As far as i'm aware dude, you don't! The capitol ships equiped with tractor beams just sort of use them automatically in the tactical game-to hold target ships in place whilst they obliterate them with their banks of turbolasers...drool...drool...grin.... I would have thought, and with some experiance of seeing what happens when you seriously up the value of tractor beams on Star Destroyers with RebEd, rebel...gob... ships sort of stop when you target one of them with the Star Destroyer.

Curious point here for any of you who think the Carrak-cruiser is a load of crap with its forward turbolaser rating of 5 or however low it is, it's treactor beam is 6! Thats more than a Star Destroyer! I definatly would not like to confront the player who has sussed how effective a swarm of Carraks holding rebel ships in place is with the back up of ISDs to pound those rebel ships going nowhere is... :!:

An excellent point! Carracks are very deadly when used en masse with some Star Destroyers. Not only that, but Carracks also provide the only starfighter protection the Empire gets at the beginning of the game (for the newbies: laser cannons are much more deadly against starfighters than turbolasers).

Back to the point: ships will use their tractor beams against the ship they are targetting. The tractor beam shows up as a blue "haze" around the targetted ship. Depending on the power of the targetted ship, the tractor beam can slow down or completely stop an enemy ship...or it can do nothing if the targetted ship is more powerful!

No, tractor beams in Rebellion only effect capital ships.

I suppose you've also seen the "red haze" effect around ships...that's just to show which ships have gravity well projectors.

I hope this helps! :D

No. Though I wish you could have the option to turn them off.

Say, i've been brooding on this, and reckon there should be a point where gravity wells shut down when the ship has taken a certain amount of damage, like in the grphic novel: 'The Phantom Affair.'

Anyway, speaking of Tractorbeams:

Are you sure about that tractor beams have no effect on fighters? I think the (tractor beam attacked) fighter will loose maneuverability (an ISD can hold an Y- wing in place) and suffer more damage than usual. But this is only my theory.

Hi Bill (your last name isn't F.Gates, right ?).

Your ships use this automatically. Just get some ships with tractors close to an enemy ship and you'll see that blue aura around it. You'll notice, that the enemy ship is also stuck from that point (until of course, it blast the ship with the tractors away  )

Then again without the CC-7700 Frigate, those Imperial SCUM usually just flees from my horde of Corellian Corvettes :twisted::twisted:

You're a Corellian Corvette type of guy, AHe?

well in my opinion everything that hails from Corellia is gonna be cool, and the fact that with 1 or 2 shipywards you can build a Corvette in 54 days you can get a rather big fleet up pretty fast... and with Carriers you got a pretty decent fighter fleet too (It all comes down to those small buggers ;)) when I'll get to the point when I'll get the Liberator Cruiser I'll build a lot of those too. never build the Balwark Cruisers.. just not worth it

My prefered ships/fleets formula is this:

stick to Corellian Corvettes (and Gunships), Carriers who are later replaced by Liberator Cruisers, Mon Cal ships for bigger fire power and off course the always popular CC-7700 Frigate, can't have that those Imps are running away everytime :twisted:

Thank you for the information, mr the_mask. I usually don't see the blue aura because I'm usually kicking some empire butt.
