X-Wing CD version - sound files inside

As you know, we still are searching for our main voice actor, the Mon Calamari advisor for the NR. Until we find one, I've tried to hack my X-wing CD version, where Ackbar speaks a lot during the briefings. He has his sound files stored in: XWINGCD\TALK\ACKBAR

The file extensions are hidden under such: .p01, .p02, .p03.....

I've tried to play it as .wav files, but that didn't work. Does anyone know, how to convert it back to wav files?

I assume, these files are compressed.

I d/l your file to desktop, and renamed extension to .wav and loaded into winamp, plays it just fine

Its a specific Creative sound file, I had a converter at some point. If Winamp can read it, you already have a codec for it, just output to a wav or mp3 then

I've managed to open it with Goldwave,it seems they are stored in "voc" format. It can play the files perfectly. Well anyway, this is the voice we are looking for

Speaking of sound files, and forgive me if I asked this before, but does anyone know of a way to convert wav files to something far less large? I copied some x-wing alliance tunes onto my HD and the file-sizes are huge.

Well you could convert them to .mp3 or .ogg format using Goldwave. That should considerably reduce there size.

If Goldwave isn't free, you can also try Audacity - which requires free plugin to convert to MP3 (the instructions are on the site).

Winamp will do it just fine. I also recommend CDex
