Question

Hi Guys,

i´ve got some questions. Maybe you can answer me some of them.

1. What are these yellow/red buttons under the blue ones ? (planet-view)

2. Do you build LNR I, II against the computer ?

I seems to me that he never bombards a planet if he has no change to destroy the Gencore. So why build ?

3. What exactly do you need to destroy the Gencore of your opponent ?

The Gencore has a Shield strength and defense strength.

The Fighters have an Bombardment Value and the Starships have an Bombardment modifier. How do i exactly calculate these factors to get thorugh the shield ?

4. I am just playing the medium difficult level (and medium galaxy) and i win in about 450 - 700 turns. (very slow speed, manage by myself)

Why should I train other Characters to use the force ?

The Time isn´t worth it. (In medium)

With luck i got Luke to jedi Master in 380 turns. Already Captured Vader, Palpatine under blockade and Coruscant ist nearly fallen.

I think it will due a lot of time since i ve got the next Jedi Master, even if i only need 3 Missions.

5. Do you know some tricks with Han Solo-Speed advancement ?

6. Why do i get the message - the diplomacy mission has been foiled by opposing forces ? The diplomacy mission was on my planet which i assaulted a few turns before. Is the computer using Special Forces to foil my missions ????

7. Last Week the computer blockaded Balmorra.

Balmorra had an Gencore II. Next turn the Computer invaded it. OK...Great Fleet and great Firepower. I waited a few turns and send my fleet to regain control of Balmorra.

The Gencore II was still there - so how did he got through it ???

I had to do a Sabotage mission and thought the Computer did the same.

He diddnt. Bug ?

8. How do you set your priorities of science for the caracters who can do all ? 1. Factories - 2. Ships - 3. Troops ?

9. I have read something about minimum Troops on a planet.

Where can i find how many Tropps i need. I do always build 4 sullustans for each planet.

Hope you can help me and you aren´t disturbed with my "rotten" english.

Any other Germans here ?

Guten Tag Heir ElwoodBlues,

(That's about all my German  ). I'll take a crack at answering some of your questions.

1) The blue "buttons" indicated energy resources. Everything you build on the system uses 1 energy resource. The red buttons represent the number of "raw materials" on that system (these are used by mines). The yellow buttons represent mines that are processing your raw materials.

2) It depends. I build LNR's on systems that are important to protect (training facilities, construction yards, depot for troops or fighters, etc). The computer usually sabotages the LNR's before "visiting" so you kind of get a "heads up" that he might come. Also, the computer (usually) never bombards a system with an active LNR. LNR's & Gen Cores are good deterences to bombardment (and with 2 Gen Cores, this prevents assaults).

3) You can use spec forces or characters to destroy Gen Cores. Otherwise if you have a "powerful" fleet, its firepower can over come the shields and get through. As for the shield vs. firepower strengths, I'm not exactly sure but, if you add the total turbolaser power of your fleet (ion cannons also?) and compare this to the shield strength, you should get your answer. There is some "randomness" thrown in by the computer, so don't expect this to work out perfectly. Admirals can "enhance" the bombardment outcomes.

4) I usually DON'T train anybody. Like you said, the game time is too short & I have much better things to do with my characters. Maybe late in the game, when there aren't too many other priorities.

5) Han's speed modifier only works when traveling with characters, NO spec forces (or by himself).

6) I would say yes. Depending who you're playing, the other side tried to abduct or assassinate your diplomat.

7) Remember Hoth in ESB? The Gen Core protects from bombardment if your fleet isn't too big, but you need TWO Gen Cores to protect from assault. The computer assaulted Balmorra instead of bombarding it. You could have also assaulted, but defensive troops get BIG bonuses vs attacks. So if you go the bombardment method, overpower the shields or sabotage them.

8 ) There are 2 characters that can research in each category (troops, facilities & ships), and 1 character that can research all three (but he can only do one at a time). I prefer to have the "extra" guy research facilites first, then switch him later to ships. The reason being, I want Advanced Shipyards ASAP. Then you can build your ships twice as fast.

9) This depends on the systems loyalty. If they are 100% loyal, you need 0 troops. The max is 12 (if putting down an uprising), but usually 6 is the most you'll ever need. I prefer a couple more than the minimum just in case of sabotage (and it does happen). Different troops have different "abilities". Sullustans are great at detecting "trouble makers".

Hope this helped.

As far as question six goes, you might want to try sending characters who's missions are foiled by opposing forces on missions with jedi. Using the force, they will tell you if the character is a traitor or not (Traitors screw you up)

Well thank you - helped me a little bit.

I tried to assault a planet one day with a Gencore II and I dont really remember but i think I couldn´t invade it.

Maybe i need 2 - i will check that.

The Bombardment answers is not satisfying me.

I bombarded a planet once and didnt get through the shield.

Then I realized that i havent any fighters onboard.

So I build Tie bombers, about 6-12 and with them I could destroy the Gencores. I think the Fighters are more effective then the Starships - but I can´t explain. Have to check that too.

Traitors are really disturbing. I ve already read enough about them.

I don´t think i have any (not loosing any more...) but maybe there are some.

And at last a new Question - what does "reserved" mean ?

Facilities, Shipyards... ?

Next time i will try some TC´s - can you reccomend some ?

Read something about better AI - that would be great.

It´s rather boring now since i understood the game and some functions.

Nedd better enemies :-)

Thank 4 now - by the way. do you know ICQ ?

When you let the "computer" auto-manage building your facilities (mines & refineries) and garrisons (troops), it "takes control" of your construction yards and training facilities. If you want to build something other than mines, refineries or troops, then too bad the computer is controlling them. But, when you mark a construction yard or training facility "reserved", that means the computer will NOT use it (when auto managing) and you have direct control of this facility to build whatever you want to build (of what the facility is capable of, of course).

