I know what you mean. I've never had to deal with it to anything near the extent you are right now, but on a minor scale its happened to me before (stupid sisters). What's even worse is when they do so on purpose, fully aware of how to manipulate the people around them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sure sounds like that's what your ex is doing...

My mother is doing much the same thing to my father as your ex is doing to you. It pisses the hell out of me. I don't talk to her anymore because of it. It kinda sucks though, because it means I don't talk to my bros as much as I'd like to/should.

Let me explain first. My mother took out a restraining order against my father shortly after I moved out of the house. What it said was Mom and Dad are to have absolutely NO contact. This is part of the order she doesn't seem to understand. In the 15 months the order has been in effect she has called him about 10 times. Also included in the order is a rule saying that Dad cannot contact any of the boys that live with her, which is all 5 of my brothers. They can initiate contact whenever they want, but he can't call just to say hi. That would be just fine. The problem is that she only has a cell phone. SO, if the boys want to talk to Dad they have to go through her to get the phone. They all know what she thinks of Dad and don't want to have to hear it anymore. I've told her flat out before that I would stop talking to her if she continued to bad mouth him in front of me (or my brothers and I found out about it). Dad has talked to the rest of the boys MAYBE 5 times since Dec. of 2004. And 2 of those times they were talking on MY cell phone when I went to Seattle to visit them. I called Dad while I was there and when I was done talking to him I asked if they wanted to talk. Mom has Peter so brainwashed into believing that his father is such a dirty bastard that he didn't even want to talk the first time I called from their house.

 

Another thing my mother can't seem to figure out, despite multiple judges telling her, is that child-support and visitation are 2 seperate and distinct issues. They are completely independent of each other. Dad is behind on his child-support. He's been going through financial difficulties for several years as he struggles to get his chiropractic business off the ground. (So if anyone decides to move to the Twin Cities PM me and I'll give you the name of a really good Chiro you can go see. )

 

Mom isn't the only one who is to blame in this situation, but Dad is being the adult, so I'm siding with him (when I take sides, that is...).

 

To answer your direct question Scath, my bros are 22, 16, 12, 11 and 9.

Yeah. She's basically abusing the system to carry out a personal vendetta. Come time, she'll lose, it's just the hassle, strain, and frustration (not to mention destruction of my reputation) getting there that eats at me.

It actually is a Order of Protection ex parte, better known as a restraining order. The one currently on is temporary until a hearing takes place next week where I'll be able to give my side of the story. I'm confident that when the judge hears my side and sees everything I've done to totally purge this girl from my life, he'll laugh in her face...well, maybe not that, but I'm confident he'll drop it. So technically I am currently forbidden from writing on my blog, though the cop said only in regard to "slandering her name"--she claims I slandered her name when in my blog I wrote she had been unfaithful to me, which is true. In any event, he said I could go on writing, but that any misinterpretation or misunderstanding could land me in a mess of trouble (i.e. arrest). Basically, if she says I did something, even if I didn't (just like what has already happened), they won't ask quesitons, won't try to verify it, until after I'm in cuffs and behind bars.

 

 

Jeez, man, after hearing your story, Mitth, mine pales in comparison. Sorry to hear that has all happened. You ever need to talk or vent, man, know I'm here for you.

Mith, dude, keep your chin up, though you sound like you have been for a while now, and speak sense from your point of view. I just think it's a shame for your younger bro's who might not be old enough to realize the blinkered 'bad vibe' going on between your folks, or your mum at least, is ultimately using them as pawns, in what sounds like the clash of blades in a duel of broken love... and it's the kids, by definition, who would actually benefit from 'adult behavior,' hanging up a few hang-ups, and looking out for them... I guess...

Wow, I just read through all ten pages of this topic, and what a roller coaster ride!

 

@SOCL: That's a tought situation indeed my friend. I've recently (about a month ago) gone through a break up (though initiated by me), and I'm certainly glad nothing to the extent of what has happened to you has happened to me. I know that the legal system will exhonorate you. It's also good that your educational life seems to be getting back on track (I think I read that somewhere in there ). (This post has been brought to you in colour to make it easier to read)

 

@Mitth: It seems I can sympathise with you as well Mitth. I've gone through similar experiences over the past decade or so. It's always hard when you get caught between two sides of your family .

 

To bring this slightly back on-topic, I work for Island Inkjet. We refill empty printer cartridges for a fraction of the price (usually about 50-60% cheaper than an OEM cartridge). It's not a half-bad job for a student as it pays $9.00/hour with about 40 hours/week.

J, I know my mom is using my bros as pawns. It's just a part of her nature. She's a manipulative bitch. To get the original restraining order she took somethings my dad had said completely out of context.

 

Tofu, no harm, no foul, NO APOLOGY ACCEPTED! You don't need to apologize to me for any insult. Ever. I don't want you pity either, and you don't need to offer it as I live with my dad's mom. I have family to spend time with over breaks. My mom's biggest problem with Dad is money.

 

My advice to all members, lurkers and regular posters alike, is talk to any/all potential spouses about money BEFORE you get married. Make sure you are both looking at the same book. Reading off the same page is better, but at least be in the same book.

No, because she knew that if she tried to do that I would come in and give the courts details about the times I've witnessed her manipulate people. No, she took some things that my dad said out of context. At my youngest brother's confirmation Dad went up to stand in and Mom came up to tell him to sit down, JUST to spite him. (She had been kicked out of the church by this time, I don't know why...) His response to her order/request was something like, "You'll regret this. Some day, after you've driven your children away from you, you will look back on this day and regret this." She then repeated her request. After that he said something like, "You're going to die and old lonely bitter woman. You're going to die [and here he said something else looking towards the future when her family realized how manipulative she is and got away from her]." He did not threaten her. I emphasized that sentence to explain the next one. In her petition for a restraining order she wrote something to the effect of "He threatened to kill me. He said, 'You're going to die... You're going to die....'"

 

I tried to talk to her about it when I went to Seattle to visit around Thanksgiving time (the end of November) last year. It quickly degenerated into her yelling at me followed by me yelling back. After I got tired of being yelled at (just one of the reasons I moved out of the house...) I got up and walked out. I got back to her house after having spent close to 2 hours walking around a Seattle suburb I didn't know my way around in.

What I alway fail to grasp is what divorced/divorcing people exactly want to achieve when they try to deny their kids one of their parents...

Not so hot. The office building got hit by a school bus and they were short of business for about 6 weeks. He's starting to build up his patient base though, so that is good.

You know, suddenly my problems don't seem so bad anymore. It could just be that I'm growing wise in my old age. Then again, it could have something to do with you guys having much worse things to deal with... yep, probably that.

 

For what its worth, I'm sorry you two have to deal with this kind of crap. I can't offer advice, seeing as how I've never gone through this sort of thing, but I still feel for ya.

 

(Oh and Mitth, my girlfriend lives in a suburb of Minneapolis... what's your dad's business called? I might be able to drum up some business for him, seeing as how I know people in the area and am actually leaving in ten minutes to visit )
