The Brainstorming Thread

Recommended Posts

I thought it might be a useful tool to have a thread where we can simply bounce random thoughts and ideas off of eachother, a kind of brainstroming thread. So here we go...

Hmm, well its possible I suppose, but we don't want to get too carried away too quickly. We need to find out our limits...for that we need a Pythin specialist.

Maybe we could integrate a kind of factory building.

Their would be one per battlefield and each sside could fight it to take over.

Once it has been taken over by one of the two sides its commander may produce units with it (of course he would have to wait a moment before the unit is ready, the Delay would depend on the size and power of the vehicule.).

This could add an interessting new stategie side to the game

Example:

Shall i take the factory first or shall i use my forces to attack the enemy while they take the factory?

RPG elements...hmm. Maybe that whenever you destroy a ship ship or unit you would receive a certain amount of experience. With it you could boost your characters capacities such as: Resistance (can sustain more injuries), Dexterity(when firing machine guns in continuous fire your aim doesn't move as much) Speed (your character may move faster) vigilance and stealth (if your character has a higher vigilance rating than an enemi character's stealth well the enemy shall be surrounded by a small aura)

I also think we should try and improve the flying using the mouse. It works but it needs some getting used to. I think we should make it more instinctive maybe by replacing the mouse by the arrow keys?

These are just a few ideas. What do you think?

In addition to factory buildings, maybe we can introduce more commander elements? I was thinking if we could, add NPC vehicles? That way instead of having stationary buildings you could blow up with C4 you would have mobile vehicles the commander can move around.. for example the Loratus Scanner Jammer (UAV), Loratus Mobile Proton Torpedo Launcher (artillery), and Imperial Mobile Artillery (artillery).

NPC vehicles would also solve the problem of there only being 32 players a side maximum and you wanting lots of capships and dogfights.

If we do it the right way it could add a very interessting side to the game.

But we must be careful to not turn this into a Commander vs Commander battle.

It never is Commander vs Commander.. for example in Savage, the commander had NPC resource harvesters and NPC Buildings he could pump stuff out of :).

But if you guys agree we need someone to find out whether its possible to script this.. NPCs might have to be a bot slot, or maybe not :). But yeah, then we could include a ton of little support craft like CR90s and Gallofrees and the NPCs could control them while leaving the bigger ships like ISDs and Mc80bs for player control.

Also, got this idea from Eville yesterday.. since Lucas is already retconning the entire EU to include his prequel stuff (for example Venators and Acclamators in the Imp fleet, by the thousands) why not include a few prequel vehicles here and there?

Lets think about this. After the Clone Wars are over, they develop newer and better technologies/vehicles in use for holding planets and assaulting those who dare defy them. Things like AT-TEs, AT-RTs, SPHA-Ts get left in reserve, stockpile, whatever you want to call it.

But the Rebel Alliance does not have unlimited resources. Nor does the Empire once it breaks up into Warlord segments. This is post-ROTJ and the Rebels would certainly control a lot of ex-Republic planets, all of those probably with at least a moderate size of Clone War-era stuff. Now you certainly wouldn't use these in the front battlelines, they are obsolete right? An AT-TE would get whooped by a Repulsortank..

But on backwater planets, where they might not even have A6 Juggernauts stationed, but only LAVs, it would make perfect sense. Send in a few AT-TEs and LAVs to take on the Imperial LAVs.. after all the Outer Rim planets need liberating too, they're just not that high on the budget list ;).

It'd definitely help explain how the Rebels managed to fight the Empire when the latter had virtually infite resources... by using old pre-existing war material!

Thoughts, comments, yes, no?

Hmm, I see what you're getting at. Thats basically what the Rebs were doing anyway...using out of date ships and equiptment and suplimenting it with their greater mobility and geurilla warfare. I'm for it...we could use the as low end vehicles or indeed all the vehicles on one map (or set thereof) as representaiton for a backwater.

I know I'm repeating my self, but I don't want to have to retype what I wrote on the other topic and because I’m not shore it has been read:

A few points:

The mod could take place post-Endor, which means none of the cliche movie battles will need to sneak in (or I guess they could, but that would be really low priority). There would be mainly two factions, the Rebel Alliance (later the New Republic, basically a different icon and more advanced tech Wink) and the Galactic Empire. As time goes on there could be more factions (Imperial vs Imperial [Warlords], Ssi-ruuvi, etc).

Don't forget BF2 is mainly multiplayer, so they can't be much of a story line, because people take any battle at any time. I think that adding different factions would be really complicated, and not that useful, even though the idea seems great.

Fighters would be completely re-done, the only things resembling the BF2 jets would be the atmospheric fighters like a V-wing/Airspeeder. I am thinking they would have Repulsors (that you can toggle and use to move up/down vertically). So you could set your velocity to 0 and just hover there with the repulsors Wink. Naturally the correct fighters will all have shields Wink. And rechargeable ones, you will be able to change the recharge rate, etc. Think X-Wing vs TIE Fighter. The space combat would hopefully be completely similar to XvT/XWA.

If the Reb's have shields, and the Imp's don't, then I think there should be, or more Imp's fighters in the map, or they should respowne ( I don’t know how to spell that word) faster (but I don't know if that is possible) than the Reb's fighters. And of course there would be the speed and all the rest difference. You could also try to make a difference between space and atmospheric dog fighting. Some ships cold be advantaged in atmos. and other in space... just an idea.

Capital ships would be controlled in several locations, definitely a Bridge for moving the ship wherever the captain sees fit (ableit slowly) and the other locations (2-8?) would be in control of the many turbolaser/ion cannons/lasers of a ship for shooting the other ships of course Wink.

That is really cool, but the problem with that is that if you count 2-3 main ships per team, counting each 1 one the bridge and 6 for canons, it make 3x7=21 and there are only 32 in each team, if the team is full. So that leaves only 11 fighters. Now you can count at least 5 players in the game who will play around doing nothing, which brings you down to 6 fighters. Well, what a dogfight... mostly if the map is big enough for 6 capital ships. Do you see what I mean?

Then:

I also think we should try and improve the flying using the mouse. I think we should make it more instinctive maybe by replacing the mouse by the arrow keys?

Well, that is already possible and has always been.

You all talk about having more vehicles, but I've got to remind you that the mean critic about BF2 is that it is to "axed" (those that make sense in English) on vehicles. Because don't forget that there will never be more than 64 players, and that is when you are lucky. And the commander will never be able to drive all 3 of them. Except if he keeps them in the same place, and then it would be easy to destroy, so dumb. Do you see what I mean? I really don't think we should allow no more than 2-3 equivalents of thanks, 1-2 fighters and 3-4 light fast transport. And not like in SW Battlefront, where you can have 2 AT-ATs largely overpowered. Just to leave it more as a ground unit fight.

Ok, now I have to confess that I am an absolute novice at 3D, designer, modding or programming, and that I am not intending on getting better at it, ok? So I don't know if I will be any help, the only thing I can do, is give ideas. So if you need me say so, but if you don't, I shall not be fussed if you literally tell me: " Nic, we really don't need you." OK?
