They first appeared in an Advanced Dungeons & Dragons module called 'Halls of the Fire Giant King,' (lurking on level three), I suspect only only farts like Tex and myself would originally remember, and subsequently in Descent in to the Depths of the Earth, Shrine of the Koa-Toa, Vault of the Drow, and Queen of the Demon Web Pits. All written by Gary Gyjax (or however you spell his name)Ah yes indeed! I took it off of Wookiepedia's article on- erm, the pertinent person (Don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read anything yet).
