ADarkJedi44 Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 Im a newbie. Can someone give me advice? (I need a strategy) Sweat saves blood-Erwin Rommel
Paul Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 Play as the Empire, and instead of only using force (troops, TIE's, ect.) use diplomacy. The planets will stay loyal better when they are politely convinced to join your cause. However always leave garrisons on core planets so the rebels can't just land and capture them, I typically use Clone stormtroopers and TIE Interceptors as garrison troops. Download the RebEd program and you can alter characters stats to be more diplomatic minded, also Rebed allows you to load different "cards"-characters , troops, ships, ect. It really is a great program. Any other questions or thoughts, just ask.- Grand Moff Conway
ADarkJedi44 Posted January 17, 2003 Author Posted January 17, 2003 Thanks. Thats ok for the beggining but at about day 1,000 I need a big Fleet. I could use some tips on building a good fleet. Also I get sabatoged alot . Sweat saves blood-Erwin Rommel
Jahled Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 ...emmm...for very basic game advice have a look at FAQ file on the Lucasarts home page... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
UntimelyDemise Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 Thanks. Thats ok for the beggining but at about day 1,000 I need a big Fleet. I could use some tips on building a good fleet. Also I get sabatoged alot . In order to stop the sabotage, garrison your systems with at least 6 regiments of troops...I suggest Stormies for the Imps or Sullustans for the Reb scum. Stormtroopers are good all-around for the cost and Sullustans are the kings of foiling sabotage! As for the fleet, I don't always rely on the biggest. Rebellion does not always reward the fleet with the best ships. I build lots of the cheap ships (and I mean lots) and throw in a technologically superior ship when I can. And make sure your fleet has as many starfighters as possible! Most of all, experiment! You may not like our strategies...everyone likes to play a little different! Try invading systems...if you like diplomacy. Try building in the Rim so you can develop large shipyards in secret! Use your characters for sabotage missions on enemy mines and refineries! In short, have fun! Paul Posted January 18, 2003 Posted January 18, 2003 I don't know what others do as to fleet makeup, but I rely on many normal sized fleets instead of one huge fleet. I have two basic fleet types the first is one super star destroyer, two Victory star destroyers, and an Interdicter filled with Clone stormtroopers or Dark troopers and whatever fighters I'm in the mood for. This can also have a Sovereign Super star destroyer substituted for the normal SSD. The second makeup is 2 Star Destroyers (type I or II) 3 Victory destroyers, and an Interdicter; again filled with troops and fighters. This is just my plans, but as the others say experiment. - Grand Moff Conway
ADarkJedi44 Posted January 19, 2003 Author Posted January 19, 2003 Should I put Ties at every planet or just at important planets? Sweat saves blood-Erwin Rommel
the_mask Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 I mostly put fighters on important planets and on those that get attacked regularly by the AI, also on planets with 11+ shipyards, once discovered the AI always tries to take them from me. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
UntimelyDemise Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Make sure if you do use fighters on a system that you keep over six squadrons. If you have less than six fighters on a system, the Rebels can usually destroy them all with a minimal fleet. I usually don't waste time with fighters on a system except at Coruscant and any system with lots of shipyards (like mask). Jahled Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 ...and when you use your fighters against the rebels make sure you exploit the manuevers in the tactical mode. If you split up your squadrons with hammer and anvil manuevers the AI will only send it's own fighters after one of your attack goups, leaving the others to lay-in to their capaital ships... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
ADarkJedi44 Posted January 20, 2003 Author Posted January 20, 2003 I'm starting a Rebel game. Anything I should know. Sweat saves blood-Erwin Rommel
Jahled Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Yes, don't try to take on the Imperial military machine straight away. Be crafty. The Empire will start the game with several systems under military control. Get uprisings going on those systems and watch popular support for the Alliance grow, the more so if you can actually liberate the system. Get those planetary shields up and have strong garrisons to prevent the Empire being able to saboutage those shields. Also exploit the fact Alliance fighters have hyperdrives. Build a broad spread of both Y- and X-wing fighters; you don't have to loose any until the Empire has access to gravity-wells. Use infiltrators. Use guerillas- if you send them to systems before their garrisoned, there's a good chance they can stay underground sowing the seeds of unrest. Don't worry about not getting immediate results, it's a long term thing. Exlpoit the Outer Rim, but for god's sake don't colonize systems to near the Alliance HQ, if the Empire finds one there's a very high chance it will investigate the systems around it. Recruit using Han & Luke, every successful recruitment mission increases their Leadership. When your strong enough to blocade systems do so and use your characters to take out the garrisons (and work on uprisings if need be- it increasess their leadership attributes), you get to keep planetary defenses. Remember, Alliance characters tend to be a bit more flexable than their Imperial counterparts, exploit this. That's all I can think of right now, gentlemen; anything you'ld like to add? http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
UntimelyDemise Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Very well said, Jahled! The only thing I would add is use Han and Chewie as much as possible. The two of them are unstoppable on sabotage and espionage missions, and with the Falcon, they get it done twice as quick! Just keep in mind that Rebel characters have a lot more "events" happen to them (Han and bounty hunters, Luke disappears for a while, if Han gets captured all main characters go to rescue him, etc. etc. etc.). Watch the Han and bounty hunters events! When the Empire locates Solo, they also get free espionage on the system he's at. Never have Solo at the Alliance HQ!!!!! Jahled Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Just out of curiosity, Mr Demise, which side do you prefer playing? http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
UntimelyDemise Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 You don't have to call me "Mister", I'm not that old! I prefer playing the Glorious Galactic Empire. Crushing the pitiful, insignificant Rebellion gives me great joy! Actually, I sometimes play the Rebel scum, but I prefer to build Star Destroyers and reduce the ragtag Rebel fleet to smoldering embers floating lifelessly in the cold vastness of space! Gosh...that was a bit over the top, wasn't it? Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.--Napoleon Bonaparte I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.--Robert McCloskey, State Department spokesman Support the USA!

Heck! So your just one of the lads eh? Ok, everybody! I'll recredit all the credit-card donations we collected on GM Conway's behalf; as it stands we raised $6074 and three Mongolian sheep. http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
Paul Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Sorry to disappoint you, but although I'm not an older gent I have been playing Rebellion since it came out. So you can still talk to me about your horror stories if you so choose.- GM Conway
