Star Wars CCG

I just wanted to ask if anyone has ever played the Star Wars CCG. It was created by Decipher at 8 years ago, maybe even more. It was such a great game. Just wondering if anyone else was familiar with it.

A CCG is a customizable card game. Basically, there were 2 players: Rebels & Imperials. Each player constructed a 60 card deck, from a library of well over 2000 cards. You had characters, starships, vehicles, and the like. It was real fun. Some of the rarer cards (Luke, Vader, Obi-Wan) were worth up to $65 for the one card. Nowadays, you can buy them on ebay for like $1. It sucks.

While I didn't actually play the game, I did enjoy collecting the cards themselves, especially the Imperial cards. I no longer have most of them, but I have kept my Death Star II series cards. I'm only missing one admiral (Chiraneau (sp?)) and a few of the Admiral's Orders. I was rather luckey to get Lord Vader and the Emperor early on. The Death Star I had to trade for, but the Executor was also found early in my buying spree.

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

I play the game actively :)

There is a lot of skill needed to play, but it is a lot of fun. The company that made it, Decipher, lost the SW Liscence a few years ago to Hasbro, but many of the players got together to Create a Players Committee (PC). They have been releasing online 'virtual' sets for several years now, and hold a $1000.00 World Championship every year at GenCon Indy.

I played, though never active enough for tournaments and such. I just didn't have that kind of dough. The best I did was one round in the Death Star 2 prerelease at Dragoncon.

SWCCG is still one of the most impressive card games. The SWTCG by Wizards is just too simple, something more akin to Pokemon than the Star Wars universe. Then, I've always regarded Decipher's licensed games are quality... Star Trek is done well (though I'm still not sure of all the rules) and the LOTR game is quite awesome. I love the concept, played through their tutorial program. Unfortunately, no $ to actually buy cards (phyiscally or through their online system)

Still wanted to do an online version of SWCCG, because Cardtable and Holotable still don't make it all that easy to play. If anyone's interested, just chime me.

The game was so fun. It was a 2 player game, but me and my two friends played it. So we devised a whole new rule system that allowed a 3-player free-for-all. It was the Rebels VS Imperials VS "Scum". Scum consisted of Jabba the Hutt, bounty hunters, gangsters, smugglers, and all other low lives. It worked out pretty well. I was always the Imperials, and the most glorious day was when I sent the Death Star to Tatooine and blew away Jabba and his friends. It was great!

Yea CCG Workshop is still not worth playing. I'd like to see something solely dedicated to SWCCG.

Playing the game online is just not as fun as playing with the actual cards. I never had the entire collection to choose from. But from the looks of the sites, Im assuming the entire card pool is at your disposal. It sort of takes the fun out of the game.
