Guest Scathane Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 Is it their shape? Is it their size? Is it the SSD? What makes them so attractive? By the way, were ships like the Bulwark Battle Cruiser made up for Rebellion of do they have other connotations that I'm not aware of?
the_mask Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 Well I think the Bulwark, Dauntless, Liberator, CC-7700, CC-9600, ... were just made up for Rebellion. The CC-7700 was later used in a book by Bel Iblis against Daala, so it has been officially sanctioned, I guess. But the whole idea about the being made up has a flaw:Where exactly do we draw the line ? If we draw it after the movies, then there'll be no Thrawn, no Yuuzhan Vong, no Jedi Academy, ... well, you get my point. So, my view is this: these officially sanctioned ideas are 'real' in the StarWars universe. Although I would've liked to have a Dauntless or Bulwark mentioned in the books. The way its there, you could think the whole Alliance/NR fleet consists of MonCal ships, frigates, corvettes and gunboats. A bit more diversity would benefit the whole story, I think. It's a big universe after all, so there is likely to be a vast number of different ships as well, although the Empire kept surpressing all the aliens. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Guest Scathane Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 What do you mean, no Yuuzhan Vong? The Yuuzhan Vong are set in the time of the New Jedi Order, which starts after Episode VI, right? So if you draw the line after the movies, you still get to have Yuuzhan Vong? (it may be noted that I'm not an avid Star Wars novel reader)
the_mask Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 What I meant was, that all these ideas are from books, games, ... and if you drew the line after the movies these great ideas, that helped to keep the Star Wars universe alive so long wouldn't be in it. Btw, I'm also at the beginning of the Yuuzhan Vong books (finished Agents 1 of chaos a while ago) and from what I grasp, the first Vong scouts entered this area of space in the time of the Old Republic. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Guest Scathane Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 Ah, I see. It makes sense, then. Well, I would like to think that you take into account the enire EU. Especially for a game: it would give individual players room to adjust things to their whim.
Tsunami Posted April 29, 2003 Posted April 29, 2003 Mask:In what book did Bel Iblis fight Daala? (I though I knew every single book, dammit. ) The picture of a Liberator was used somewhere for Garris Shrike's freighter, but it was just for appearance. It's all hopeless but otherwise not very dramatic. - Helme Haffax Englishman: "What do you think of Modern Civilization?"Mahatma Gandhi: "That would be a good idea."
the_mask Posted April 29, 2003 Posted April 29, 2003 I read somewhere that this happened in 'Planet of twilight' (http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/0553575171/qid=1051613202/sr=1-191/ref=sr_1_2_191/028-8781813-4783701), although I don't really remeber this one. I read it in January '99, while I was in a hospital and only surrounded by people way over 60, who constantly cheated at Queens . It was so dull and tranquilizing, that not even a Star Wars book could make my days worthwile. Think I'll have to read that one again, after the 3 NJO books, that just arrived last week http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
