Makwu Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 I think both sides will get at least one elite unit ground unit and one special ops unit. Elite Unit: My gut feeling says no darktroppers. Petro wants to do something new. The empire will likely get something like the Coruscant Gaurd or the Emperor's Royal Gaurd. I expect to see crimson running accross the battlefield. Rebs: I have no idea Special Forces: Imperials will get some sort of small commando squad while the rebels get a guerilla squad. Special abilities will something along the lines of “hidingâ€
Foshjedi2004 Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Alucard mentioned it a while ago. He may have just been joking but who can tell. We will get a full ship list in the demo won't we?? http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Cain Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 I don't think so - but maybe we will be able to find into the demo files one that will contain the hole list - The Trivium Organization - Community Manager -- Petroglyph Fan Forums - CoAdmin & Human Resources Manager -
Juggernaut1985 Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 2 things. 1. Calling me a liar when in fact the information is true. 2. I didn't realize that information was so secret just becuase it didn't come from LEC. If it is said then everyone has a right to know. In this case it was said and I shared. For a month now, the question about it being in has been thrown around whether it is in or not, well it is.

Popcorn2008 Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 The empire will likely get something like the Coruscant Gaurd or the Emperor's Royal Gaurd. I suspect the same with the Royal Guard. They will be in the game, because we see them in the trailer, its just a matter of will they just be for cinematic sequences or will they be playable. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
Naja Posted October 7, 2005 Author Posted October 7, 2005 I wonder how Stormies will be portrayed in the game, as well. The original trilogy depicts them as nothing but cannon fodder, while the EU tells about how they're the best of the best elite infantry. Maybe if there was a simple infantry (like Imperial Army Troopers) whose entire purpose was just to occupy worlds? http://www.tnthobbies.force9.co.uk/SWImpArmyTrooper.jpg
Juggernaut1985 Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Just to clarify, I sent an email to Petro asking about the SSD, I was given an answer without any hint of secrecy or "you need to keep this quiet". I got a simple "yes" answer. I don't see it as leaking information nor as it betraying anything. Petro feels very open to their community, only LEC is keeping them from saying anything which seems to be a poor strategy given that this is the RTS Star Wars gme people have been waiting for. Not giving information will hurt more later than giving information.
Naja Posted October 7, 2005 Author Posted October 7, 2005 Anyway, back on topic, I've heard that Rebel Infiltrators (from Force Commander) will be back in the game. This the case, or is it not? If it was, this would be the Rebels' counter to massed walker rushses, or at the very least, an impetus for the Imperial player to have decent infantry support whenever possible.
Makwu Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Looking through some of the videos, there are definetly imperial army troopers (or maybe navy troopers - I can't tell the difference). There are also two different types of storm troopers (Im sure this has been pointed out long ago). One has a long rifle, the other a short rifle with an arm patch.
Naja Posted October 7, 2005 Author Posted October 7, 2005 The long rifle with the arm patch is simply a Sandtrooper, I think. Just goes with their environmental costume switch. Unless I'm wrong, in which case it might be a more elite unit. In which video did you think you saw Army Troopers?
Popcorn2008 Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 I dont really like the fact that in the videos im seeing that all of the stormies are wearing a patch on their shoulder. Doesnt that signify rank? Because that what I thought, and if all of them are wearing a patch then it looks out of wack. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
Makwu Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 These are both tatooine screen shots: Backpacks/Long Rifles/White Shoulder Padhttp://www.eaw-fr.com/modules/view_screen.php?n=3358http://www.eaw-fr.com/modules/view_screen.php?n=2351 No Backpack/Short Rifle/Red Padhttp://www.eaw-fr.com/modules/view_screen.php?n=1714 Desert Planet (Can't tell if its tatooine): No Backpack/Short Rifle/Red PadAND No Backpack/Short Rifle/Black Padhttp://www.eaw-fr.com/modules/view_screen.php?n=1711 I would say that the long rifles and short rifles are two different units, rather than different/models skins for different terrain. However, I can't tell if the should/backpack colors are based on unit upgrade levels or if they are unit coloring signifying different player colors? NOTE: I would like to thank eaw-fr.com for the use their gallery
Ghostly_Substance Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 well my guess is those are all ranked but upgraded so there might be about 5 upgrades to your troops. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Juggernaut1985 Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 I'd imagine it may denote veteran status.
Popcorn2008 Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 I'd imagine it may denote veteran status. That's what I'm thinking, its just in the movies not every trooper had a patch. Such as ones in the death star. Or even on Endor. It just isnt true to the movies. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
JanGaarni Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 The colorored pads, 3 confirmed so far (highest ranked to lowest: red, white, and black), are indeed rank indicators. Though this may be more towards the public rather than ment for the troopers themselfs to identify who's who, as that is suggested their helmets provide adequate information on in the past. http://www.lfnetwork.com/images/lfnlinker.gifStar Wars: Empire at War.Net Moderator&SWGalaxies Moderator Co-Leader of The Affiliates! -A-- What we do in life, echoes in eternity!- May the pants be with you!
Naja Posted October 8, 2005 Author Posted October 8, 2005 Well, following that up...where has it been that you've seen Imperial Army Troopers? All I've seen are Stormies.
Wiking_pff Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 An easy solution would be to make the Rebel units weaker than those of the Empire, but proportionately cheaper. Having the sides completely balanced usually sucks.
Popcorn2008 Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 Having the sides completely balanced usually sucks. Most definetely. As has been proven countless times in the RTS world. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
Makwu Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 Well, following that up...where has it been that you've seen Imperial Army Troopers? All I've seen are Stormies. Eh, I must have been really tired when i was watchng those videos. Can't find them now, so im guessing I was looking at rebel soldiers and thought they were fighting other reb grounds units or something. There are some navy soldiers "other than stormies" in the intro clip from the trailer, but doesn't mean anything.
Naja Posted October 9, 2005 Author Posted October 9, 2005 I've been playing GLA a lot these days in Generals, and I'm wondering? Do you think that Rebel units (at least their basic infantry and probably their rocket infantry, for maximum effectiveness) will be able to cloak when still? It would really add to the Rebel side, I believe, if they had total control of ambush capabilities. They should also have a cheap, easy to acquire unit to lay explosives and mines - that would really keep the Imperial player on his fucking toes.
Ghostly_Substance Posted October 9, 2005 Posted October 9, 2005 GLA was fun when I massed produced Buggies. It ownzored the Americand, Japs, and Rivialy between other GLA. Stealth I love since well, Ghostly is my name and still is just in Japanese or hope it is. Well the Rebels should be able to lay stealthed mines only when its in defence mode. Well you know space landmines that are stealthed to radar and when a ship goes over it a massive serge to mess up the controls in the ship or to damage it heavily. If on land it'll cripple vehicles and blow them up and for troops bye bye or heavily injured. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
