Darth_Rob
Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report "broke" his wrist a few weeks ago, and has been milking it every episode. At first I thought he genuinely broke his wrist in real life, and was just using it for the show. That is, until I watched last night's episode. On the air, he had a "doctor" come on the show in front of the audience and had his wrist cast removed. Colbert then went on to say that he was putting the cast up for auction on ebay. This is the auction here. As of right now, about 1 day since the auction began, it is up to $6,255 U.S. dollars. He put it up for a 10-day auction. I can only imagine what the winning bid will be. So anyways, after seeing this, I began to wonder if it was an actual injury he was just taking advantage of, or if it was all just a plot line that got old, and he decided to do this in order to end it. Not for nothing, but when the cast was removed his hand looked fine, and not pale or dirty or anything else you would imagine from a hand trapped under a cast for several weeks. I mean, he is donating the proceeds to the Yellow Ribbon fund, which supports families of U.S. soldiers, but still. I really wonder if it was all a fabricated storyline or not. PS- I am not bashing Colbert. I watch his show pretty much daily. I just can't comprehend the money people are willing to shell out for his cast. PHSYCOBOB
Because of the celebrity signatures I wouldn't be suprised if it goes for closer to the $100,000 you have as a voting option. =o)

DarthTofu
He may have faked it but at least it will help charity. I can't believe one would pay so much for an old plaster. Ah, but it's an old plaster with a bunch of signatures of famous people on it, and Steven Colbert's sweat upon it! I think he probably really did break it; I voted for option two. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Darth_Rob
Oh yeah, I voted for option 2 also. If that thing brings in more than $50,000 than its a celebrity buying it. And a celebrity buying the item of another celebrity is a scary thought... Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side! Defender_16
I'm not quite so optimistic about it's chances. Less than 25k. He goes for humor and entertainment, I wouldn't be surprised if this were a fraud. At least the money goes to charity, so no harm done. It's certainly possible that he really broke his wrist and just decided to over play it.

Darth_Rob
Its at $16,900 with 4 days to go. I would love to just bid $1,000,000 and then never pay and see what happens. Would Stephen Colbert sue for breach of contract? Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side! Darth_Rob
Not for nothing, but if some guy on ebay can not send me a Wii and get away with it, why cant I decide to reneg on my part of the bargain and not pay for the cast. If you ask me, its all about who's famous. Colbert is famous, so ebay will help him out. Rob is not (yet), thus he gets kicked aside. Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side! DarthTofu
I kind of always opted that there be a "third party" area in those auction sites- IE a spot where money was electronically wired and the objects were shipped to be inspected and then sent on. Less rip-offs that way... 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away

SOCL
According to what I've read and the actual reports that showed up, he actually broke his wrist. I don't think that he would come up with such a random publicity stunt; granted, he does random things, but they're always silly and sometimes stupid random things, but this was clearly out of the blue and I believe quite true. In any event, I could care less--the money is going to good cause. Much more than whoever manufactured those stupid yellow ribbon magnets or most people who say they support the troops and therefore must support the troops have ever done for the troops. Darth_Rob
Well, the auction ends at midnight tonight, which is about 4 hours away. The cast is still stuck at $16,900. I dont think its gonna hit the $50,000 like I thought... Edit:Well it sold for $17,200 in the end. Im kinda surprised. I really thought it would have gone for at least $25,000. Now I gotta watch his show tomorrow night and see what he says about it. Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side! PHSYCOBOB
Winning bid: US $17,200.00 So I was way off as the one that voted for more than $100,000. =o)
Darth_Rob
I wonder who bought the cast. Who has $17,000 extra bucks to throw away on that?! My guess is that its someone eccentric. budious
Haha... my bid of 17,200 won!!! Budious places the Colbert Wrist Cast in his celebrity memorability showcase right between Dale Earnhardt's Hans neck guard and Rosie O'Donnel's tub of Crisco. Darth_Rob
Its just that there is so much other stuff I would rather spend $17,000 on. Like a sweet pool table. Or a PS3. Or even paying for the rest of my schooling and apartmenting... Edit:Right on the heels of Colbert's comes something far crazier...Michael Vick's Apology NotesGet it now while the bidding is hot.
