I just had to tell this story. As many of us know, retailers released Microsofts new XBox 360 today. But heres my story, coming from the front the Walmart I work for.

The facts:

- The store had 12 systems

- They were to be put on the shelf at 2am this morning (Tuesday)

(its a 24 hour store)

What happened:

As of 4:30pm on SUNDAY, a customer walks into the electronics department with a camping chair, sets it up in the middle of the aisle, and states his intentions to wait there until the XBox is put on the shelves. As of 7am Monday morning, the number had grown to 8. The guys were sitting there, sipping their coffee, awaiting the 2am unveiling. By the time I left at 4pm Monday, the number of people had grown to 28!!! Now remember, we only had 12 systems in stock. Wether employees did not tell them (they might not have been allowed to release that information) or that the customers were told but chose not to leave regardless is not known. So to make a long story short, as of 4pm yesterday, the electronics department was overflowing with nerds and losers awaiting their system. I'm sorry, but anyone who camps out in a store overnight for a freakin video game is insane and ridiculous!!!

I also contacted the local newspaper, who were amazed at the events. They actually came down and it made the front page today!!! (goes to show how much news we get up here in the sticks)

On a side note, I hit up the Best Buy on my way home. They had a line as well, but their store did not release the XBox until 9am this morning. And Best Buy is apparently cruel (and I totally agree with what they did) by making the people wait OUTSIDE in the freezing rain!!! So there was a line of about 20 people outside the Best Buy the entire night for this freakin piece of garbage!!! It's ridiculous!!!

I'll post when I get off work tomorrow and let everyone know how the night went when the customers waiting for hours at a time realized that they were not leaving the store with a damn thing!!!

I heard something that no store would have more than 50 of them, due to limited amount produced to be distributed in a global release.

I guess each store would have their own limit.. (and if some of the store employees decided to get first-dibs.. hehe)

I might actually wait in freezing rain for a system... If only for the fact that I could sell it for over twice what I bought it for on E-bay  Otherwise, waste of time. 1) I suck at most video games that require you to move any stick in any way shape of form (Minds out of the gutters, please, if the word 'stick' got you thinking), 2) My folks are mortally opposed to video games because they "Waste your brain to green Jell-O" and 3) heck, those stores are cold. Very cold. I don't like waiting in cold stores. :?

I waited in line for 2 hours back in 1999 when Nintendo was giving away a rare pokemon that would only be available on that day. At least they waited for something with cash value.

Oh well. I got my Mew! Muahaha!

If I worked at a gaming store I would sell the systems not to the people who waited but to the people who just happened to walk in at the right time... Just out of spite...

My store only recieved four (4) systems total, and all of them were the delux, or whatever, version priced at $499. My local EB had 38 pre-orders, but only recieved 12 systems. The ironic part is that most of the systems in my city were grabbed by places like Micro Play and Blockbuster to rent out. Very few actual consumers managed to nab one.

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

I bought a playstation 1 when Dark Forces came out way back when. And to show what a Rebellion fan I am, I switched from Macs to PC's just so I could buy the game when it originally came out. (At the time I had 6 various Mac systems set up which I then donated to my niece).-Grand Moff Conway

Dammit! I just realized what a fool I was! I wanted to make one of those poll options a positive one, but I ended up making two anti-XBox ones. Oh well. Did anyone wait around for one? And I must say Tofu, that is a great idea. If I managed to get my hands on one, that bastard would be on ebay in a heartbeat!

Can't be bothered. The only systems i buy on release are the Nintendo ones and I don't actually go and wait in front of the store. I simply buy them if i am passing by.

Anyway most of the time i buy them a year later when the price is about half of what it used to be.

I'm guessing you enjoy the 'Games for Cheap Bastards' section on X-Play if you watch G-4, don't you? My parents were always cruel when I was smaller- they told me that Christmas came in january- when it was cheap to get presents for us and all of the good stuff was gone! /me me falls down shaking and cryin over past childhood tramas. And AdmiralToguroAni, I can only ask you this: WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?!?!?!?!?!/1/1/1/1/!?!?!?!/1/ Pokemon had to be the biggest waste of time ever! Honestly, did anyone even have any idea how to play the stupid game?

