You know, I really hate the movie theatres. They are so ridiculous its not even funny. It costs $8.50 for me to see a movie at my house, though up at college it's only $5.50. And then there's the concession stand. What a load of crap it is to charge $10.00 for a popcorn and soda, and thats if you get the "value combo".

But there is one other thing that infuriates me to no end. It started a few months ago, but now the theatre in my hometown shows COMMERCIALS before the movie. So not only do I have to sit through 5-6 trailers (which usually suck), but before that I have to watch commercials for Levis jeans and Coca Cola, and some hair spray brand. It is so nuts. You would think that if the theatres are getting more income from advertising, then they would lower prices elsewhere (like maybe the freakin popcorn). But no. Instead they are just further lining their pockets. Grrrr...it gets me sooo mad!!!

Holy crap- your popcorn is only ten bucks! I thought you lived in New York? It's twelve here in Florida, and we've had those commercials before the movie for a good six years or so... I just don't go to the movies very often- rent the movie from Blockbuster, I say. Edited by DarthTofu

Unfortunately now that every movie has to have millions of dollars in special effects, it costs more to produce. And that means it costs to buy the rights to display the movie. Which means more costs for the customer to watch in the movie theater...

I dislike going to the theatre too. Too expensive, bad movies and after a while you cant sit anymore. Because everything hurts, your legs, your back, your b... .

BTW we´ve got about half a hour of commercials since I can think of. :(

Who cares at all?!

The commercials only take about 10 minutes, I just usually arrive 5 minutes after the movie is schedualed. That should do the trick! I can't remember there NOT being commercials before the movies and I've been going for 10-12 years... trust me they grow on you...

As for the popcorn, they know they can charge you that much because they know that you'll buy it... we are addicted to those roasted pieces of corn!

Only on rare occasions will I even think of going ot the theater, and even then it takes a lot of convincing. The seats are terrible, the concession stand is expensive, and most importantly, I alwats manage to sit next to the ingrate who CAN"T STOP TALKING.

So if you go to the theater, smuggle in drinks and snack, bring a small pillow for the seat (the seats at my theater offer no back support, so I place one at the small of my back), and bring a tazer for the talkers.

I once knew a great man. Nothing got to him, and he always smiled. May he forever rest in peace, knowing fully well that his freinds shall remember him.

Art Movie Theaters in Budapest are quite cool. Really small theaters with not too much seats, more intelligent visitors. In fact being "art-movie" is a good filter against always-munching children (plus the whole family with Dad explaining everything), and wannabe-cool teenagers, loud laughing idiots. Overall it's more comfortable and much lesser people. If there is a film that is being played in art-theaters too, I rather choose them. 8) But I'm still a cool dude! :D

Well okay, I'm not sure that these theaters ever played any SW movies...

Out where I am the theaters are nice.

seven dollars for a movie and three for popcorn and a soda isn't so bad compared to substitute wasters of time.

Disregarding all new evidence everywhere.

I always smuggle munchies in if I plan to take them. It isn't good for the consesions buisness at my theater, but hey, it was A) Their decision to jack up prices way too high and B) They deserve it for being stupid enough to open shop right next door to a candy shop!

I rarely go to the theatre, but then we didnt have a local threatre for most of the past 5 years. I had to drive an hour either to Ottawa or Kingston to see movies at the Cineplex. Only a few were ever worth the trip.

Lord of the Rings, The Prequel Episodes, etc.And even then we were better off just waiting for it to come out on video or DVD and rent it half the time.

I hate most theaters in my area as they are way too expensive.. i think every theater i have ever been to has been too expensive except for one really... i went to one that only cost me 20 bucks total! thats for two tickets two cokes and a popcorn... talk about freakin cheap! I was floored when it dawned on me... both tickets alone only cost me $9.50... crazy huh?

hehehe.. that would be nice to have... unfortunately here i have yet to see a theater with anything besides cola, water, beer, coffee or icee's (or some variation of.. freeze frame, etc.) ... the beer and coffee were only at a "adults only" theater... meaning alcohol is served so no one under 18 allowed and regular movies shown..

8O WOW! Were they showing old movies or something like that???

I couldn't get one ticket for that price...

Still its much niucer to simply organise a DVD night with some mates.

Indeed that is more fun, but there is just something special about going to a movie theater. :)

nope.. it was actually something called a Tinseltown here.. which is a normal theater that boasts stadium seating and big screens... their screens are larger than those in typical AMC theaters... anyways... i agree with you Mad... but only kinda on a limited basis... there are those movies that you just HAVE to see in the theaters... like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas... that was jus wicked in the theaters...

Just what I was saying!

Yes Fear and Loathing was way cooler in the theater :P One of Depp's finest movies by the way... :D
