I think that maybe it is there to just tie everything together. The end credits seem to have borrowed a bit of a song from every film. I liked it

I've been listening to it for a bit now, and while I do like most of it, there are some aspects I'm not big on. For instance, the "battle theme" (for lack of a better term) seems to be disjointed in it's composition, very much like the experimental type of music that arose in the 20s and 30s (that used mathematical equations to determine notes rather than actually being composed).

I quite like the vocals in this soundtrack, although it almost seems like the Lord of the Rings soundtrack at times. I especially like the Palpatine's Teachings track.

I was personally angry with the Episode II soundtrack. It was nothing but an edited version of Episode I with a few added measures of music. This is much better.

Still, it doesn't have the same feel to it as the Original Trilogy, and in that aspect I don't like it as much.

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

I dont know...for me its hard to top Duel of the Fates. Even though for me Episode 1 was not so great, I do have to say the part where Duel of the Fates comes on and Darth Maul ignites his double bladed lightsaber is just awesome.

Say what you want to about Williams and his music but anyone who can pump that out in just a few weeks (basically) has my respect.

Did you know that Williams compossed the score to ANH in less than seven days? Kind of cool.

One thing I greatly admire about Williams though is he doesn't throw a choir into every single piece just to make it feel dramatic, which is what is happening to every movie soundtrack nowadays.

Also, in episode two, if you listen to the song "Across the Stars" then a lot of it is taken from William's score in "Hook" that starred Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman.

And the Yavin Medal Theme, as you said Trej, is part of the Rebellion theme song. Also, it's good that the rebels have as great a theme as the Empire. But yeah, I think thats why it is there.

I just ordered mine today from Amazon.com at $13 plus change. I have listened to parts of it already at a friends and liked what I heard. I have the Star Wars soundtrack on vinyl and Empire Strikes Back soundtrack on cd. Empire is my favorite. -Grand Moff Conway

Some shitheads at my school today were talking about how much better the new movies are than the old ones... God I hate my generation, they don't even like the OT soundtracks! I want to jump off of a very tall building...

Yeah when I confronted them about it they said "The old ones look so old though"... Not for that day and age. If you look at any movie from 1977 today and compare it with Star Wars then Star Wars kicks the crap out of it. And personally I do think it looks 'old' but almost as though it was intended to. The OT is a pleasure to the eyes.

The Original Star Wars had great music. I am so glad they didnt do rock n roll or anything like that. The classic sort of operatic feel that John Williams gave the series in my opinion is what helps the movies be what they are. I mean, come on Imperial March anyone? That was the song played in Empire Strikes Back when the camera shifts to the Star Destroyers and we see the Executor with Vader onboard. That song for that scene was just awesome. It perfectly gave a sense of feeling like power and dread at the same time.

Yeah just imagine 'Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N' Roses playing there XD It would have been a disaster.
