budious Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Explain this in detail for the non-galaxy enriched players!? "In the future it will become easier for old negatives to become lost and be 'replaced' by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten." - George Lucas, 1988. [u.S. Congressional hearing testimony on film preservation.] My old Rebellion site (very web 1.0) - Bud's Korner and Rebellion Strategy
General_Crespin Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 As I understand it, instead of having to connect to an official SOE server to play Galaxies, a person can set up this server emulator so they can do whatever they want, play with whomever they want, stuff like that. Like an N64 emulator or whatever. http://crespin.xwlegacy.net/pics/Shadowkeeper99a.jpg
SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted March 1, 2006 SWR Staff - Executive Posted March 1, 2006 Some MMORPGs do have their own private servers. Such as Lineage 2 ... using a leaked version of the official server. How these people are planning to do SWG, I have no idea. The site doesn't say anything. I don't understand how it emulates the server.. it is not like a console that you emulate. You actually need the code for the SWG server to use it. I seriously doubt SOE or LucasArts would be happy about it Evaders99http://swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif Webmasterhttp://swrebellion.com/images/banners/swcicuserbar.png Administrator Fighting is terrible, but not as terrible as losing the will to fight.- SW:Rebellion Network - Evaders Squadron Coding -The cake is a lie.
AdmiralToguroAni Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Its called packet logging, I think. You use a program that writes down the codes as you play the regular game so you have all the details of it. Lucas wouldn't be happy, admittedly, but its a European group thats doing this overseas, so even if they want to sue, it'll be awhile before they get all the legal kinks out. This stuff is done all the time with MMOs. Ultima Online, Everquest, and World of Warcraft all have their own emulators. SWG has some stuff in it that makes it hard to read, but hopefully these guys will get it to work. Count Dooku is the strongest Star Wars character as depicted in the movies. All hail Christopher Lee.
kdawg150 Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 And it's pre-CU woohoo! I loved galaxies back before the combat upgrade, and then I think it lost most of it's flavor and depth afterwords, so I'll really be watching this.
VoDkA64 Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I've played SWG since 2003, and I still love it. I'd like to play on a private server with friends though! (most of my friends used to play but were alienated by NGE)
Zeridian Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I know this is a big bump on the forum, but if you guys haven't tried Galaxies before you should. The emulator is built from scratch by people all of the US and around the world, while the server is somewhere near Chicago I think. On the main page there may not be a big explanation, but if you go on the forums and also read the facts, you will get pretty much all you need to know. SOE destroyed our game, now the community is rebuilding it and there is nothing legally they can do about it as they never stated that one couldn't use another server. I hope some of you guys come over and check it out, we are always looking for help and it's a great community to be with.
