Jahled Posted January 26, 2003 Posted January 26, 2003 yeah...really wierd! My Eclipse-class Star Destroyer model likes to dance during tactical battles. I've got sensible ship-values which include a maneuverability of 1, but during the tactical battle it seems to over-excite itself and start rotating. Anyone else had a similar experiance? http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
Tsunami Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 All I can do is offer you a 'no', but I did not test the Eclipse thoroughly and am now using the Sovereign. Sounds like a problem with the AI routine that prevents collisions or something. When does the maneuvering problem occur? It's all hopeless but otherwise not very dramatic. - Helme Haffax Englishman: "What do you think of Modern Civilization?"Mahatma Gandhi: "That would be a good idea."
Jahled Posted January 27, 2003 Author Posted January 27, 2003 ...as far as I can remember sat here at work...when the battle is under way with the Imperial fleet closing in to smash the rebel ships. So your theory about trying to avoid other ships may be right, simply due to the sheer size of the model, it starts performing sudden half turns as the Imperial fleet rounds on the enemy ships...emm... I guess I could use the Sovereign model instead if you reckon it's more stable... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
Tsunami Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 Err, no, I don't know. I did not test that one extensively either. There are some odd half-turns when you assign the majority of guns to the flanks of very lond ships (like the SSD) when they switch targets and cannot turn because of the poximity of other ships. Is most of the firepower in the bow of your Eclipse? Jahled Posted January 28, 2003 Author Posted January 28, 2003 Eeek!.....gosh, the same shit's happening with the Sovereign-Model! Firepower about 600 on forward guns, 400 on the sides; (sorry, never served at sea)! http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
Tsunami Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Definetely weird. Some strange things happen when the battlefield (erm, -cube) is really crowded and suddenly all ships start to freak out because of one command. Happened to me once with 40+ Star Destroyers on screen. One ship tries to get from A to B, but runs the complete other way around (over Z ).How big were the fleets? And were other custom models present? Otherwise it really sounds like a problem with the pathfinding routine and ship dimension. Maybe PM Mask about this one, seems he doesn't look into this thread. the_mask Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 That's forward, port and starbord, ensign Btw, I didn't serve in the military. I took the civilian alternative and ruined my neck there I read this earlier, but I had no clue. I remember this happening a few years earlier on one of my games with ships that had overblown gun-stats like this, so it shouldn't relate to the models. Dunno what you can do about it, except reducing your gun stats a bit and building fleets with a lesser number of the really big ships. But I can imagine that the engine will be in trouble, if it tries to keep up with the space all those models will take in the tac-cube. Maybe the needed space is the one described by the box around the model, that would at least be far more easier to compute than all the little curves and edges of a model. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
