Today marks the frenzy of the NHL's free agent day! All the players who are not under contract are now open to all negotiations. Im dying to see how the New York Rangers do; who they let walk away and who they take in.

NHL is Ice-Hockey, right? I just know that expression from the EA series.

 

But wait a moment. Ice-Hockey in summertime???

Yah. The NHL season lasts from about October (pre-season) to June (Stanley Cup- the finals). Then the free agents are available for negotiating with new teams in July and such.

 

Its interesting from an international perspective because the NHL (US and Canadian teams) are currently having problems with European players and their teams. When the NHL drafts a player from Europe, European teams (particularly Russia right now) argue that they are not properly compensated. For example, the New York Rangers snagged a player from Russia in last years rookie draft, but he has yet to come over because the Russian team is not allowing it, arguing that they were not fairly paid for his departure. Apparently, other European teams are beginning to agree with Russia, and look down on the NHL.

 

So right now is an intense time for the NHL, when teams go about a huge restructuring. For example, the Rangers decided to not re-sign their captain, and have let go a few other players while picking up so new ones, who are very good players. So Im excited for next season.

 

Also, the EA series is the one I swear by. I was not pleased with the 2K NHL series. The controls are very strange and different.

Looks like the NHL is also infested with incest like the european soccer leagues.

 

We also got on the other side american players and trainers for our ice-hockey, baseball and american football teams (The last two mentioned aren´t as popular as the first mentioned over here. But we´ll see what the future brings.). Than there are german players like fe. Dirk Nowitzki playing for american teams. Sounds highly incestous to me. That´s why I prefer championships country vs coutry like the world championships. So every country has its own team consisting of their own elite players. While on the other hand those club-teams depend on how rich they are and able to buy high ranking players. So most times the richest clubs win the championships. That´s not very interesting IMO.

The only time I watch the Olympics is the winter ones, to watch ice hockey. Thats when the players from the NHL play for their respective teams. Its funny, because the U.S. team is horrible since there are not many good players who hail from here.

I was never interested in the olympics. But after I saw those news about the german beach volleyball-team, I ve got the feeling I shouldnt miss any match of those two:

This year's Olympics isn't really about the sports. Everybody is keeping an eye on it for different reasons. (just think about the latest message from Bush)

Arrgh! Totally forgot the time difference between us and China. So if I would like to watch the german female beach volleyball-team (yummy) than I would have to stay up till early in the morning. No way! So I have to record it.

 

BTW just saw the german female hockey-team in the news. There are also some nice ladies in it.

I watched my first Olympic event today... France vs. Angola in handball. I must say, it looks interesting. Ive never seen or heard of the sport before, but it looked really fun. I think the best way to describe it is lacrosse without sticks.

Youve never heard anything about handball? Its surely interesting and exciting to watch. Its a fast kind of game like basketball.

 

Have to agree with LLF. The chinese made an awesome show! I liked that ball which appeared out of nowhere.

The female german athletics dont earn too much medals in that tournament. But in this discipline they earn gold IMO.

Im aware of that false morality. You can see that on youtube fe every day. There are very gory trailers of horror movies which I usually use to flag while you have to login to watch other videos with ridiculous topic and no nudity or violence at all. BTW Ive checked if you know have to login to see those vids I have flagged, but nothing happened. Still every 8 year old child can watch people get decapitated or ripped their guts out of their stomach.

Of course!!! It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I dunno if I will ever see the Cup again. Its really an amazing piece of work. The coolest part was that there was no case or anything around it, so I was allowed to physically touch it. Definitely worth the hour trip there and hour 1/2 trip back (dang traffic).

 

I dont think I'll ever wash my hands again...

So the European Soccer Championship just ended about a month ago and the qualifying matches for the soccer Worldchampionship have just begun. On Saturday our team had a match vs Liechtenstein (lol) which they won with 6:0. And this evening they will have a match vs. Finnland. Honestly I have no clue if they have a good team or not. While ours is just a kind of patchwork at the moment because the coach tries out some new talents whom he will integrate into the team and wants to find out where and if they fit in or if they dont.