You were 7 when Pokemon first came out, so I don't really know if you knew how to play it as well as I did. The GBA games are really fun, and perfect for those long car trips.

You're right in that its a waste of time, but so is hanging out on the forums all day long for a 7 year old game, as is spending hours making mods for it. The point is that its amusing and harmless to others. 50 years from now, Reloaded will be long gone, as will Pokemon and many other things we enjoy, yet we do them for our amusement (and in Reloaded's case, to provide amusement to others).

So, playing a video game is simply for amusement, whether its Star Wars: Rebellion or Pokemon. Its true that many people spent lots of money on Pokemon products, and that may be a difference. Then again, how much is amusement worth? If you spend your own money and get enjoyment out of the object, then its worth it. "Money is only money until you spend it." But what if your parents pay for it...?

Look at the reloaded team. Most likely, they work as hard as they do for two reasons: for their own amusement and sense of satisfaction, and to provide amusement to others. They do all this work and receive no monetary reward, yet rather than call them idiots or morons, we praise them and tell them to keep up the good work. They like our praise and as Evaders has shown us by banning Plo Koon after he criticized the project, are very offended by criticism. In short, they think that all the hard work that they are doing is worthwhile if YOU, the player, appreciates it. Hm...how does this relate to the topic  ?

Parents wait in line for days or hours because they get the same sense of satisfaction from seeing their kid open an X-Box 360 as the Reloaded team will when we download their project. Things that we have no interest in (Pokemon to Tofu) don't make sense to us, yet the truth is that our interests often appear equally strange to others.

If you couldn't be bothered to read all that, just take this away--waiting in line for an Xbox or in my case for a pokemon, isnt a sign of stupidity, but rather a sign that they love their hobby as much as you do.

Sorry, no meaning to offend! No bity me head off! 8O I guess I was just kinda resentful to the thing when I was seven since I was kinda made an outcast for not having them and it was pretty idiotic in a small Island off of the coast of Florida. So yeah, didn't mean to offend!

Alright. This is what went down at Walmart.

After they went on sale, two police officers escorted two customers at a time to the other end of the store, where they purchased the Xbox. Then the two police officers escorted the customers to their cars so they could drive away safely. However, this didn't stop customers who could not snag a Xbox from harassing the buying customers, threatening to "cut them in the parking lot" and whatnot. Amazing.

And our local Best Buy turned out to be quite the crook. When they opened their doors to the Xbox maniacs, they had upped the price. The $300 system was now $515, and the $400 system was now $735!!! And of course the morons bought them!!! Simply ridiculous. But yeah, the only reason I would want one is to resell it on ebay! That is crazy!!!

I'm wondering when the randsome notes will start to appear.

"If u ever want 2 see ur Z-bow 360 (Trade Mark, Restricted, Copyright, ect.) again, l33v3 1,000,000,000 in teh park under teh red bench. Come alone."

Come to think of it, that isn't a bad idea...

Humans are indeed curious animals. If you wait a year the retail price will probably halved...

Anyway, my problem with game-consols is you can't mod or manipulate the games.

YOU THINK THATS SAD! A guy waited 55 hours for an xbox 360 THEN SMASHED IT WITH A SLEGE HAMMER! http://www.smashmyxbox.com/

Now thats kinda stupid because he could have at least left it for somebody who really wanted it!

I must also say that another reason for waiting is that if you wait Micro$ith will have time to correct the multiple system bugs.

Edor, please tell me that the "Owned" refers to the bidder getting owned and not to you owning that thing after paying 660 dollars for it.

I just gotta say about the guy with the sledgehammer. He's simply making a point about how ridiculous people are that we are willing to go to the extremes just to get a piece of machinery. I think it's awesome, and would love to do it, except I would be scared that the nerds witnessing the act would snap and attempt to input their foot up my bottom!