Did you have enough troops? Sometimes the first assault gets repelled, it might take a couple of tries. If the enemy system has TWO Gen Cores, then the "assault" option will be "greyed" out. To prevent an assault on YOUR system, build 2 Gen Cores.

You might not have a "powerful" enough fleet to break through the planetary shields. Bring in more ships to help. You don't HAVE to have fighters or bombers, it's the "total" firepower of your combined ships (capital ships + fighters/bombers) that count.

About bombardment--Each Shield has a shield value. 40 for the Gencore1, 80 for the Gencore2.

Each ship has a bombardment value, ranging from the Carrack Cruiser's 1 to the Death Star's 15. Fighters call it a bombardment value, and ships call it a bombardment modifier, but its the same thing.

Add the total bombardment value/modifier of all ships in orbit, then subtract it from the total shield value of the planet. That determines whether you'll succeed or not. It should be noted that Admirals and Commanders increase the total bombardment value of the fleet, though I'm not sure by how much. I performed the following test and I have confirmed that my information is accurate:

2 ISDs, 2 SSDs and 2 Strike Cruisers (total bombardment value=12, no admiral on board). These powerful ships cannot break a Gencore level 1.

4 Escort carriers (bombardment value of 0) loaded with TIE bombers. Dead shield and then some. Fear the bombardment value--its why Victory SDs own, and why I took bombardment value off of my fighters.

Count Dooku is the strongest Star Wars character as depicted in the movies. All hail Christopher Lee.

...Gotta remember that... but I remember assaulting Corscant witha bombardment with a good sized fleet (Somewhere around fifty dreadnauts and Mon Cals) and not getting anywhere until I realised that I needed an Admiral. After that, all three shields came down in a flash, as well as several regiments of troops. 8)

Just adding onto what AdmiralToguroAni said, bombers are your best bet at taking out shields. Both a squadron of Y-Wings and TIE Bombers have a bombardment rating of 3 - which is more than an ISD (which has rating of 2 btw)!

For the Empire, only one other fighter has a bombardment rating: the TIE Defender with 1. Making the Bomber a necassity.

The Rebel's other fighters all get a rating of 1.

All in all, carry a lot of bombers with you to deal with planetary defenses - they're cheap, are useful in battle and far more cost effective than building up 20 ISDs to take out a Gen Cor 1 (of course, 20 ISDs loaded up with 6 TIE Bomber each is a different story  ).

That goes for the Rebels too - keep some Y-Wings spare somewhere, even after you can build B-Wings. B-Wings are far better at taking out capital ships, though Y-Wings are 3 times more effective at taking out planetary defenses.

Japp, es gibt auch Deutsche hier im Forum. Moin moin. :D

But back to a language everyone does understand:

Admiral Toguro Ani allready wrote about bobardment values. But I am quite sure, the most effective leader for a bombardment is a general. One I was bombarding a planet three times with a Admiral, but I did not damage anything. So I switched him into a General, and badabing badabang he did quite a lot of damage to the planet.

I advice you to download and install the RebEd Programm, even if you don't want to edit anything. But with RedEd you can view quite a lot of ship stats, which are not in the manual, for example speed, bombardment rate, repair speed, etc.

For the point with the Jedis: Yes, I do think too, that Jedis are too weak in normal play. Espeacially when playing the rebels, the game is allmost over, when you begin your training. Playing the Empire things are a little bit different: Since you can only train until Jedi Student, you can have produced some until turn 200 or something like that. These ones are quite more powerfull than normal characters. Sometimes I even send them on missions without a decoy. But however, usually I insert one more character who is a known Jedi and can train Jedis. This way one character can start the training while the other one is looking for more Jedi candidates. In my oppinion this is more fun.

For your point 6, the disturbed diplomacy mission: I had something like this too, once I played the Rebels. In this particular case I found out, that it had nothing to do with an abduction or assassin mission, but whith Darth Vader trying an incite uprising mission. So, perhaps you like to start an espionage mission to your own planet.

Point 9, needed troops: Ingame, when you select a planets garison, there should be an information, how many troops you need minimum at this planet. But beware: You won't get a message when the computer did sabotage one of your troops. This way you can suddenly wake up with a message "Your planet is gone uprising."

All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near. Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him. (Sun Tsu - The Art of War)

I´ve got some New Questions and maybe something more.

This Game ist really "wasting" my time. I should have some other things to do, but I always prefer playing Rebellion instead of cleaning the flat etc.

I just tried do start a multiplayer game in local network. It worked with the opened ports listed in the forum in Thread xyz...

But i would like to play online.

What choices are there ?

MSN Zone ?

This programm for the com port direct play ?

Is there no support form lucas arts any more or do i have to configurate my router ?

Anyway the game is rather easy. I started using RebEd to set the Maintenance and constructions Points (Ships) of my opponent to 66 %.

I also activated the Jedi Training for the Emperor (why the hell not ?)

There are already some Thread in this Forum what changes you made because of the Story. (Jan dodona Ship Design instead of Wedge Antilles , Page Troop Design)

Do you have some more Changes you can describe rather well ?

I´ve read about 17 Star Wars Books and i think there have to be made some Changes with the original Data. A few years ago relly liked the books, but now i think the´re "nearly" a waste of time.

There´s only the Alliance and the Alliance characters winning and it is no special literature. On the other Hand it´s quite well to know who Thrawn is, Palleon, Daala, Garm Bel Iblis...BTW What Characters do you miss ? Mara Jade ? Boba Fett ? Dash Rendar ? Obi Wan Kenobi...

I´ve read something about the Emperor Ghost and clones after destroy of DS 2. What Books are theese ? Black Fleet Crisis ?

Has anyone played the D6 RPG here ?

Enough for now - see ya later.
