In battle Debris can are presistant in combat

So, now that we know this (from the empirewartalk vid) we just got. Tactics? Suggestions? Any thoughts?

The video also shows that the Death Star can be used to attack and destroy the space stations and also ships like Home One which has also finally been confirmed!!! YEAH what a great day for us all!!!

Can the death Star hold it's full complement of 24 squadrons?? If it has it is the ultimate assault tool. Using the superlaser to take out the enemy ships and fighters to destroy the fighters and the weaker capital ships.

My comment on the video from another thread is valid as a response for that Foshjedi:

 

If you listen closely to what he is saying, the implication that you can destroy the station or the ships with the Death Star is very heavy, but there is still a possibility that he is referring to conventional destruction with the fleet. I wish they would stop blowing up planets... we have seen that, I want to see it destroy something else. What gets me is that I haven't noticed how the player tells the Death Star to blow up the planet. All I see is the lever to fire. I haven't noticed a targeting move that would indicate the player had to tell the Death Start that the lever being pulled is to blowup planet. This is why I am skeptical about what his statements meant.

 

And another thing: The ships should have been severly damaged in that blast. Look at how far debris was shot out and how close the fleet action was to the planet in relation. There is technical data on the Death Star's shields and how strong they had to be to withstand the resultant blast of a planet exploding. Anyone else think the tie fighters shouldn't have survived that shockwave that extended past the distant Death Star, not to mention the rest of the fleet?

As far as tactics I don't know what you can use debris for. Maybe they'll just be obstacles, that if you run into them, they will do damage to your ship(s). Maybe you'll be able to hide fighters or small capital ships in the debris from wrecked star destroyers of something for a surprise flank move or something.

And perhaps they would also be an excellent shield, like thrawns tactic of using a tractor beam to hold another ship, using it as a shield to enemy fire. The same idea could be used, if your fav ship is taking a pounding and u need a pressious few seconds to regerate shields, or at least cut the amount of fire power being dished into a ship. Maybe if your fighters are outnumbered, u can hang out and fight in debree, making it more dangerous for the enemy.

when i herd the announcer man talking about this i though it was going to be purely cosmetic. i never would have though of these ideas. :shock:

 

My thoughts exactly. Destroyed ships seemed to drift below the 2d plane of play, so I'm not sure if they'd have any real impact on play at all. Still, I'm guessing it would be some sort of restriction of movement for ships... basically to stop them from crashing into it. Hard to say really.

I think from what we have seen, they will drift to the -1 plane but there is no doubt that it will be alot cooler for the cap ships of a destroyed fleet to be sitting there than to just poof.

 

Anyone know whether or not the debris will be present after the battle? It would be cool to engage the enemy over a system a second time with the hulks of his last encounter with you there to remind him why he should be running. :twisted:

Lol yeah. Say you are on your last planet and a huge fleet comes in and you destroy it all. Then the player will come in with more and more ships creating a graveyard of ships around the planet until you are finally defeated. Would be cool to post screens of it when we finally get the demo or the game. :D

like the idea fosh and has knew one noticed that in the BActa War Book they subtlely challenge us to come up with tactics for the Star Destroyer because apparently all star destroyer tactics are by the book manovures. well we can prove Micheal A. Stackpole wrong about that with this forum .

lol it was for a little bit longer than a while Antilles used to use it as a base of Op's so he used it in all major conflicts that his battle group were involved in he eventually retires and then comes back when the Yuuzhan Vong take Courscant and its a shame he got command of the Mon Mothma but i admit that he did come up with a hell of a lot of tactics while using the Lusankya but its also understandable that he be incommand of it as he and Rogue Squadron took it over.

but did anyone wonder if Booster wanted to take the Lusankya or if the he would give in at the Errant Venture which is an amazing ship. but no one took notice that the Ship got like 50 extra Various Turbolasers from the Lusankya before her Sacrifice at Borleias to kill Tsavong Lah's Father. but i think that wedge was a brilliant tactiction and he deserved to begiven a battle group not to be merged with THAT DARN BOTHAN! no Sien Sovv is in command of the Main fleet as he is the supreme commander of the Fleet after Ackbar. who becomes the MAster of Fleet Tactics in Destiny's way.

Wedge and the remnants of the First FLeet are under Kre'fey but work semi indepedant of him as Wedge is just such a good tactian that it works out better. Farlander is also under Kre'fey's ultimate control but works indepenant at times when Ralroost is off on another mission. that is why ?JAina Solo and the Twin Suns are under Traest Kre'fey not Wedge.

someone asked how the Death Star is fired earlier, its very simple, in fact it is shown in the E3 video. After the DS is within firing range of the planet (or ship/station) there is a lever on the control panel(where you have the controls in most RTSs & where you can see the stats on the unit/units selected) you then drag or click the lever and it will drop down and then the main gun fires. plain and simple

There isn't. They are referring in this thread to the fact that there was proof that the DS would not be able to use the superlaser on capital ships. As for direct turbolaser attacks on and from the DS, looks unlikely, but no answer one way or the other has been offered.
