Recording video ingame

Recommended Posts

Cant believe I haven't mentioned this in the 5 page General topics. I must of in LEC forums. Well then I will now.

1) If this has replay will you watch replays in this whole new different game and see were you went wrong or exploited your strengths in your faction ?

2) If we can record ingame video will you watch it?

3) Would you send these replays to other people ?

Well I save my replays but I never watch them since

1) They're always repeats

2) Bugs

3) Or I get bored with that game

I do watch them when

1) Its the greatest battle of all time in game

2) If its a interesting battle

3) see where I went right or wrong

4) if it was .avi I would watch it constantly

Well Brett mentioned this in one of his videos. I'll go back and see if I actualyl mentioned this  I swear I made a topic about this.

I would be interested if you have to record it in anything other than the normal view or the battle camera. I would like to see a mode where you get to move around the 3D environment fully, so not chosen by the cpu battle cam. Maybe it's not good for actual filming of a good battle during a real game, but in terms of machinima and a choreographed set of events I could see the inability to have freedom close on the battlefield getting annoying for anyone shooting film.

I tend to save any battles vs. a human opponent I know, even if I lose. It's nice to be able to reminisce over them later. I rarely save replays of me vs the AI.

Something what Battlefield 2 does

PLay the game, it gets stored on the server, you finish playin and you download it, watch it, and move around the camera anywhere you want it to

If you want it to be more insulting text it in the video so it can be seen  and also brag about it on MSN. lol.

:P for all we know you've only ever played one game... interactive chess...

Everyone loses sooner or later. You might just have met your match...but only at interactive chess

OK. I lose when I first play games. I lost twice when I was fighting that big ugly Hell dude in Doom 3. I lost loads of times on Doom 1 and 2. I lose loads of times when I'm flying through the DS2 getting to the reactor.

Fosh had to lose in some game since not losing is a myth  Call the Myth Busters

Mythbusters is the best show other than Family Guy.

I never watch my own replays because AI games are boring and I suck at RTS. But I do download other peples and watch those.

Alienware PC: 6000 galactic credits

DSL: 26 galatic credits

EaW: 50 galatic credits

Watching Darth Vader get eaten by Rancor because you never told him to move away and then throwing your computer out the window yelling NOOOOOOOO in your best Vader voice: Priceless

MythBusters is a funny show same with Family Guy. Simpsons has repeats :? and they're starting to suck with these current event jokes.

Marcus sent me 10 replays of Rise Of Nations and I only watched 2 and 1 I downloaded. The one I downloaded was very nicely played out but the rest bored me to death. Even the players games bore me.

My favorite RTS games are ones that span all time periods. I can't wait till I get Empire Earth 2 but I'm more excited about EaW. I watch other people's replays for every game. Age of Mythology, C&C Generals, and Warcraft.

Well then wonder if we can take screenshots ingame and it would be in jpeg form

Mythbusters is better

Stewie says what the Duce alot. I like this part:

Brian: "You should just drop dead! This locks stuck."

Pearl: "You gotta jiggle it like this"

Brian: "Oh, thanks and, uhh, drop dead."

But there are so many funnier ones that you have to see.

Well I wonder if Brett said only can send cinematic recorded or the whole match in general

"Victory is mine"

Brian: You forgot to mention the one where I stop and you smash into the front window

'Brian breaks and car suddenly stops'

'car moves again'

Stewie: I guess I fell for that one

On topic:

I never watched any play-back, much rather play again. But for those who wish to have in-game recording there are several third party programs availble out there. Just use google, for it is your friend

Off-ttopic:

I like Myhtbusters better...

Come on, recording a game with Fraps is no fun. Also imagine the file size of that. 1 minute and 6 seconds only, come to a whopper of 163 recording in Fraps. So lets say a game lasts, ONLY half an hour (it's a short game played), that comes to... 4890Mb for one half an hour play.

So third party recording... I would prefer not.

EDIT: I lie. The file size I gave as an example was compressed (not as well as I would have liked, but compressed none the less). An accurate recording:

Lasts 1.02

File size 313mb

So total of: 9390mb over HALF AND HOUR! Imagine a two hour game...

well there are two major factors.

First Do you really wanna see a 2-5 hour game again?

Secondly if the camera should move around freely then it probally will take up WAY more space on your hd.

Fast forward should be enabled!

And jump to certain points in the replay.

Like lets say its divided in chapters...battle on that, battle on that, space battle at that etc.

Due to the long playtime I doubt we will see anything like Zero hour replay reviewers(www.gamereplays.org) Only the top games might be put out to download.

A free camera wouldn't take up more space, since it would be identical to the way the computer handles filming for the 'battle cam'. It would probably be less hard on the computer than the cpu guessing where the action is constantly.

Also, recorded games in other RTS' are often saved as very small compressed files, so as long as it's not third party file size isn't an issue.

I'd definately want a fast forward (better would be a set speed bar for slow mo to super fast), pause, and like you say the ability to jump to anywhere in the replay.

Didn't Petroglyph (I refer to them, not Lucasarts since they are the ones actually making the game) say that there was an in-game recording system that you could use for making cinematics? Judging by the trailers, we've already seen it in action.

Yes, but all the cinematics we've seen have been have been via the 'battle cam'. They show absolutely footage with any similar human controlled/set up camera. I'd like the freedom to film what I like, not what the computer choses for me.
