valen_sl Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 OK, so I have downloaded some new models from this site. They all have a .x extention. What do I do with them? Is there a help guide somewhere that people can point me towards? Once I learn this I am going to turn my head at creating my own models. I am planning to create a Babylon 5 TC with all new charactors, models, missions troops, cards, etc. Exciting times....
the_mask Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 If you already downloaded my models, then you should also have seen that guide from me ... wait ... the downloads here are not complete anymore ! I did change all the links to point at my new site's location, maybe that still needs to be completed. Until that is done dowload the rest directly from my site http://kickme.to/woodsboro/ (game select->Rebellion->Models) Happy gamin http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 Is it working for you or are you still having any trouble? Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
valen_sl Posted March 6, 2003 Author Posted March 6, 2003 I downloaded the MS 3d viewer but I can't view the files (I wanted to do this before installing them) Once I see the new models I'll then try to install them
ElvisMiggell Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 Hmmm, im not sure that there is a viewer, i don't know of one, i guess you'd need the editing tools to see it without installing it to the game, you'd need to ask Mask about that... valen_sl Posted March 6, 2003 Author Posted March 6, 2003 I downloaded the D3D Viewer from http://kickme.to/woodsboro/ It says you can use this to view the .x files
the_mask Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 You need to delete the rotating MS logo first, then you'll see the model. Also, you can load the models with Lith, that's way better http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
valen_sl Posted March 6, 2003 Author Posted March 6, 2003 Decided to use Lith. Wow, those models are really good. Going to try to use them in a game. Once I have worked out how to do that then I'm going to venture into the world of creating models. As I said earlier in this thread I'm going to try to create a B5 TC for Rebellian. Going to start simple, maybe a Nova Dreadnought. The fun will start when I try to create a Omega destroyer. Am I right in thinking these models can't have moving sections i.e. the rotating mid-section of the Omega? If I'm right I may have to go for a diagonal angle to simulate the rotating.
ElvisMiggell Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 Glad it works for you. Best of luck with the models, we'd love to hear how they go. Maybe you'd like to get involved in our tc if you get the hang of it. Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Yes, models in Rebellion don't have animation. It would be awesome if they did...when you get a working model of the Nova, post it here so we can see your handiwork! valen_sl Posted March 10, 2003 Author Posted March 10, 2003 Don't get too excited just yet. Bear in mind that I am a complete newbie to modeling. Its going to take some time....but a nova dreadnought is the easiest B5 ship I can think of. Whats the best program to use to create models? Any free software? Any dimentions I should stick to. A Nova Dreadnought is a mid-large sized vessel for the models I intend to eventually create. I am planning to base the mod on series 4 during the Earth civil war. Having the EA as the Empire with Coruscant as Earth and Yavin as Epsolan 3 (cloud city to be moved as B5) The ships I eventually plan to create are. Omega Destroyers (Both sides)Nova Dreadnoughts (Both sides)Hyperians (Both sides)Olympus corvetts (Both sides)Whitestars (Alliance/B5)Omega-X (Empire/EA) - top level shipMinbari Cruiser (Alliance/B5) - top level shipGOD salellites (Empire/EA) I want to use some of the league ships but don't want to over power the B5 side. I may make the Empire/EA side ships cheaper to build to make up for this. Starfury fighter (Both sides)Thunderbolt (Empire/EA)Nial fighter (Alliance/B5) I am struggling to think of enough charactors for the EA. I have plenty of B5. Any suggestions grateful!
the_mask Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 And so, it begins... Whats the best program to use to create models? Any free software? Any dimentions I should stick to. A Nova Dreadnought is a mid-large sized vessel for the models I intend to eventually create. - Errm, free ? Hmmm... Gmax would be easy to use, but I don't know where to get a plugin that lets it export to 3ds, that would be ideal. Others ... hmmm ... Milkshape, Rhino ? But these are just 30 day trials and not really free, sorry. -It is possible for DirectX models to have animations, but I don't think Rebellion's engine supports that feature. -Bester and Franklin's dad for the EA ? http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 Wow, i've really got to get back into B5, i haven't watched any in absolutely ages! Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
