Actually the F-35 is going to replace the harrier and F-16. It's going to be a general purpose fighter, so it'll have both air combat and ground support as it's mission. the F-22 is going to be the United State's main interceptor, replacing the F-15 and F-16.

 

The Eurofighter is hardly out of date, it's merely not on the bleeding edge of technology anymore. Quite honestly, I'm not fimilar enough with the Rafael to comment on it Blah...
