Okay, I found out today that .dll stands for Dynamic Link Library.

 

That's it. That's the extent of my knowledge. Those of you with more knowedge feel free to pontificate the marvels of said files to the astonishment of us lesser mortals/Vong.

A DLL can be several things.

In Windows per example, it is a sort of driver

In Rebellion: it's a sort of thing that tells it how to behave, and includes pics and texts

A broader definition would be, that the dll contains resources. These resources can contain a lot of things (dialogs, music, pics, drivers),... although I've never seen a driver dll with other resources in it. You can try other dlls, than just those of Rebellion for finding these kinds of resources as well, you'll sometimes be surprised what you'll find.

Well, a dll is a collection of functions or resources, that more programs can use. So, the advantage is the lower disk space requirement and easier upgrade/maintenance.

The "DLL"-technic ("dynamic link library") is a Software-Technic of MS-Windows and OS/2, which programmroutines in form of a library uses for some sort of accomplishment is needed by a programm

 

Its possible that more than 1 programm can synchronously use that DLL File, which saves resources and avoid errors (but if the error is in the DLL file so all programs with shared use are doing failures)

 

U must imagin a DLL as a reproof to other resources and requirements
