consumers like to see the good guy kick ass.

The Imperials -are- however going to be the mass-producing faction that indeed does have disposable units like TIEs and Stormies.

However, think of them more as Mordor in Battle for Middle Earth, if you've ever played that: Mordor has very cheap (and even free) and numerous weak units like Orcs. But later in the game, if they can build up a strong infrastructure and out-produce their opponent, they have access to cripplingly heavy technology like Nazguls and Mumakils.

Like I've said, keep in mind that this is PRE-BETA. I'm sure all of the values haven't been completely adjusted, and will undergo even further adjustment after the demo itself.

And even if they're stupid after -that-, the damage and hitpoint values of units are going to be the absolutely easiest things to mod.

There are greater things to worry about. Like real life concerns!!! :)

um maybe just maybe it occurs to some people that we are just getting a taste of the game? what i mean by that is prolly the video we saw was made at the same time as they were working to improve the game and had some modifications to make battles longer, better and etc.

i wouldnt be surprised if it was just a big marketing tool, not a reflection of the current project.

well, maybe they are stronger, I mean they have the mon calamari cruiser (and I don't see it in episode IV)while the empire has no SSD... or it has?

Well after all its just to show off the units and the Tie Mauler should have had its moment since the anti-tank troopers got theirs. Anyways this isn't the real game yet and when we do things will be fine enough to play without complaints.

The Mon Calamari lent their support and their ships to the Rebellion before ANH.

if anything the empire should have better and more numerous troopers, storm troopers are better trained better equipped than those rebel bumbs. The empire's vehicles are supposed to better than any thing the rebels have....

yeah but rebel men are more skilled, I think, and they fight with the iron will of who believes in something. the emperor's soldiers, except someone, don't have this

Yes and no.

Typically, in any revolution, it is the counter-insurgeny forces who are better-trained and better-supplied. It just makes sense - a Stormtrooper is equipped with the best armor, has brutal training on the planet Carida, and is fanatically brainwashed to be loyal to Palpatine's agenda.

Rebels generally make up for this distinction by fighting asymetrical warfare and using creativity and deception whenever possible. This is why, to use a real-world example, the US military - one of the best and most technologically-advanced in the world - got its ass kicked by a bunch of peasant farmers in Vietnam, regardless of how many Vietnamese were killed.

We have yet to see how this will be reflected in the game.

True, but alot of the rebel forces are Imps gone revolutionary, but that doesnt really matter.

From what I can see the rebs pwn on the ground, but they seem to need some help in space. Kinda like the UNSC in Halo. I think this works well, make the Imps work harder on the ground where it makes sense that the rebs would have an advantage, and make the rebs fight harder in space where they always seem to be at a disadvantage.

This way LA can still stick to the lore, while keeping the game balanced.

I'd still be excited to see a mod where the rebs were at a massive dissadvantage everywhere tho...

That makes sense, because besides the Mon Cal cruiser the rebels don't have that much cap ship wise, where as the Imps have ISD, VSD, and the clone era ship (forgot its name).

and on the ground, the Imps have the training, but the Rebels have the gorilla war far, like the revolutionary war, The colonists one when they hid in the forests and picked of the Red Coats as they walked by, but when they fought them face-to-face they were massacred.

Dont say that...battles of Sarratoga and Richmond kind of refute it lol.

And I dont think its that way, just look at the ground tech of the two sides...what would you rather have? A giant walking thingamabob, or an MLRS with proton torpeados? lol

I'd have to say that in this time period we can hardly draw a comparison between the CSA and the RA. Whereas the CSA was a fully-fledged, albeit acknowledged by none, country, the RA is a overt revolutionary group with no legitimate galactic government to its name. They, like the revolutionaries, can't simply go and liberate a planet when they want to (Boston). They have little manpower so they need to deliberate their moves carefully.

Yes, EaW may make this less obvious, since as a Rebel you will be able to build huge fleets and ground forces, but in SW History that's how it all panned out. Because if they were already a huge force in that time, then why didn't they go and raid Coruscant like the CSA did with Washington, D.C.?

2 Mon Cals could barely take on a Imperial class, let alone an Executer class. Stormtroopers are the elite of the elite, they are only deployed in special mission that require overwhelming strength. Most of the troops you see in white armor are Imperial Army Troops not Stormtroopers

Because the CSA lost because of it.(figured you know that because of the wink, but just had to clear things up for others) Let's not argue about the American Civil War though.

I think the Rebels are definately not overpowered! They have less heroes, less Jedi heroes, start off at a disadvantage:have less planets, have less powerful capital ships....

Protecting the world from those who have an IQ higher than 30! Huzzah!

If they look like Stormtroopers, then they're Stormtroopers. Imperial Army troops do wear armor but they don't have that familiar helmet that we're used to, and their color is grey, not white.

Actually 2 Mon cal cruisers are enough to destroy a single Imperator MKI(Not sure about the MKII), one Calmari cruiser however will get go down very quickly. An ISD has much better firepower.

One thing that most people are mistaken about is that a Calamari cruiser doesn't have better shields then an Imperator, it does have a large redundant system of shield generators, when a shield go down another will take is place very fast, while a ISD as to wait a while to reestablish it.

In regards with the Stormtroopers JediIgor is very correct.

You wounldnt call that better? Because...I sure would lol.

The way it looks like so far is that the Imps pwn in space and get pwned on ground. It makes sense this way imho, and I like the thought that I will have to work extra hard as rebs to win in space.

Keep in mind this post on how it works is just the opinion Ive formed from watching the game movies.

but since in space rebels got X-wings, while imps got at-at/ other "at-" on ground, should rebels pwn in space while imps pwn ground and rebles pwn space?

i think that makes sense more because rebles are more defensive while imps are taking offensive. imps can unleash their true power on ground while rebels have the chance to take them out in space. Even death star: i mean it can destoy a planet, but it got pwned by bunch of fighters
